Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Karl Cullen (Gobsmacked Records)

In 2005, Karl and fellow Dj, Diarmaid O Meara began running techno nights in a local pub in Waterford’s inner city. Proving successful with locals for their jackin’ sound, within a year they found themselves supporting Dj's such as Marco Bailey and Fergie while running highly successful resident nights in some of South East Ireland's biggest nightclubs.

In 2006 they decided to set up their own label, "Gobsmacked Records", as a platform to launch themselves and their productions on the techno scene. One year later and 2007 saw Karl supporting the world-renowned Space Djz, Dj Rush, Dj Bold, Ignition Technican, Robert Armani and Marco Nastic to mention a few. 2007 was also the year of Mr. Cullen’s first release, “Siren E.P”, with the mighty Sourcecode on remix duties. This received critical acclaim by the media and was given some impressive reviews -

" come on in and join the party. A Chicago booty shaker with all the on-beat claps you could ever wish for. Include the World War II siren and you’re lifting the crowd into absolute overdrive. This one’s huge. " - M8 Magazine.

In 2008 Karl began releasing tracks with Ben Long (Space Djz) and produced a stomping remix for the Space Djz release “Force Majeure E.P”. After working hard in the studio he now has a volley of releases for 2009 including his monstrous track “Mind Control”, on the famous Berlin-based Record label - Killaz/Error Records. The label boasts artists such as Sven Wittekind, Torsten Kanzler, Dj Rush, Felix Krocher, Arkus P, Marco Remus, the list goes on and on.

With forthcoming collaborations already lined up with Robert Armani, Ben Long, Torsten Kanzler and Dj Kamikaze and the release of Karl’s debut album due out later in the year, there is no doubt that 2009 is going to be a big year for this up and coming Irish techno talent.

    Christy O’Brien
    www.bebo.com/ChristyOB

In the last couple of years, Christy has played to Australia, Berlin, Denmark and all over Ireland. The Apollo head-honcho has supported names such as Torsten Kanzler, Felix Kroecher, Alex Calver, Seb Fontaine, Stel, Style of Eye and Sven Wittekind in recent times while also receiving much airplay on Beat FM, Feile FM, 2FM and CueLK Internet Radio.

    Paul Farrell

No stranger to Dublin’s techno scene, Farrell has been DJ’ing and organising events in inner city clubs such as McGruder’s, Wax, Radio City and Karma in the past. His vast love for various techno styles has led to him to being draughted in by Dublin’s legendary Acii Disco and Rubberband and in turn he has been pitched with big names such as Dusty Kid, Sian and Sourcecode of late. Apollo will be welcoming back Farrell after doing such a good job for us at our very first event. Expect some pretty tough minimal and techy fillers from one of Dublin’s finest.

    Bubble Sweetman
    www.bebo.com/bubsweetman

One of the upcoming local talents within Waterford city, Bubble is one of our newest residents to join the crew. After delivering a perfect warm up of house and minimal on his debut for Apollo we are delighted to bring Bubble back for another promising event.

This is was a recording of his set last time round....http://www.sendspace.com/file/8z0pht

    Steve Power
    www.bebo.com/Steve_Power

After holding down a residency in Waterford’s Oxygen nightclub for quiet sometime Steve has recently hopped on the techno bandwagon. Being a Hip Hop DJ originally, his mixing techniques are amazing to watch. Expect impressive 3-deck mixing and flawless scratching combined with some tech house and minimal grooves along with some of his own productions.

For a taster, here's a recent mix of his!!

Waterford will host the launch of a new national food-grower’s network called GIY Ireland on Saturday,September 12th 2009 as part of the Waterford Harvest Festival.

As the interest in home-produced food reaches fever pitch, a new organisation called GIY Ireland is aiming to inspire people to get growing and give them the knowledge they need to do so successfully. On September 12th 2009 Waterford Institute of Technology will be the venue for the launch of this unique organisation which aims to establish food growers groups in every town and county in Ireland.

GIY Ireland is planning to establish at least one network in every county in the next 12 months by finding ‘local champions’ to set up a network in their area. The organisation will provide these local champions with the necessary help and support they need to get a successful network up and running. The event in WIT will officially launch the organisation and is open to anyone interested in finding out more about GIY Ireland. The organisers are particularly keen to invite people who are interested in establishing a network in their area. They are also interested in hearing from existing food growers groups that might be interested in becoming part of GIY Ireland.

Speakers at the conference include Minister for Food and Horticulture Trevor Sargent TD, Ballymaloe Cookery School founder Darina Allen, Clodagh McKenna, GIY Ireland’s Michael Kelly and Will Sutherland from the John Seymour School of Self-sufficiency. There will also be a series of afternoon workshops covering a range of topics including, health & nutrition, baking, permaculture, seed-saving, and allotments & community gardens. Tickets cost €35 and include a seasonal dinner of mouth-watering local produce. There are 250 tickets only for the launch event so book early to avoid dissappointment.

The conference is part of Waterford’s Harvest Festival, a weekend of autumnal events that are sure to appeal to foodies everywhere. Events include a harvest feast in the city on Saturday evening and a massive farmer’s market in the city centre on Sunday 13th.

To find out more please email info@giyireland.com

Waterford Young Fine Gael, in conjunction with W.I.T Young Fine Gael, is delighted to host a public information meeting on The Lisbon Treaty with Seán Kelly, Fine Gael MEP for the South constituency.

    Date: Tuesday, September 22nd 2009
Venue: Auditorium in the WIT Cork Road campus
Title: "Get Waterford Working – Why We Need Lisbon"

Seán Kelly is a former President of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He was the first Kerry man to hold that prestigious office being elected at the first attempt by a record margin at the GAA Congress in 2002. In July 2006 he took up the position of Executive Chairman of the Irish Institute of Sport, a body that was set up in Ireland to support elite athletes and players, and served as Executive President until he announced his resignation in July 2008. He is generally regarded as one of the most successful, innovative and media-friendly president’s in the Association's history as is evidenced by the string of awards he has received including Person of the Year 2005, Community Entrepreneur of the Year 2006, Business Person of the month (April 2005) and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Dublin Institute of Technology in February 2007. He has won the second seat as a Fine Gael candidate at the 2009 European Parliament election for the South constituency.

Guest speakers include Young Fine Gael President, Barry Walsh, a Cork man first elected president of Young Fine Gael in November 2007 in Maynooth, having previously served as Vice-President. Following a busy first term as president, which involved the first Lisbon Treaty Referendum, he was re-elected for a second term in February 2009, at the YFG National Conference in Athlone. Barry graduated from Law at the University of Limerick and is currently plying the legal trade in Dublin. Along with the Vice-President, Barry represents YFG on the Executive Council of Fine Gael.

The talk – entitled "Get Waterford Working – Why We Need Lisbon" – will help to explain what the Lisbon Treaty is about and clarify common misconceptions about what the treaty does. The talk will conclude with a Questions & Answers session. This is a free event and doors open at 6.30pm. For further information contact Waterford YFG at 086-1592188.

Sorry, when you say stage psychic - what does that mean? IS the show being advertised as an entertainment show (IE: The audience is being made aware that it's purely for entertainment) - or is this being sold as a "real" psychic?

"Well known singer/actor Jamie Murphy is off to Haiti in April to take part in respected charity organisation Haven's "Build It Week". In the wake of the recent earthquake disaster, Haven have been on the scene in Haiti carrying out essential construction work to build latrines in the refugee camps to stop the spread of deadly diseases. This basic but hugely important work will improve health and give some dignity back to the Haitians who have lost so much.

Jamie has organised a fund raising night at Electric Avenue on Saturday 13th March with all proceeds going to the "Build It Week" campaign. It features the great and good of the Waterford music scene with All Mod Cons and The Butterfly Band playing live in the main room with DJ Tony Hennessy, Tasty DJs Owie, Johnny and Lloyd Kenny playing house music in the Loft and the Untz Sound System taking over the Mezz. So that's 3 rooms of quality entertainment for €10 with all proceeds going to a very worthy cause."

Just wanted to promote a benefit night which will take place in the Showboat on Fri 30th April for a friend of mine who suffered serious injuries in a snowboarding accident in Vancouver recently, leaving him paralysed from the chest down.

    Details are here www.helpkeith.com

Fair play to you Nathan, you are a good friend. He will have a tough journey ahead of him but having family and friends help out with be a big plus to him.
I dont know you or Keith but I go skiing myself every year and I am conscious of those freak accidents that can happen. I must buy myself a helmet for next year.

best of luck with the benefit night, I have something else on that night but I'll make a donation throw paypal for your buddy.

    Rock, Metal & Techno!

A bit late advertising this, merely one day before it's on but better late than never!
The premise here is simple, Rock, then Metal and finishing the night with some dirty Techno!

All local bands to Waterford playing and should be a blast, Friday night in Electric Avenue, from 10:30pm until whatever time seems fit...maybe Sunday!

WIT Young Fine Gael are proud to be hosting an evening with the Collins 22 Society on April 19th, 2010 at 7pm in the Dunmore Room (F02) on the main Waterford IT Campus on the Cork Road.

Bill Martin from the Collins 22 Society and some Waterford Fine Gael Representatives will give a short talk on the Fine Gael legend that is the Irish revolutionary leader, Minister for Finance and MP for Cork South in the First Dáil of 1919, Michael Collins.

This will be followed by a documentary, entitled "Hang Out Your Brightest Colours", on his life and death and is regarded as the most accurate documentary made of Collins.

Light refreshments will be made available after the night where you will get a chance to meet Bill Martin of the Collins 22 Society and some of our local representatives.
