For the week that’s in it, the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon landing and I only found this out yesterday. A man who qualifies for an Irish passport one of three who took part in one of, if not the greatest feat in human history.

    https://www.irishcentral.com/news/irish-emigrant-astronaut-michael-collins

Why is this not really known in Ireland. Why was he not honored here. He has closer links to Ireland than JFK and JFK was way more celebrated here.

The man is still alive. Michael D should be hosting him this week if they were any good.

    Michael Collins?

    Shocked.

    Amazing, not.

All the astronauts have grandparents/great grandparents from countries other than the USA.....

Talking of Irish ancestry, Obama was classed as "Irish" because he's 1/16th Irish, all the other ancestry should count, whether it be Scottish, Welsh, German or whatever.

Interesting the way some families are talented or connected. A lot of his family have their own wiki entry.

What’s hilarious is his grandfather was from Dunmanway and on their Wikipedia page they don’t even mention him in the ‘People’ section. :D

He gets no mention at all.

All the President's steps are small due to him being Hobbit sized :)

Good road frontage on the moon

But he didnt walk on the moon. He stayed behind in the spaceship. He's like the bus driver that drives the team that subsequently wins the All Ireland. When the match is on he stays in the bus having his sandwiches

If Michael D presents him with a Passport we might get another Moon rock in return.
The Apollo 11 rock presented to Ireland was accidentally discarded in a landfill known as the Dunsink Landfill in October 1977 following a fire that consumed the Meridian room library at the Dublin Dunsink Observatory where the rock was displayed. Cleo Luff, a student from the University of Phoenix, obtained this information after her investigation into the moon rock's location for a class she had with Professor Joseph Gutheinz.[9][10] The Apollo 17 Goodwill Rock remains with the National Museum of Ireland.

Obama wasn’t really classified as Irish.

Keeping people named Michael Collins alive. The only rebel they ever had and they shot him.

On the Collins' in space theme; Eileen Collins daughter of Irish parents who moved to the US was the first woman in NASA to pilot and then command a space shuttle mission.

Jesus lads and lasses, that's too damn many langers in space. We need to catch up or they'll bloody ruin the universe for the rest of us. :D

And there's this lass Cady Coleman..

I love her hair in zero G*. A hair halo :D

IIRC Armstrong's forbears had Ulster roots?

*ok pedants, I know it's not zero G, but c'mon...

You can't talk about how it was faked anymore without first declaring the earth is flat.

We should build a petrol station in his honour.

Ah, so that would be Armstrong, of (somewhat obviously) British ancestry then.

The Brits love to claim Irish celebrities as their own. Let’s not reciprocate the false claim.

Or a roundabout. Which the space cadets in the red county could orbit at will, much to their amusement no doubt.

Neil Armstrong. Astronaut. Not a cheat who wears spandex for a living and shaves his legs. Opposite ends of the ‘real man’ spectrum.
