Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Good episode
I kinda guessed "Arnold" was police when they had the perfect recording and his questions were very police like! Excellent long con to get him to admit though!!

I wasn't going to listen as about a kiddie but did, absolutely excellently done. On a side I hate the C word but it's made for the Aussie accent!

Did shed a tear at the dads words, so eloquently put. RIP Daniel.

    Yes I guessed the same
At first, I thought there was a recording because Arnold had turned police informant but as he probed deeper with questions, they were just so like a police interview. I thought he might get suspicious with questions like the one about the watch and the shovel but I think it said earlier that he did badly in school so I presume he wasn't very intelligent. Fair play to the police, they really put in a lot of effort to get him

Yeah the watch questions were strange!

I finished the 3 part on the Yorkshire Ripper last week and it is gripping stuff, I only subscribed about 3 weeks ago and have 19 episodes left, getting through about two a day!

Case 41 Mr. Cruel was also a really interesting story, scary guy.

Daniel Morcombe was probably the best single episode yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,595 ✭✭✭✭siblers

It was superb. Has the potential for a great film as well
The way it changed focus from Daniel Morcambe to Cowan was really well done, I was fully certain that the gang he was with were going to execute him to cover their tracks, would never have thought it was an undercover operation (until they played the audio recording). Was surprised it took the jury 8 hours to reach their verdict, guess it was possible that they thought he was forced into the confession/burial location)

I started off on Case 8 Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, I remembered it on the news when it happened.

Tina Watson and Jennifer Pan are excellent. If you want to be terrified the east area rapist one is fecking brilliant.

The east area rapist frightened the crap out of me.
I was having a shower the other morning about 7am and listening to it and I looked out the window (you can see out not in) and I saw a woman just standing there. I was convinced it was him even though it was a different gender, different country and I screamed the house down. Never so certain that i was going to be next.

Don't listen to that one in the shower.

(The woman was my next door neighbor. She is a bit of an odd ball and never goes outside till that day).

I was staring at the lock on my window today thinking about the EAR episode. I think the episodes have made quite the impact.

Just seen on their Facebook page they've surpassed 106 million downloads! Amazing numbers and well deserved, best podcast out there imo

Given all the talk in this forum I said I'd give it a go. Good stuff so far and really just cherry picking right now. The Peter Falcioni case episode was something else - an epic podcast episode if there ever was one.

I'm familiar with the Tina Watson case somewhat but haven't listened to the Casefile episode. Worth listening to?

Definitely, it's one of the best single episode podcasts they have done

I still can visualise Tina Watson from his description of her, it's an excellent one to listen too.

    Just finished all episodes, Nooooo!
The EAR is definitely the creepiest episodes.

I've been randomly picking episodes but think I will start at...well the start, so as not to lose my way. The Katherine Knight case (ep 12) ended up pretty chilling...

I'm a big fan of the titles of the episodes where people's names are concerned - I go in to these cases blind (I don't even read the quick description on my podcast feed), so it's a bit of a bonus in of itself to hear it unfold as I listen, and find out whether the person titled for the episode, is a victim or a perpetrator

What did you make of it? I listened to generation why's Tina Watson and wasn't a patch on casefile

I hope I am not derailing the thread. But as an avid fan of Casefile, I came across a UK version that is similar called

"They walk among us, UK True Crime"

I am enjoying it, if you can say that about murder and so on!

    Just thought I'd mention it.

Funny you should say that. I was reluctant to listen to the Casefile episode as I had heard the Generation Why episode on this some time ago.

The Casefile episode is a much better 'summary' of what happened to Tina Watson. Overall Casefile is stylistically, narratively and production-wise, better than GW. I was all in on this episode with Casefile, whereas e.g. the audio quality on GW is poor in comparison.

I don't like the narrator for "They walk among us"..he is just so soft and gentle and he doesn't really hold my attention, find myself zoning out quite a bit when listening to it, which is a shame as the level of detail they go into is pretty impressive

Just listening to the Tina Watson one. So sad what a way to go the bastard.
Just googled pics of them as well- you'd swear you were looking at Joe o Reilly and Rachel Callaly.

Loved the EAR ones. Was totally freaked at night going to bed however.

Found this weeks a bit dull - so many names I couldn't really concentrate the way I usually can. Might just be me, mind you :P

They didn't mention it on the pod but the Walsh street case was covered in a fairly famous movie called Animal Kingdom. It's quite a good movie with an excellent cast. Also made into a US tv show last year.

Yeah I was in the full site, that's a strange one. I think if you use [ spoiler ] instead of [ SPOILER ] it won't display on the full site but it will on the mobile site. No need for apologies!

It says a lot about Casefile that they manage to inject an element of atmosphere into their ads!

For any of ye interested, there's a BBC Drama called The Moorside based off the Shannon Matthews case, I only saw a few minutes of it when it initially aired, I've no idea how factually correct it is or if it's even any good, although BBC usually do a good job for these kind of shows

This weeks episode was very tense.
Unbelievable how the cruise line reacted.

Excellent podcast this week. Very sad case.

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭CiaranW

Yeah it was a good episode. The stat that was revealed near the end was interesting too.
May put me off a cruise holiday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,310 ✭✭✭✭Cienciano

    I dunno, when someone
disappears, police have no leads and they have no idea what happened seem to end
a bit flat for me. She could be alive, she could be dead, could be kidnapped,
could be suicide, could be an accident, could be a murder. All the same, it was
    an interesting episode.
Defend the cruise line at all cost seems to be the staffs motto.

TCG is excellent, I think it really helps to have more than one host because it becomes more of a conversation than a monotone which is what I feel you get with Casefile. Its just a pity they have made a lot of their earlier episodes paid only.

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭mickoc

Not for me. I started listening to Crime garage while casefile was away and dont think its great. I think the other guy with the host is a bit drab. I love the seriousness and tension within casefile, which, I dont think crime garage has.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,339 ✭✭✭PropJoe10

Casefile is absolutely brilliant. Only stumbled on it a few weeks ago so am working my way through it. It's so well researched, fantastic stuff. Think the Family Court Murders was my favourite so far.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 14,124 Mod ✭✭✭✭pc7

I only knew the very basics of This weeks story (Jonestown),
that it was a cult and mass suicide. But fook me the 3rd part was very hard listen, I never realised how many people were involved, those poor babas and children, I was bawling.
the recordings of Jones reminds me of how Trump speaks

The tone is very much part of what makes casefile I agree.
All that craft beer crap on true crime garage annoys me also.
