    Hi

Just wondering has anyone here heard anything about whether Stem Cells can help for a back injury?

I was considering possibly getting one in Medica in Tallaght.

Lots of good feedback online I have seen.

But would it help with discs in your back. My MRI shown some disc dessication & very minor bulging.

Is that the company offering PRP procedures, under the banner of stem cells. Seems slightly dodgy if so.

I think they culture the stem cells from fat cells.

*Bone marrow cells is what is mostly used I think.

It's currently an unregulated sh1t show in Ireland.

You need to do a lot of research before you hand over your money. Lots of snake oil being sold.

*I did a lot of research and spoke to a lot of clinics 9 months ago but my memory isn't what is was!

As pointed out, it is unregulated in Ireland, but promising great things.
I had a consultation myself last year in Cork but decide against it after talking to the consultant and doing some further research..

Minor bulging disc normally settle down with the right treatment, also disc dissection can be reversed using the right protocol.

I sceptical by nature but the research is not very promising..
    Here is just one study..

Sorry you are correct. It was from PRP, and although very similar they are some what different.. so maybe the Stem cell has a better outcome.

How long have you had the pain and what other treatment did you have

    Yes.
I tried some other things dry needling, massage but no improvement.

Stretching is awful flares up after it.

Im way off doing exercise still it is very easy for it to aggravate.
I have a problem with my hip which is putting pressure on my back.

Went from exercising every day since I was 5 to now I can only walk.

It is a hip impingement but I am awaiting result of scan to see what is the exact issue with my hip.
Less mobile hips means more strain on the lower back.

My posture is fine I hurt is acutely doing a box jump.

Back MRI didnt show much but with how slow it is healing I thinking it may be an annular tear which takes 18-24 months to heal often doesnt show up on an MRI.

My Doctor suggested that may be the cause also.

Had a client that went to Panama last year with his mum who was facing into joint fusions due to serious arthritis, 3days there (not cheap) and a year on shes off crutches but as she in her 70s there are other medical issues shes facing but overall he said it greatly improved the quality of her life.
