Considering the price for them from the US boxed, the fact that they are on the US PSN for cheaper and have been on sale, then yes.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment has been ESRB rated so fingers crossed for a release!

Finally, news about FFXHD. My PS2 laser died about 3 hours into my replaythrough so this is good news for me.

    Video here

They apparently redid the models but didn't use the more 'expressive' ones (anyone who has played X on PS2 will have noticed how some cutscenes have facial motion capture whereas in others the characters look like zombies). They wanted something that still looked like the original.

For example, Yuna now has fingers rather than a claw.

I'm interested in getting a 3ds,which would the better game package to get the monster hunter one or the fire emblem one?which is the better game like?

Depends really. If you like SRPGs then there's few that can match Fire Emblem. Monster Hunter on the other hand is really only good as a online diablo clone.

If you have taste you'll go for fire emblem :P

The first question is do you want a 3DS XL? I find them too big for a portable handheld. Make sure you get a feel of one before you make take the plunge.

Trying to be objective about Fire Emblem as otherwise it would just be a gushing recommendation- MH has more replay value. FE is generally the type of game you finish and don't return to after you discover how insanely difficult Hard mode is. But otherwise FE all the way!

So NIS announced a trio of games coming to America. Disgaea D2 (autumn), The Guided Fate Paradox (autumn) and Time and Eternity (Toki no Towa in Japan) (summer). Link to Destructoid

Never really liked Disgaea as the combat system (move, then resolve attacks) didnt gel with me, prefer the Fire Emblem/Shining Force "one move and attack, next char" system.

Review from above of Toki no Towa isnt very positive, very dull and bad characters.

Guided Fate Paradox looks intresting, meant to be a rogue-like dungeon crawler, and got a Azure Dreams vibe off it with the companion following you. Plus....tanks...

Guided Fate Paradox supposedly plays like ZHP which I have no experience of.

Disgaea Dimensions wasn't so good so not holding much fate in the sequel.

Heard Time and Eternity is gorgeous but very dull.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,897 ✭✭✭megaten

ZHP is pretty great. It's kinda like a rouguelike except every time you die how many levels you got go towards improving your level 1 base stats. There is no disagea dimensions 1.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,833 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Ah right I'm thinking of the disgaea visual novel thing. Must pick upzhpbefore it disappears forever.

heard a rumour Persona 2 Eternal Punishment is hitting the US PSN this tuesday. It's the PS1 version not the PSP version but it's better than nothing. I heard there may be come names that differ between then two that might be confusing.

Have you played any Tales games before? It's decent enough but nothing special. The aliasing is quite bad though.

Nope it'll be my first. I am actually trying to decide between this and Ocarina of Time. The thing that is swaying me towards Tales is I have played and finished OOT years ago so not sure if I can justify paying full price for it even with updated graphics.

I've only really beaten Symphonia but it seems to sum up the Tales series. Stories full of cliches but great battle systems.

What's considered to be the best of the Tales series?

I've heard either Symphonia or Vesperia

Abyss and Tales of Graces F according to the fanbase and the upcoming Xillia is meant to be great.

I played it recently and thought it was good. The battles are fun and its got some great characters. Symphonia is still my favourite Tales game but Abyss isn't too far behind.

I thought Graces F was meant to be a disappointment (according to reviews anyway).

I'm wary of the whole series as it doesn't look dark enough from what I've seen. Looks very shojo / girly style.

I'm going by japanese reviews and the fanbases reaction to the game. Most western reviewers just don't know what they are talking about when it comes to JRPGs anymore. A far as I'm aware Graces F has what is regarded as the best battle system in the series. Not sure about the story but it's never been a strong point or focus of the series.

Persona2 EP just came out on psn. I remember playing the first one years ago. I'm trying to get my head around the battle system. I'm used to the usual jrpg battle system but personas throw me off. Am I just suppose to spam persona abilities because physical attacks seem to be redundant? Which persona should I equip to who, are there affinities for each character? I'm almost getting a handle on contact system so that's good.

I really like the graphics. Since retro is such a rage then more games should move on from 8bit to something like this.

Just had a fanboy fit when I discovered that Shigesato Itoi (creator of Mother/Earthbound) had a cameo in the big-screen adaption of Norwegian Wood. Makes sense, given the history of Itoi/Murakami, but I still bumped when I say his name on the credits.

Yes, no one cares, and it only took me over a year to realize, but it's either this or broadcast it on the streets.

Or, well, shut the f**k up.

I see there's another Atelier game coming to PS3, Atelier Ayesha

Are the Atelier games any use? That's the 4th in about 3 years, they must be selling but I've never seen a glowing review of them.

My friend said that the Arland trilogy is great other than Rorona which is average. He's the same guy that recommended Persona 3 to me. I own them, not played them, story of my life.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked has got a EU release date finally.

    http://blog.ghostlight.uk.com/post/shin-megami-tensei-devil-survivor-overclocked-gets-release-date

Quite excited about this as I never played it on DS. Anyone played it?

I've only played a bit of Atelier Rorona which is apparently the weakest of the modern ones but I've had fun with it. The one after it totori has been rated for Vita in Australia which apparently includes all the dlc so you might want to wait for that one.

Some good deals on playasia this week. SMT Nocturne, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Kingdom Hearts and Dark Souls all less than 15 euros with free shopping.

Is there any way to get those NTSC copies to play on a PAL PS2? Some kind of quick and easy soft-mod that doesn't involve ripping discs?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,833 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

You can buy a swap disk but I'd recommend the hard disk PS2 mod since it means you save on laser wear and get better load times.

FreeMCBoot might be another good software method and you can do the HD mod off it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

Yeah, I have freemcboot. Just don't like having my PS2 collection a bunch of iso on a hard drive:(. Thanks though.

So, apparently Square Enix will be making Drakengard 3. I'm quite surprised, after Cavia went, I thought we'd be more likely to get a new Suikoden game from Konami than another Drakengard game.

Yeah it's a weird one alright. I hope it's more like Nier which was great. Both Drakengards despite their weirdness and great writing were terrible to play.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,833 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Access games will be making Drakengard 3. They made Deadly Premonition. It has gone from meh to potentially the best game ever made.

Final Fantasy X HD will come with X-2 on PS3

Final Fantasy X HD on the PlayStation will include a second game as part of the package—its direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2. The news comes via a report in Jump magazine. Both games will be based on their International Edition releases.

On the PlayStation Vita, both titles will have to be purchased separately. The two games are slated for release sometime this year. A price has not been announced either for the PS3 or Vita versions yet.

Not sure which to go for now. I was very excited about getting FFX on the Vita but knowing me I'll go for the value for money route and get both on the PS3.

Good deal. Don't know if I'll get it though, already spent way too many hours playing Blitz-ball...

I'd never played a Tales game before and started Graces F recently. I wasn't sure about it but for anyone on the fence I'd say definitely go for it. The battle system is excellent and the pacing is tight. The crafting (dualising) system seems excellent so far too. Despite being an enhanced Wii port in HD it also looks beautiful. The music is nice and seems to fit well too.

I like the characters so far too, in the sense that they draw you into the story. I'm not far enough in to have formed an opinion on the story. It's no Final Fantasy VII but it is engaging.

A minor negative is the intro music when you start the game up. It is the cheesiest thing I've ever heard, woeful to the point that I'm jamming start to get to the title screen so. I was worried it'd be a bit childish and it is a bit at the start but not enough to become annoying. It's chidish nature is appropriate given the characters age at that time (child arc).

I actually swapped Ni No Kuni for it and am enjoying it far more that that. For me that game is overrated (apart from the art and music). The battle and crafting systems are far better and I prefer the story so far too but I may be in the minority on that one.

I'm still waiting for fire emblem to come back in stock for playasia to send my order with ni no kuni so could be a month before I get it but the impressions I've read from people I'd trust is that outside the art it's pretty bland.

In bizarre localisation news of the month Carnage Heart EXA was released on US PSN this week. I didn't even know this was coming out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

X-2 in HD is nice and all, but it's a fairly forgettable game that I wouldn't care much about returning to. I wish they'd give the Zodiac re-release of XII a HD port over. The enhancements in that made the game a lot more interesting and they actually give you a reason to hunt the stupidly rare weapons.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,833 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I must get back to FFX-2. It might have pissed all over FFX in terms of what it did to the characters but it was fun. What put me off it was I learnt halfway through the game that there was a huge amount of stuff I had missed and couldn't return to. I was a bit OCD about seeing everything a game has to offer and getting all the secrets and endings at the time and it put me off the game. Now that I've matured an awful lot I'd like to go back and just enjoy it for what it is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

You can't 100% X-2 without a guide and you can't 100% it except on a second playthrough. One of the things I hated about it. It's tedious **** of the highest order.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,833 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I'm just planning on beating it and watching the second ending on youtube, although I heard it's a total cop out and ruins how brave the ending of the first game was.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,225 ✭✭✭snausages

It's diabolical. Way worse when they brought Sephiroth back in Advent Children. I don't know if you know this either but (minor)
they also tried to establish a link between the worlds of VII and X.

Yup. It's a shame really. X-2 could have been a truly great game if it wasn't tied to a pre existing universe.

Yeah, I won't go into it now, you'll form your own opinions but I'd agree with that. Sparkles at first but rapidly lost its shine for me. I was playing FF IX at the time too and found myself always wanting to play that instead.

This. You shouldn't have to play a game twice to be exposed to all the content. I wasn't gone on in anyway. X was the last one I enjoyed. Completely lost interest in Final Fantasy after XIII.

Anyone buy Atelier Totori for Vita yet, I always meant to pick up the PS3 version but HMV was the only place to stock it and it never went down in price, is it worth the price tag of €39.99 on Vita.
