    The Route selection is nearing completion
    They have a favourite Route now selected and this phase will be closed for submissions on March 4th

    Is scheme 3 here a northern bypass of Letterkenny on the N56?

    I've added the other 2, and the N14/N15 - A5 link which would assumingly go ahead if the A5 goes ahead as planned in the capital investment plan.

    No, it's the port road and the existing low standard DC as far as I know

    It'll be a while before you see work starting on N5 Westport-Turlough :(
    Got a response from RegDesign:
    To be honest there is not any progress. The preferred route was adopted and it was decided to concentrate resources on the delivery of the improvement to the N26 at Cloongullane Bridge. You can see a separate project page for Cloongullane.
    In relation to the rest of the project work on this has been suspended. I will arrange to have the project page updated to confirm this.

    Nope, the new Grangecastle Business Park roads announced for this year are marked in red on that map. As in, they haven't started yet.

    Minister Ross announces €324 million for regional and local roads

    the 2017 investment programme also allows for a number of Capital Plan projects to progress, including:
    · Bettystown to Laytown Link Road in County Meath and the
    · Dingle Relief Road (Phase 4) in County Kerry
    · Sallins by-Pass/Osberstown Interchange
    · Shannon Crossing in Killaloe, County Clare
    · Athy Southern Distributor Road in County Kildare
    · Portlaoise Southern Relief Road
    · Eastern Garavogue Bridge in Sligo
    · Grange Castle Business Park Roads in County Dublin

    The main features of the investment programme include:
    · €165m for road pavement strengthening works;
    · €41m for surface dressing;
    · €69.5m for maintenance and strengthening works for which Local Authorities have discretion in the selection of roads;
    · €26.6m for Specific and Strategic Regional and Local Roads Projects;
    · €9m for bridge rehabilitation works;
    · €6.1m for Safety Improvement Works;
    · €7m of miscellaneous grants including, training, speed limit funding, salt purchase, road surveys and a programme to tackle the spread of Japanese Knotweed.”

    “Funding of over €1.3m will be allocated to local authorities to continue with the implementation of 30km/h speed limits in housing estates across Ireland.

    Works starting on the Portlaoise Southern Relief Road morning with JCBs being delivered to the site.

    This will be a huge improvement - even though it's the third southern bypass of Portlaoise's main street in effect: 1- JFL Avenue by what was the famous old blue bridge; 2- The M7 of course!

    A proper N80 one would be nice but I'm sure that's probably decades away :(

    Agree, but could be worse - at least the roundabouts are of the proper traditional design - AFAIK, the ones for the Laytown/Bettystown relief road will be the crap specification as per the National Cycle Manual - the pavement width is also to be just 6.0m - not even SC Type 3 standard - just an estate road really. Meath is usually much better than this, but alas, the county is now under the direct influence of the NTA.

    The new design is safer for all road users and pedestrians and cyclists. The "proper traditional design" was widely criticised for allowing high vehicle speeds in urban environments.

    The Laytown road will connect two built up areas and should be built like an estate road.

    So what about buses - as there is likely to be considerable urban growth around Bettystown in the near future, there will be more buses on that road (R150). Such roads should be at least 7.0m like the Braemore Road (R112) near Dundrum, Dublin - that road was recently remodelled as a multi-modal corridor. Really, we have been stereotyped enough for 'The little roads of Ireland...'. As a pedestrian, 7.0m is nothing to cross!

    Minor scheme under way south of Ballinagh, Co. Cavan since last June, due to be completed in October 2018
