Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Been checking the forecast with apprehension for the past week, but as things stand, looks like it could be an ideal weekend weather wise. Temperatures not particularly high, but light winds and not much rain, with a fair amount of sunshine. Of course that can all change by the weekend, but looking good so far. I've been going over my packing and I think a battery pack will be essential-I'm going to need to use the navigation on my Garmin a lot of the time, which is going to eat the battery-no way it will make it over about 12 hours unless I charge it up. Uncertain also as to whether or not to stuff a spare tyre in my extra large saddle bag-maybe some large patches would be just as good. I'll definitely have spares stashed in Clara anyway.

Being able to leave any extra stuff you bring in Clara is very useful. You can then adapt what you bring with you to suit each day. You could get away with a jacket stuffed into a pocket and little else.

The weather was good last year too and it got better over the three days. I was using the route as a PBP training ride so I brought a small Ortlieb pannier with me as I knew I'd be using one on PBP. I did have an external battery pack for the Garmin 500 and it lived in a small top tube bag with the Haribo sweets!

Bring the spare tyre. When you're cold and tired at 3 am in the middle of nowhere and your second spare tube has punctured because you couldn't find the thorn, fit the spare tyre and your third spare tube and you can hunt the thorn back at base...

Well, that's this year over with. By all accounts so far it was a success with the international participants and newcomers being especially impressed - good news for future editions I think.

Just sorting out details for next year but it should run in summer 2017 as a warmer-up for LEL. Well done to koobcam who rode very strong ( and had a few flaky moments ;) )

Did it this year and loads of guys did it on race bikes even an aero bike just have miles in the legs and a comfortable saddle and you will be grand. It's superbly organised by the lads they couldn't do enough for you. And the feeling on completion is absolutely brilliant. Some buzz

Oh, that's on the other side tied on to the pannier.

Not actually riding the Knot this year. That pic is in the course of a 680km spin down the Loire and up the Nantes-Brest canal just completed. 6 days of glorious pedalling...

Old thread but warrants a refresh with this year's event due to start on Friday morning at 6.00am

Signed up for this after a number of years completing 200s but deciding this year to ramp up the distances to see where it will bring me. Completed the SR series (Kings Mountain - Midlands - Brown Stuff - Eoin McLove) so hope to have the strength there to see me through a three day event.

Conditions look mixed with temperatures remaining mid teens with frequent showers but imagine it to be the atrittional fatigue that will be the biggest enemy over the course of the weekend.

    Anyone else here signed up?

  • Site Banned Posts: 20,686 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

OleRodrigo probably. Has told me in person how good it is and that I should give it a lash. I've signed up and pulled out twice. This is arguably the first year I'd prbably have the legs for it but I'm thankfully otherwise engaged

Me, I'm in for my second one. I need this for an ACP Randonnuer 10,000 medal. I'm looking forward to the Clare section.

Best of luck to everyone doing the CK this weekend, hopefully you're not hampered too much by the weather.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭NamelessPhil

Halfway through the full thing. 510km done. Weather was atrocious yesterday and we had a block headwind to today's first control. Through the Burren and heading south to the Silver mines. #ShutUpLegs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Fair play to all doing this, hope the weather picks up a bit for the remainder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭NamelessPhil

Well the wind is back and the rain is chasing me to Enniscorthy. Slieve Blooms climbed, just the nasty little Kilkenny hills between me and Wexford. 250km left in 21 hours. Be grand...

Jaysus but you picked some hairy weather for it. Safe home one and all.

The wind picked up a fair bit for a while this evening so hopefully it was a tail wind for those doing this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭NamelessPhil

    It wasn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭NamelessPhil

37 starters, 26 finishers. It was hard but not impossible. I finished at 05:12 this morning and I wasn't last.

You don't get to choose the route or the weather, you just have to deal with both as they happen.
