I think it's worth paying for a month every six months or so. You can blitz whatever new shows they release & catch up on new movies added.

There isn't a single movie on Disney Plus that I haven't seen before but it was nice to watch all the Star Wars movies in 4K HDR. I'm now ready to watch the last star wars film in the cinema.

I've cancelled my subscription after two months

Sorry I meant DusneyLife and not +

Kids liked it but we have seen everything. Also the 2 year old was only one watching it, stick on Sofia and it plays one episode and then starts, doesn’t start the next one. Most annoying thing ever so that one of the major reasons to dump

    Also no StarWars

A few people I know who were able to sign up all dropped it when Mandalorian and said they will go back and binge series when they go on and then cancel. Where as they stay on Netflix or Prime the whole time.

Netflix I understand because there's enough good stuff there as well as enough new stuff to make it a permanent keep

Amazon Prime though I haven't seen much on it at all worth seeing never mind a keeper

Have Prime. Nothing on it either

I strongly suggest not signing for a year unless you have young kids. Monthly works out much cheaper if you skip a few months throughout the year.

To be fair Disney plus is a whole different beast to the Disney Life.

And yes I’ll be getting it having unsubscribed from Disney Life some 6-8 months ago

€6.99 pm, €69.99 pa is the price (£5.99/£59.99 in Sterling-land).

Cheaper in euro right now with the current exchange rate.

In the US version you can have 7 profiles on the account with 4 screens allowed to be used at the same time

No. 4 screens at the same time. Remember lots of people will be using phones or tablets while on the go.

You do know that you can use Netflix independently of sky if you subscribe to them that way right? Depending on packages you can save by taking Netflix from sky and then just use it on other devices.
I'm assuming this Disney deal will be structured along the same lines, a slight saving to take it in a bundle from sky.

You need the 4 screen pack for HDR on Netflix

I'm cancelling sky Q. Costing 107 per month / 1284 per year for everything except sports. I can get Netflix, Prime Video. Disney plus, Hulu, & HBO all for less than half what I pay Sky.. All HD at no extra cost. All Multi room at no extra cost & most have 4K HDR. Free to air satellite can give me all the BBCs, ITVs, Irish channels & many more free of charge. It's definitely time to cut the cord with Sky

As well as being cheaper than Sky, you can pick and mix those subs on a month to month basis depending on what you want to watch, easy way to save a few more bob every month

That's exactly what I plan. There are lots more aps too. Showtime, AMC, Britbox, Cinemax, TCM, Starz, Crackle, TNT, Tubi, ABC, Fox NOW, Apple TV, & HBO max is launching shortly. Get 2 or 3 apps per month on top of Netflix & Prime video. Chop & change the 2 or 3 apps every month or two.. There is a bigger & better world out there at a fraction the price of sky.

Disney+ in Ireland & the UK is likely not to get The Simpsons on it because of it's current deals with RTÉ, Sky & Channel 4.

To maybe explain things a bit further, the version of that tweet used by the Disney+ social media team in other markets includes a big donut to represent The Simpsons. The UK one doesn’t, which is taken to mean the Simpsons won’t be on Disney+ in the UK (and Ireland) too.

A pity if that’s the case - as I mentioned previously the Simpsons isn’t available to stream in the UK and Ireland anywhere. It’s a near repeat of the situation that saw the series take much longer than was usually the case (seven years I think) for it to get to terrestrial TV after it’s Sky airing.

Yeah you are right there idcg. There are some other issues too which relate to content being provided elsewhere whilst not offered on Disney+.

The Spectacular Spiderman which belongs to Marvel Studios is shown on a linear kids channel called Pop Max in the UK. There is a listing for the show on Pop Max's official website. I am not sure what is to happen with that show. Although I would assume here that The Spectacular Spiderman would not be shown on Disney+ until the company that owns Pop Max either puts a halt to their transmission deal or let their current contract run out for the show in it's entirety with prior agreement from Disney in future.

Sky have some TV channels like Fox UK, various channels from National Geographic & Disney and BT Sport ESPN available on it's EPG.

Some of Fox's shows also have a linear free to air broadcast deal with ITV in the UK. Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show & Bob Burgers are currently shown on ITV2. This free to air deal with ITV was done when Rupert Murdoch was the owner of both Sky & Fox a few years before he had officially sold Sky over to Comcast since last year along with most of his Fox assets to Disney. The previous free to air deal for these animated shows from Fox was made with BBC Two & BBC Three before BBC Three became an online service on BBC iPlayer & Youtube for other countries worldwide including here in Ireland. A separate Pay TV deal for those animated shows is currently in place with Fox UK. That separate deal for the shows still remains unchanged to the present day.

TV shows like Marvel's Agent's of Shield is also shown on RTÉ2 in Ireland & on Channel 4 in the UK. A lot of the Marvel Studios movies have been shown on RTÉ2; more recently they had shown Doctor Strange & Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.2 on Saturday nights for the past fortnight. The Sky Cinema Channels, Sky Store, Sky Go & ITV have access to those movies in the UK.

At a guess; I would say that this would mean that Disney+ would be very much a watered down service in Ireland & the UK when compared to what is offered in the U.S. & in other countries that are to get it as a subscription.

Disappointed that Simpsons wont be on it, wont be a permanent sub for me so from the start at least

Was looking forward to handily being able to stream and cast any eps i want

Will still be worth it for the new shows and different movies, but maybe sub for 2 or 3 months a year based on current outlook

Might watch the 90s Spiderman on this when it comes out over here. Good show if I remember.

Are you sure about that? I figured they'd released them weekly in the States because they hadn't finished post-production on them all by the time the service launched. This stinks of them not wanting people to sign up and cancel after just one month. Guess I'll wait till they've all aired here and then try it for a month.....

There is tons of good content but very little new material. I expect they will drag out the new content as much as possible. I subscribed for 2 months & cancelled in January. I'll wait a few months & pay for another month or two. There are so many services now. I have apple tv plus for a month right now

To be honest, I'd only be subscribing for new content. If there's a Disney/Fox/Marvel/Pixar movie I love, then chances are I already own it on Blu-ray.
Maybe they'll offer some interesting older stuff that hasn't been available elsewhere already and I'll bite, but something tells me that's unlikely.

While it might be nice to see the original Star Wars movies in 4k HDR, I don't think I could watch anything other than the despecialised versions of it at this stage, especially considering how they continue to alter the movies here and there, whenever it suits them.

Same for me. They have great content. 4k HDR but like you. I've seen them in the cinema & already own 4k versions of them. Anyone with kids will get great value for 60 or 70 per year

Shame about The Simpsons. It was always going to be something that would be a very good reason to sub. Go back and watch any episode when you want.
    Knocks points off Disney+ now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,773 ✭✭✭SureYWouldntYa

I wonder is it a permanent thing, or is it just a hangover from deals agreed years ago before Disney Plus was in the pipes, and will be on it once the deals expire

Sort of like how a lot of MCU movies aren't on it either due to different streaming deals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,887 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

That won't just be an issue for Ireland and the UK i would imagine Disney should be OK with a most of the own stuff and knowing when deals end around the world however they only took over Fox late last year and Fox would have had long term deals with TV companies around the world that Disney have no control over when those deals end.

The 59.99 gives you four users, I thought I’d read you can have more than that. Does anyone here know how many they are planning to let users have in Ireland or is that four it?

Every Disney Plus account can stream to four devices simultaneously and can create seven user profiles for different members of the household. Each account can pick an avatar of a Disney, Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars characters, with more than 200 avatars available

Above is Disney USA so no difference for here. The only confirmed difference seems to be to no Simpsons in Ireland

That has not even been confirmed explicitly.
