Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone had problems creating a scorecard on the Golf Ireland app?

I preregistered to play at a club I am a member in (though not my home club) last weekend, but when finished I tried to create the scorecard to enter my score. I could select the club, the marker and then selected proceed to create the scorecard, but the app just wouldn’t create. I was sitting about 30 yds from the 18th green at the time so I was in the vicinity, as requested by the app.

Any advice appreciated. My handicap secretary didn’t know why.

    valc

I thought you had to create the scorecard before you play the round?

I think you can enter the scores after, but need to create before you play?

    Hi,

I played 2 rounds at the weekend, Saturdays score was up that evening as a counting score but then as soon as Sundays went up Saturdays went to non-counting. Would anyone know why this would be?

These are my first 2 cards under the new system, and i only had 2 previous scores up from last year as I only joined at the end of the summer.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭valc

But how would the App know what my tee time is??

Pre registering in the pro shop just involved me informing that I was playing a casual round which was to count for handicap purposes. I didn’t have to sign in. The tee time was pre booked.
Does the pro shop have to do something on their side ?

So how's many cards are showing? It sounds like four, so only lowest card will count and minus a 1 stroke adjustment. https://www.randa.org/Rules-of-Handicapping/2019/Rules/The-Rules-of-Handicapping/Rule-5

Thanks for that! I knew about the best 8 from 20 so assumed it would take all my scores until I got above 8 and then start taking the best from there.

You can't submit a score on the app until at least two hours after you have 'signed in' on the app. So you should sign in on the app, play your round and then submit your score. The other thing you might have been missing is a marker. I think that's the next step after choosing the tees you're playing from. It's kind of confusing on the app that they refer to the tees as the markers, but you do have to have somebody to verify your score and they do it via the app on their phone.

Thank you! And to Spacecoyote. Tried it out this evening and created the card before I teed off. And it worked.

Has anybody’s club an option for people without a smart phone? My dad is in his 70’s and is looking forward to playing some counting rounds after a recent hip operation. He doesn’t have a smart phone.

If I’m with him we can sort it all through my phone but if he is not with me he is a bit snookered. I guess if we weren’t still living with Covid that the clubs’ computer would be back in place for members and people would be able to register their rounds that way.

They are plenty of people in the same boat as my dad so I am interested to hear if clubs have done anything to facilitate people without smart phones.

we can use computer in club shop.

i assume with restrictions easing they'll be back online across the board

There's no other option other than a smartphone or a computer. And if both are ruled out, then that's it.

Clubs could provide an iPad (or Android equivalent) in 'kiosk' mode (basically set up for just one app to run on it) and that could be used with antiseptic screen wipes as a precaution against covid transmission. It's a reasonably cheap option. Especially with an Android tablet.

We've been told that we need to submit scorecards for all general play rounds to the committee.

They're already recorded on Golf Ireland App, does a handicap secretary/committee not have access to the data on golf ireland app?

The weird thing is, that you can submit a score through BRS for a competition and not have to produce a card, but for general play, you have to submit a physical scorecard.

    Seems wrong.

Same in my club. Required to submit physical scorecard for casual rounds if playing for handicap and the secondary step of uploading scores to the club app (Intelligent Golf) which I believe is then synced to Golf Ireland as my scores appear there without me inputting.

The card will probably be done away with over time but does not bother me - it's not a great deal of extra effort to pop it in the letter box post round.

Yeah. Always good to have a second record in case of input errors or problems with the app. And there have been problems with the app.

This is a great opportunity post covid, to get rid of the fecking scorecard submittal.

Handicap secretaries up and down the country have been trekking into golf clubs for years, sorting out cards, checking for errors etc.

Now with this app, we are very close to being able to fully go digital, if they would just add one more step. Before submittal, you take a photo of the signed card with your phone and then submit. Would be a game changer, you would have your proof, no need for the physical card. You could have live scoreboards etc. for competitions aswell.

You only need to go a few posts up to see why this is still a long way away. And it's not just lads in their 70s who can't or won't use the apps on smartphones.

My thoughts are that both can coexist. But if you don't bring in the digital scoring now after Covid, when will they bring it in?

It's funny though, how all those lads who can't or won't use smartphones, seem to have no problem booking the 7.30 line every saturday morning on their phones/computers, no reason they can't quickly make the move towards the app.

I cant think of a single reason why we would ever say it's ok to physically have put a scorecard in a box in 2021.

It's down to the R&A and USPGA to change the rules to allow it. But look at the pros filling in scorecards with their score plastered over the course and on TV and you'll probably see what's holding up any change.

yeah they must have made some update here. You have to enter the players second name first now and it will work . Previously worked by entering first name first and then second name, but doesn't work that way anymore

No problem here. Just sent one. Make sure to wait after you enter the first few characters of the surname. It sometimes takes a while to search.

    Found it.
    On website
Manage Account, there is a privacy tick box to hide score play dates from other members

there is a setting called "Hide score play dates from other members" when you are logged into the Golf Ireland Website. Its defaulted to off for everyone unless you change it

Has anyone issues trying to search for open competitions on golf Ireland site? Not very user friendly, I’m getting some pop up geocoder failed due to access denied and the filters don’t seem to be working too good.

I usually don't use the location option as that can be pointless if you're using a PC with an IP based location. And it's not really that useful anyway. You know how far you are from any course in the country. :)

A lot of clubs are slow to post their open comps on it at the moment I've noticed. Probably because they weren't allowed until recently. Filters are funny alright. If you select a county, the drop down stays open even though the county is selected.

Golf Ireland Open Fixtures website is an absolute disaster. It's like they had a 6th class somewhere doing it as an end of year project.

Yeah, open comps are a complete disaster. Some clubs don't post the fixtures on Golf Ireland either. I've been regularly checking various clubs own website for them, which is a pain in the hole

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭valc

Does anyone know if you can 'unfriend' a friend on Golf Ireland App? Accidentally hit Accept from someone who sent me a friend request, and I really don't want that person to have access to my scores.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,840 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

On iPhone you just swipe left on their name and the option comes up. Not sure about android

edit: just go into their page and the option is at the top right

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,726 ✭✭✭dan_ep82

They can still see your scores friend or not as long as they know your name just so you know.

They may be able to see the course and date as a friend with the option turned on but I'm not 100% on that

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭valc

I don't think they can see my scores without knowing my GUI number. Thought one needed this??? I'm not a member at their club.

If they're from the same club they can find you by name

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭valc

Yes, and my understanding if from a different club, they will need my GUI number.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭OEP

Sorry, didn't read the last sentence of your post that said they're not a member

    that is true

but how did they add you in the first place?

the could only have done that if they had your GUI number......

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭valc

I am an away member at their club. They can't see details of my scores, only my actual HI. I guess that's how they could send me a friend request.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,069 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

If you are an away member, you are a member. They just need you pr name and can look you up.

they can see a breakdown of your score and not just you HI.

what they won’t see is the details of the rounds if you have your privacy settings turned off.

I know, because I’m a member of 2 clubs. I can look up anyone in either club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,887 ✭✭✭DuckSlice

You are right to some extent i think...

If you are a member of 2 clubs, but I'm only a member of one, and that is your away club, then I wont be able to see your scores just your handicap index. I'm open to correction on this but I think this is how it has worked for me when I look up people.

How long after a round do adjustments for course conditions on the day get made on Golf Ireland?

Competition over the weekend off the back tees I shot a nett 72 (nett +1) but I’m thinking that it’s likely on the Sunday that genuinely could’ve been the best score by a fair distance. My understanding is the day’s scoring comes into play on Golf Ireland for determining a cut etc unless it’s the Weekend Comps’ scoring as a whole?

Overnight. The PCC is always there the morning after a round regardless of where I've played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,050 ✭✭✭boccy23

Does anyone know the basis for applying the PCC?

I was just looking and there was PCC of 1 applied last weekend with no extraordinary playing conditions in play.

When I look back, there have been PCCs applied over the course of the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,840 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Looking at my history of rounds, the PCC has never NOT been 0.

I find that hard to believe given the conditions on Sunday were atrocious. I think the top 5 scores in the competition were recorded on the Saturday whereas our day was a washout.

The golf Ireland app is good, but it needs a lot more work.

The open fixtures feature is only available on Google not the app.

Even at that it's difficult to navigate.

Is it supposed to replace howdidido?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,590 ✭✭✭blue note

What's the app actually useful for? Really the only use for it is being able to record your scores. After that all it is is your current handicap and a record of your scores.

They really should look to develop it to do much more. Make it compatible with the GPS software apps so that you can upload your score directly from it. Have a live leader board function on it. Using it as a booking platform makes sense too. And definitely advertising opens through it. Both clubs and players would like that.

Also, have it as a communication platform to members.

Basically, merge hdid, golf Ireland and make it compatible with smart golf software apps.
