Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

McDonalds is probably my favourite Christmas Ad so far. Gives the true meaning of Christmas about giving and thinking about other people when Santa so Kind to get Carrots for the Reindeers when no one at the houses had them while delivering presents for the children.

I like the Dunnes Ad I preferred the ones in previous years but its a nice ad all the same shows off the Christmas Spirit. I've always liked the Guinness ad gives a real sense of winter and Christmas.

John Lewis ad isn't too Christmassy which I think its good not as good as other years I loved the one with the penguin gave a true meaning and sense what Christmas is about. I like that it goes back to Eltons childhood of getting a piano for Christmas its sentimental and nostalgic really but amazed at the cost of producing the ad to have him in it.

The maker of the ad, and actors who starred in it,were on This Morning, this morning. He said he made the ad in 2014..He promised to make This Morning's christmas ad next year. Seemed like a lovely guy

It's the best christmas ad I've seen by far this year

Just watched this ad - glad I'm WFH today. It wasn't pretty.

I'm knocking on something with the 2018 version of the Coca Cola ad:

In the original, the bell ringing kid misses the convoy, then I think Santa came back and gave him a coke. Aw. This version, the bell ringing kid misses the convoy, then Santa closes the book and has a jolly laugh about it.

Maybe I'm not as full of the Christmas spirit as I should be :D

I didn't see the BBC one posted.
    I love it.

I sent it onto my mum, it brought her to tears.
I suppose thinking about it, my mum worked full time while me and my sister growing up and my dad worked abroad til I was about 16 so she could really relate to it.

Id say she could relate, she worked full time when we were growing up and my dad worked abroad til I was 16, a lot to juggle.

I watched this because of Matt Smith. I shouldn't have bothered - worst Christmas ad ever. I've actually no idea what was even the point of it tbh.

Same here CheerLouth. Did.nt enjoy it one bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,690 ✭✭✭Day Lewin

    Agreed. Awful ad.
Not only is it morbid and non-festive, it definitely doesn't make me want to buy Burberry stuff. Total turn-off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,065 ✭✭✭otnomart

Yep, It is odd, isn't it ?
    Not Chrismassy at all,
Way off the mark for me.
Wonder which target group they had in mind !

There is no way that was done on a 3 mobile data connection....be lucky to get H+ never mind 3G/4G, to get that from them you would need to be holding onto one of their masts!

Strange as I’m on the 3 network and my 4G is alwYs perfect. I can stream Netflix on full HD on my commutes anyway.

Marketing Week readers’ favourite Christmas ad of 2018

"With 20% of the vote, ‘The Big Night’ was the clear winner, beating Iceland’s (well really Greenpeace’s) advert into second place with 16% of the vote and Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot on 15%. John Lewis’s ad featuring Elton John finished fourth with 11% of the votes and Boots’ ‘Give them something that says you get them’ on 8% rounded out the top five."
