Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ice Baths

    And no, I don't mean for after a work out for muscle ache (like the other dozen or so threads here). I mean for health in general. You get a huge increase in cold shock proteins and an increase in mitochondria from cold exposure. It also helps stop the enzymes that break down collagen. This below video states that if you want to get the physiological benefit of ice baths that you have to stay in for longer than 3 minutes... and that's at 1-2 degrees! And ideally repeat this a few times.

    Apparently it's actually not ideal if you do an ice bath immediately after your workout, as explained here from 15:40-16:50:

    if you goal is recovery then cold immersion is ok, if goal is muscle gain then maybe avoid

    I remember watching the thing on Eddie Izzard run the 43 marathons in 52 days. He never looked in more discomfort than the ice baths and I remember thinking "Fúck that noise".
