Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Probably the most important albeit cliched lesson I've learned, in both my professional and personal life, is this: Trust. Your. Gut. Always.

Don't give anyone a second chance to break your trust.

Ignore the begrudgers unless it's to further antagonise them.

Leave the past in the past, you can't change it.

I'm probably going to get myslef into trouble here but let's go regardless.

The shop I used to work at used to have a lane around back where we all parked our cars... some days the
neighbor's terrier would come yapping behind me as I walked up lane to car and I just ignored it ....anyway one day the bolloxs bite me on ankle.

At least I learned my lesson anyway , it didnt do it again after i drove my size 9.5 up its hole with my big work boots.

And before the pet forum give out at me I could have had the mut put down.

When the petrol light on a small car flashes it means get petrol NOW, not get petrol after you just pop up the main road through a busy town and get that other thing you came in to buy first.... :(

Did disastrous paint job on my model kit. Paint strokes clearly visible. Revell paint btw

    Bought Revell "Paint Remover"

Applied it but its effect is meh.

Lesson: Do proper paint job next time

Falling asleep after a night out with contacts in is not a good idea.

Love hurts & if you are stupid enough to go back again it hurts more.

    Love isn't always enough.

Always check the detail when booking your Ryanair flight, loads of times I skipped the travel insurance part as they used to expertly and conveniently hide it. Not any more. :D:)

Don't ever get yourself into unnecessary debt. E.G. A 5K car will do just fine instead of a new one.

Cut toxic people out of your life or minimize contact.

Easier said than done, debt is generally required for some of the most critical of human needs

Much easier for a single person not to fall into the mortgage trap along other things.

But instead of buying a 30K car just get a 5K car etc.

Most people tend not to stay single, and tend to want kids, debt can get messy for them, I am glad I'm not in that position either

    Credit cards are evil.

There is an exchange in every relationship. Just as you want something, so too do other people.

Few people are actually thinking about you, or your behavior for longer than 5 seconds. Don't give up on something because of what you assume other people think.

Most people don't want complete honesty from you.

Politics is a game that you don't want to be involved in.

People are often very stupid. Don't assume they're more intelligent until they prove it to be so. Also intelligence in one area doesn't mean intelligence in every area.

Other people's lives are probably more ****ed than yours.

Love means something different to everyone. And good sex is generally not love. And lot's of sex gets boring after a while. :D

life is what you make of it. Reacting to life is incredibly inefficient. Taking control of your future leads to happiness.

Oh. Ireland is not the whole world. You can be much happier outside it. (took me three decades to realise this little nugget)

Never settle for being second best. Your gut will tell you and if it does, get out of that relationship fast. The right person will never make you doubt what you mean to them.

That there are some truly honest people of integrity and decency out there, but they are few and far between. The vast majority are honest and decent when it suits them, but when push comes to shove, they'd sell their mother into slavery if there was something substantial in it for them. Everyone should be told this when they're 18 imo.

That other people desperately want to see you doing worse than them, behaving worse than them, and having less than them. And they will try to tear you down.

That people who say that someone else "will do anything for you if you need help" will abuse your kindness.

That anyone who isn't an idiot is potentially malicious, and cannot be trusted.

That anyone who isn't malicious is potentially an idiot, and cannot be trusted.

That anyone who hasn't been in your shoes is blaming you for everything wrong in your life.

That you should never admit to being poor in a social situation, or being a woman on the internet.

So everyone but you is an idiot and all your problems are other people's fault?

So everyone but you is an idiot and all your problems are other people's fault?

Not at all. But pretty much nobody can be trusted in the long term, and you can't know what their intentions are. None of this is blaming all of anyone's problems on anyone else.

None of my problems and none of my successes are anyone else's business, and they can all be used against me.

That last bit there is the lesson, everyone but me is not me and can't be trusted with my problems, regardless of whose fault they are. And others knowing about my problems will often lead to judgement and people actively trying to s#it on me.
