Sean o brien played 50mins of London Irish opening game, where he captained, but hadn't featured since and is not in the 23 for tomorrow night's game.

Anyone hear if its injury related?
Or are they just minding him?

The last game they rotated 6 players out of their pack, but not sure about this one. Seen one RugbyPass say he was 'unavailable' so would assume that's possibly some knock he's recovering from but not sure.

blast from the past as phil dollman gets a start for exeter on tuesday night v bristol....

has only played 200 minutes in the last 20 months.

he will only have to deal with semi radradra running at him all night

    Haha

    Some man Phil dollman!!

Powers through off first phase scrum play for the opening try

Brian Byrne starting for Bristol. Good move for him, he's gotten decent game time I think.

Lost it at the end. Think they took off their SH before HT which was a bit harsh.

Nearly every score in that match seemed to include missed tackles and defenders falling over.
Yet rugby Twitter seems to be creaming themselves over this fantastic match?

yeah i saw tweets to the same effect and was baffled. dull enough game marred by a lot of sloppy errors. weird.

Bath look a far better side since the break due to pandemic. Forwards look to have a harder edge.

Were we expecting Sale to be absolutely annihilating Bristol!?

Yeah, that's basically Bristol 2nds apart from Earl.... And sale having lost two in a row since the restart, it was very much a must win game for them.

Interestingly, the game was very much in the balance still at that point.

That was the first choice Saracens line up too. I presume this was their practice run for Leinster and they'll rest them next week.

    These games are garbage.

there’s been about 5 half decent games in the premiership since it came back. so many scratch sides and throwing of matches.

    Farrell banned until October 5th

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

5 match ban - misses the remainder of Saracens season.
6 match ban - sees him miss the Barbarians game
7 match ban - sees him miss the Italy game

So 5 matches punishes him without hurting England. Possibly tin foil hat stuff, but there you go. A full reduction despite having a previous ban for a dangerous hit doesn't make complete sense to me.

5 match ban is more then I expected. I was convinced it would be 6 weeks cut to 3 weeks.

The mitigation is an absolute joke, they just decided to ignore his previous ban and WTF they have his charities involved in the hearing I do not know, but it's about as long as anyone could have expected imo.

oh no, no tin foil hat stuff, you’re dead on. i think if there was any way to get him to play against Leinster they would but i guess there’s no way they could spin the England captain swinging his arm into the side of the head of a young player because he was frustrated as deserving of a 1 week ban.

Watching some of last night's action - Big gap between teams in top half of table and those in bottom half. Leicester, once a great side, are looking particularly out of their depth while London Irish despite some decent signings are struggling too. Exeter, Sale, Wasps, Bristol and Bath all looking impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

The congestion in fixtures seems to have created a Top14 type situation where the rotation of lineups and haphazard scorelines suggests that teams are targeting certain games and throwing others.

This was inevitable when you have the revolving door Leicester had in the off-season / lockdown.

The schedule since the restart has been so full that it's made a mockery of the competition. Teams actively throwing games as a method of being pragmatic.
The only team that really tried to make their squad 50/50 of starters and reserves were saints who have lost 5 from 6 since the restart, and are currently 13 - 3 down to Leicester.

Today wasps hosted Bristol. Wasps firsts versus bears seconds. Wasps had the TBP after 17 minutes!

All they've been doing since is basically keeping bears at arms length... It's currently 59 - 28

    These are two playoff competitors.....

Leicester are a tremendously dumb side. Lavanini was binned for repeated infringements on their own try line. Northampton kicked to the line and 30 seconds later they collapse the lineout drive, concede a penalty try and get another yellow. Now they have to play 10 minutes with 13 men.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,189 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

And in the 8 minutes from the yellows to half time Leicester manage to outscore Northampton 3-0 despite being down to 13 men. Northampton look dreadful.

Hopefully Byrne gets an extension on his Bristol contract. Think it's just a loan currently.

I see Andy Goode supported the ban.

Basically a case of Goode, the ban and the rugby.

Weather has been ****ing awful for this final between Wasps and Exeter.

Wasps three points down with six to go, get a penalty and go down the line. Throw the lineout straight to Exeter. Ugh.

Brainless stuff. Young hooker threw a dodgy one only a few minutes ago and they still decide to throw to the back in those conditions.

Complete implosion from Wasps. Practically handed the chance to win it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 380 ✭✭conor678

Strange game. The wasps pack deserve major credit for standing up to Exeter for so long in the game. The Exeter replacement front row made a major difference on top of the wasps brain fart at 70 mins.

I felt wasps could've won that being a bit smarter. Exeter are a good side but I would be confident sarries, even with the depleted post salary gate squad, and Leinster beat them the majority of the time

This is something that never ceases to amaze/baffle me when a team absolutely have to win a lineout either defending their own line or attacking their opponents line. The hooker throws it long and they inevitably lose possession. The longer the ball travels in the air the more chance there is of the opposition snaffling it. Why not throw it to the front or the middle of the lineout?

Intersting developments. Wonder how that will effect England if the sarries players haven't played any rugby in between international matches? Possibly see some dodgey loan deals for the big players in the pipeline.

I wonder if the dust has settled in all this have they been adequately 'punished?' They've had thier squad reduced, such as the Skeltons and other big names from the bench that made a difference in the big games however they've retained the core of those amazing players and will get the loanees back in a season. I wouldn't get against them storming back to the top after all this

Small salary cap at other clubs now so who can take their players?

Fair point, possible French load but then that will go against the English players stay in England approach. Can't see it being good for England if the farrels, itojes and vuinnapolas don't get much club game time this year

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,564 ✭✭✭RugbyLover123

They should’ve had their titles stripped imo. I mean that seemed like the logical solution and punishment considering they were won unfairly.

Saracens will be back almost as strong as ever in less then 2 years.
