Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is still frost right down on the beach all day in Galway...so I wouldn't be surprised if we get snow...though its usually just rain/sleet we get from this kind of a situation...this time might be different there is no wind either so cold still in place...only problem now is though its looks very light on radar...theres always something wrong when it gets cold enough for snow

I'm assuming there's a bit more to come in, but this is sad chasing a few miserable flakes. I'll be lamppost checking though at 3 am probably.

Genuine question and I know I'll probably get eaten alive but here goes. How can you tell it's going to be light snow as opposed to heavy snow fall?

    Thanks Ken

Important note made above about the local restrictions though and I understand that.
Was really nice up there though and a proper tonic for this very stressful time we are all going through. Honestly the only living things we came close to were a fox and a few sheep. Glad I could share some snowy pics :)

Good for the body and mind

Hoping for a dusting by morn here near Trim. Temp down to -2 now...the actual snow will prob fall when I’m still sleeping!

That's just the leading edge of the band. Should be heavier stuff following behind that's not visible on radar yet. Here's The Arpege precip chart for 7pm.

Looking at satellite the band does not impress!

A slight upgrade on the ECM anyway for the early hours

The cold front is dissipating all the while, so there's not much forcing to cause rising air to form precipitation.

You need to add VAT and duty onto that since the 31st of December.

We shall wait and see what transpires. Nice frost out there again.

The 15Z ICON Flash has the front dissipating a bit more quickly than earlier runs. Very little of it left as it gets into southern Leinster tomorrow morning. Again, a dusting is what most people can expect.

-3° in Kildare now with light fog developing. Perfect conditions for accumulating snow

I’ve a feeling tonight will be like whoever has the precipitation won’t have the ideal temperatures and whoever has the ideal temperatures won’t have the precipitation as usual

A slight upgrade in precipitable moisture alright. The ICON Flash going the other way.

    It's a nowcast...

I can tell that this is going to go the way of the event a few years ago. Lots of virga and a short spell of snow, then rain.

    Officially Rain here , bummer.
    Temperture not low enough.

Rain seems to be heading towards Galway on the radar but it doesn't feel like it will rain or snow

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

It clouded over too early for us. I am expecting wet snow. But no sticking.

Will be watching the stations in Donegal to see if much evaporative cooling takes place.

It is 1.2c here, it got down to 0.9c before rising and stabilising. Based on similar past events, I am expecting light rain before wet snow if evaporative cooling takes hold.

Three stations to watch to see if evaporative cooling takes place.

There's not much scope for evaporative cooling tonight. It's all or nothing.

Magilligan is also reading 2.1 with a dewpoint of 0.2. Cloud 7-okta at 10,000 ft, 2-okta at 3600 ft.

-4c out now and it definitely feels like the coldest evening so far this winter.
    Looking forward to later.

If they start slowly rising, it’s game over for me and most people below 100 metres.

In general the ECM showing more snow accumulations than the other models I would reckon especially in Northern counties and N Midlands.

ICON a bit lighter and further W, most of the models looking like the ECM and WRF with best chance of some lying snow but as has been mentioned very light for many with merely a dusting with some areas maybe getting 2 to 3cm more so on higher elevation like hills

Temps look quite low in the Eastern half of the country tomorrow morning so any snow that fell should last some time. Plenty of slipping and sliding tomorrow on the roads and footpaths.
