Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Let me explain again. I mentioned I didn’t know the area and google maps took me on the route which was the lesser milleage option from the distribution centre. I will be coming from a completely different direction to the school every day , roads are not that good this way either but won’t damage my car like the route from the distribution centre. I would have been safer ( in hindsight) returning towards home from the distribution centre and headed from that direction to the school to set up. Longer but safer.

Is anyone else yet to recieve their advance payment? I finished yesterday and still haven't got it. I've heard others have.

What's the logic behind sending 'Advice Lists' back on a Wednesday? I've another exam amárach and then I'm finished so I'm wondering could I wait and just send them all back tomorrow?

I presume it's to do with the online marking - updating the system if candidate changes level/doesn't turn up.

I often wonder why/how the supervision is paid so promptly with written examiners often waiting until November or so.

The sooner you get your finance form in the sooner you get paid. It’s 30 working days from when they receive that. They’ve been spot on with both my superintendent and examiner pay .

    Just a quick question!

I got placed in a school last minute today that is 98km away according to google maps but this takes me on ridiculous back roads! If I choose going by motorway it’s 1 minute longer and the distance is 104km. I am just wondering will I get overnight pay if I write down the motorway distance?

I do not want to start paying for a hotel if I will not be reimbursed for it!

    Thanks

......had a similar issue myself calculating my mileage.....route planners send me the most direct route over mountains, single track boreens & “restricted roads”......I scoured the handbooks and found the phrase that a “safe & practicable” route should be taken.....I intend to attach evidence of such on my claim sheet

Still no advance payment. Finished since Tuesday! I called and they said its due to PAYE modernisation whatever that means. I've a feeling I won't be seeing it for a while.

Did you have to pay your attendant out of your own resources then?

I sent everything back yes, it is a problem on their end they told me.

    Yes!

    Yes!

That's a very, very big assumption for the SEC to make. I wonder what they'd do if the superintendent hadn't the money...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,812 ✭✭✭✭evolving_doors

USed you get the advance payment taxed before. I seem to remember they give you the bulk amount and then you can pay the attendant, then they deduct the tax in the final payslip. Was that right?

Why doesn't the attendant just get it directly off the SEC?

I just got my final payment information in the post this week, but I’ve noticed a mistake on it. It states that a €600 advance was deducted, however the advance that I was actually paid on 11th June was only €312. I’ve emailed them about it.

Did anyone come across anything similar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

You were probably taxed on the 600

Can I ask what date you sent in your finance form? I would imagine they have to deduct the 600 because that's what they paid you regardless of tax deduction.

Hi Sandyxxx. My friend is having an issue with this. They are sending her on back roads from her school to Athlone as the shortest route. It is not a safe travel route. Could you tell me what handbook you found the safe& practicable route in. Thanks.

It was under the claiming your payment section in either the general instructions or handout that you send back in the stationary box to the SEC!

No but if you google the phrase “shortest practicable” you will see it appear in circulars for public sector,HSE etc!

It might originate in this circular from 1982!!

Do other posters really get paid in 30 working days? I'm looking at 50+ at the mo and could really do with it. Emailed and pay modernisation was mentioned...........

It’s normally spot on 30 days but this year appears to be different. Even my examiner advance was delayed.

Paid today. Finished 14th of June and. 24 days . Delighted as I normally go over 30 days and have to ring them.

I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Maybe more. I sent the payment form away the day we finished.

No why? I often leave things like this for a few weeks. If I don’t have it I can’t spend it and I’ve a few payments coming up so it works out for me. I had genuinely forgot about it though as I have been busy.

It's just that anyone I know who does or has ever done the superintending does it because they need the money and would prefer to have it sooner rather than later.

But seriously though, send it in. I'm sure they can't refuse to pay you but I definitely read something about them wanting you to have the form in within 30days

I had an SEC claim form from June 2018 this year for prep work, called them and was told to submit it,no problem!

They do so they can batch process a subject and not have outstanding claims for months on end. I'm sure they like to sign off on their end of year accounts promptly. But if you did the work you are entitled to be paid for it no matter when you send in the claim form. A few years back the music teacher I work for forgot to send in her claim form for the practicals (she doesn't place any urgency on these things). She ended up sending it in about 6 weeks before she did the practicals the following year .:pac:

Lots of people do it because they need the money, some don't though, for some it's a lump sum to put into savings, pay for a holiday etc so it doesn't really matter if it's received straight away or two months later.

I’m actually embarrassed to say I used to fill this prep claim form in years ago and somewhere along the line completely forgot it even existed. Can’t believe I haven’t been claiming for it!

It’s not something my principal has ever mentioned either. Definitely sending it off when we go back. Thanks!

Yea there’s so something there alright about sending it in promptly - they probably hate people like me!

Takes all sorts - I do it to keep myself busy for another month once school has finished up and it’s nice to get a lump sum for a back to school treat!

Probably woodwork or metalwork where pieces have to be cut out in advance of practical exam

Oh ok, I didnt know that existed. Genuine question: Would there be much correction involved in wood/metal over the course of a school year does anyone know?

There would be the exam pieces that are checked by a visiting examiner going to the school (this happens in a few other subjects too) and then the exam papers would be marked in the usual way along with other subjects.

Any non-SEC 'correcting' during the school year would be done by the local teacher.
