Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lalor was very impressive in the Novice Chase at Cheltenham. Travelled powerfully and jumped quite well.

Samcro goes to the Fighting Fifth according to Emmet Kennedy on Twitter, says he's quoting Elliott on ATR

    Sommerville Boy's target too. Interesting......

Is it time to retire Faugheen ?

    No

i think so, unless he can re-invent himself as a staying hurdler.

He literally won a grade 1 on his second last start.

Judging from Willie's reaction yesterday where he looked genuinely disappointed at Faugheen, I can't help but think that maybe he let sentiment get the better of him in allowing him to run in the first place. What ever you say about 2m on fast ground not suiting Samcro, it definitely wasn't going to suit a 10 year old Faugheen who always ran best with some juice in the going.

Willie talking about Laurina in the RP this morning, saying the owners want to go for the Champion Hurdle but more realistically she'll go for the Mares Hurdle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭RivetingRoger

Anyone else think Beavau Dair is a very good horse, but a very lucky horse who would not be in the same league as previous winners on the CH?
To win 2 in a row is a massive achievement but for me, if a fully fit Faugheen had been around, it beats BD, I also think a younger Jezki, Tent would beat it. Annie, even maybe VVM.

I just don't think its that "great" and I would fully expect Samcro if it stays up, or especially Laurina to beat it.

I'd wager with the mares allowance none of them would touch Annie

I'd say a fully fit Faugheen of 3/4 years ago beats Annie and the rest of em

Laurina is one of the worst prices I've ever seen at this stage for a champion hurdle. She very well might prove up to it but on what we currently know I don't know how anyone could think she is a bet at 5 or 6/11

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Did Mullins not say she'll go for the mares recently??

I think his exact words were the owners want to go to the champion but he thinks the mares route is more realistic. Or something close to that.
Another reason though why she is a scandalous price.

Some juice in the ground now with that weather!

I checked market after reading this and was expecting to see minimum 10s and probably more. Wouldnt be interested in backing her for champion at even those odds given the way these things have panned out with the yard in the past. Don’t mind losing a/p money but don’t like looking like a bit of a chump in the process.

He was for sure. Next run will tell lots for his season ahead. Some nice videos on the trainers Twitter page of him hanging out at home with her daughter, a gentle ghiant mr lalor

The novice hurdle Lalor won at Aintree is a race working out well. Coolanly, 5th, won at Cheltenham last week. Minds Eye, 4th, won a novice chase at Wexford and can do better I think. Bedrock beat Samcro while Vision de Flos has run consistently well without winning.

I think those horses could be worth following. Bedrocks win over Samcro went a bit under the radar. If he turned up in something like the fighting fifth I’d have a serious look at backing him to prove that wasn’t a total fluke.

Is bedrock sold to go to US?

Yes that’s right but I’m assuming it’ll have a winter campaign here before heading stateside.

Pretty sure Ian Jardine said after Down Royal next target would be Newcastle so I'd imagine he goes there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

He’s 12s currently for the fighting fifth and that definitely interests me as he’s more likely to turn up than a couple of those ahead of him. Not saying he’d definitely uphold form with Samcro again but think the price discrepancy between them is well on the unfair side.

    Native River
    Bristol De Mai
    Thistlecrack

Much better race than last year if they all go to post . Bristol won easily but nothing challenged him

Be careful there it is not the distance to the winner. Everything is added to the relative distances at the end of the race and whatever is ahead then.

I.e if might bite wins with native river 1 length back and Bristol 2 lengths further back and the rest nowhere. Then Bristol wins. If you get me. There will only be 1 winner like a regular market.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,564 ✭✭✭kiers47

Fwiw I think I'd take Bristol De Mai +8 lengths if I was forced for a pick.

Thistlecrack +10 for me there, take a chance on fitness. Less than 6 lengths behind MB at Kempton so 10 looks doable.

I realise that , but i think its a 2 horse race and they will be a fair bit clear.

Fair enough. I don't really think it's that simple myself haydock is an odd place.

Good to soft, good in places in a report I seen yesterday.

That's BDM out of the equation so.

These lads are putting a fair bit of cash into the game and it's great to see big owners so engaging. A lot of others could learn from them

3 from 3 at the course. Clearly loves it at Haydock I think he will go close tomorrow.

I just meant with the ground, he wants it soft. Very soft.

    Paloma Blue out tomorrow.

Heavily backed already. I've gone in again for the Arkle. Really like this fella.

I assume this was the winner in that market. No bets although I was for sure tempted when he hit about 9/1 on Betfair. But no cojones unfortunately. :(

Yeah disappointed with that. HDB never has his fully wound up first time out, I'll cling on to the hope he'll come on a fair bit next time out.

It will be interesting to see how Mengli Khan gets on tomorrow. Flat bred but always cleared the hurdles with enough to spare. Big powerful horse who should be suited to chasing. Arkle looks wide open and hard to see where any other genuine Irish contender could come from.
