Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OK I get the 2 wickets, but how many runs? Who's taken the wickets? Who made history with the first ball and indeed first wicket?

I'm relying on you guys for a personal feed :)

45/2, First ball was Murtagh. First wicket was an edge for Rankin, followed next ball by a lbw for Murtagh.

Cricinfo state 98 overs will be played today - 56/2 after 25 overs sounds respectable, even to a complete bluffer like myself.

Dockrell a better choice than Thompson I reckon.

67/2 after 28 overs at lunch - guess the coming hours will tell us what way the balance of play is developing.

What happened to the singh lad. Thought he played well at the WCQ doesnt appear to be on team sheet.

Ireland were all over them for the first 40 minutes or so. Don't know if the pitch was misbehaving. The Pakistani 3 and 4 look settled, it would be good to remove one or both before they start scoring heavily.

Hardly a cloud in the sky now.

Third wicket falls, as Thompson catches Sohail - 76/3 currently.

What time we playing till? Guerllia Cricket mentioned extended till 3.30 to make up for yesterday. Hopefully they meant that tea was delayed till then.

I think it's designated for 6.30 but could be more if light permits

Cricinfo saying 98 overs will be played if dry, 7 p.m. suggested. Pakistan starting to build up a head of steam now, reach the century on 37 overs.

Babar Azam caught by Stirling, 106/4 after 39 overs.

Think this is the first test match I've followed. How does the end of an inning work? Is it just keep doing until they are all out?

Unlimited overs as far as I know. Keep batting till all out, or team declares. Two innings each per match.

Starting to run away from Ireland now, 148/4 after 46 overs.

    153 for 5.

Ah there's a long way to go. That's decent progress for a multi day match and we have another now. Test cricket is a very different game to limited overs cricket.

    159/6

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Poor shot from Sarfraz Ahmed and Pakistan are 159-6. Stuart Thompson has proven to be quite canny on this pitch.

Let's see what the Pakistan lower order has.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Runs starting to flow now for Pakistan with a mix of lucky edges and poor bowling. 186-6.

What final Pakistan tally would we need to have any hopes of a first innings lead - under 300, presumably?

Aye all out under 300 would be great, give us something reasonable to aim at and hopefully take our full test the distance, which would be a good way to begin!

    As low as possible:)

Hard to tell for a first test, but 300-350 is a par score typically for a first innings, depending on opposition strength/pitch/location etc.

Now 223/6, seem to have stemmed the flow from now.

The lower the better. It's always hard to gauge a good score - depends on the conditions and state of the wicket to a certain extent. Seems like they have lost a couple of wickets to poor shots, which is good news (rather than the pitch being bowler-friendly).

Below 400 would be OK, but these two are settled now, Mohammed Amir can swing a bat, think 10 & 11 are rabbits. Good effort so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

    233/6, 70 overs played.

The old cliche 'catches win matches' - two gone down now for this partnership :(

Anyone think we could get them all out before close of play today. Allow us to give a good go from the off tomorrow.

Need to get one wicket first, nearly better off if they were 8 or 9 down overnight, nothing worse for openers than a 15 or 20 minute session at the end of a long day in the field

    Play stopped for bad light.

Just checked RTE to see what time highlights were this evening. 11pm tonight, and again tomorrow!

    :(

    Off for bad light, 268-6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

Thunder and lightning now, apparently, so looks like close of play for today.

Stadium evacuated according to Gorilla Cricket! Their live commentry gone as well. That could be it for the day if the case.

I legged it when tea was called, looking like a decent decision.

Good day out, although I was late getting into the ground as the designated car park was full when I turned up at 11. Ended up in a small housing estate about 10 minutes walk from the ground. Decent food options, hardly any queuing either. That was at lunch too when you'd expect things to be busy.

What a great day! Excellent start for Ireland, but then the Pakistani 7 and 8 put up a hundred between them and they aren't finished.

    The atmosphere was good too.

It was just the stands that were cleared. Apparently they are more unsafe in lightning than a beer tent :)

In some respects it was better that today ended abruptly. The bowling attack was getting quite tired and a late wicket, while welcome, would have seen a night watchman take to the field. Fresh arms and a new ball should give up wickets before midday.

There wouldn’t be much point putting in a night watchman when it’s number 9 or 10 next in.

We need wickets quickly this morning and get them out for 300.Anything past that is going to be a challenge. Better them batting early this morning and with the new ball due at 90 overs hope we can get it to swing and nip the last 4 wickets. By the afternoon the sun is out and the wicket will flatten and dry more, great for batting then...........Hope we have`nt missed a trick by not playing a spin bowler, we looked at bit tired at 5 yesterday evening. Stirling is only a part timer

There is live coverage on Sky Sports Mix (the free channel if you have Sky or Virgin media) from 10.55 to 2.30 today, and then all day tomorrow and Tuesday.

Edit, they seem to have changed the schedule, golf on now. Shame.

    Wicket! Murtagh with it 276/7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭Conchir

The Sky coverage has swapped over to the IPL. According to their twitter it's on the red button, but doesn't appear to be for me anyway. Did anyone watching on tv yesterday manage to figure it out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Need to get these out reasonably soon. Think follow on target is 150, so we could be under pressure to avoid that deficit. Can’t be dropping catches, that’s for sure.

Red button isn’t working for me

Another wicket. Thompson finally removes Faheem Ashraf. 304-8.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Great ball by Murtagh. Amir gone. 306/9.

I was in Malahide yesterday so this was my first day watching on the tv. Very unimpressed with their 'coverage'. Why bother buying the rights to the Test if they only show the first 5 overs? At least if the red button was available like they said it would still be watchable, but no.

Was on to Sky, "technical issues" with red button coverage, they don't know if it will be fixed. But is available on sky player, so I just need to get broadband rolled out and all will be good!

    Pakistan declared at 310?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Pakistan surprisingly declare, but it is effectively a 4 day game and the two tail-enders were not exactly middling it.

Good score for Pakistan on a pitch where the ball has done a bit.

Will be tough against Amir and Rahat Ali. Ireland will need to knuckle down.
