Apollo 11 Astronaut is the grandson of a farmer from Cork

For the week that’s in it, the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon landing and I only found this out yesterday. A man who qualifies for an Irish passport one of three who took part in one of, if not the greatest feat in human history.

Why is this not really known in Ireland.Why was he not honored here. He has closer links to Ireland than JFK and JFK was way more celebrated here.

The man is still alive. Michael D should be hosting him this week if they were any good.

All the astronauts have grandparents/great grandparents from countries other than the USA.....

Talking of Irish ancestry, Obama was classed as "Irish" because he's 1/16th Irish, all the other ancestry should count, whether it be Scottish, Welsh, German or whatever.

What’s hilarious is his grandfather was from Dunmanway and on their Wikipedia page they don’t even mention him in the ‘People’ section.

He gets no mention at all.

But he didnt walk on the moon. He stayed behind in the spaceship. He's like the bus driver that drives the team that subsequently wins the All Ireland. When the match is on he stays in the bus having his sandwiches

The Apollo 11 rock presented to Ireland was accidentally discarded in a landfill known as the Dunsink Landfill in October 1977 following a fire that consumed the Meridian room library at the Dublin Dunsink Observatory where the rock was displayed. Cleo Luff, a student from the University of Phoenix, obtained this information after her investigation into the moon rock's location for a class she had with Professor Joseph Gutheinz.[9][10] The Apollo 17 Goodwill Rock remains with the National Museum of Ireland.
