Aren't forecasts great they always predict huge storms and fine weather...they give us what we want...until the day actually arrives...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭appledrop

The forecasts that showed Sunday as blazing sun all day seem to now be forecasting the day to be cloudier and cloudier as we get nearer to the day. Ffs.

I'm not one bit surprised. All summer they were forever predicting sunny days in Dublin that never came through + looks like same again this Sunday.

Their forecasts have been shocking for Dublin this summer way out. There were days when cloud Dawn to dusk yet the app would tell you that the sun would be coming in next hour, or next hour. Never happened.

We haven't been able to get rid of the Atlantic influence all summer, we get so close but always just that little bit too far north and west. Anytime we managed to lose it's grip then the Irish sea provided the enhanced level of cloud over Dublin/Meath and parts of Kildare whenever there was a sniff of high pressure or warm uppers. Similar story next week, the cloud from the west will already be rolling in by the time the warm uppers get here with the hot unbroken sunshine ahead to that over England and Wales. If we get the easterly going from mid week then we will likely have cool onshore winds and possibly cloud/mist/fog to deal with so we will probably lose out on the sun yet again.

Nice sunset tonight after a cloudy day in Dublin with partial effects of the smoke from the fires in west US.

Another beautiful morning in Cork City. Just reading back through thread and looks like we've done really well since the start of September compared to other parts. Very dry (Just 13mm so far, nearly all recorded on Sep 1 and 2) and warm even if we could have done with a bit more sun. Was out digging in the garden yesterday evening and the ground is bone dry again after getting a good drenching in August. Looks like a 10th straight dry day.

That rain heading towards Mayo looks fairly heavy shouldnt last too long though...

Latest radar now shows more rain coming in behind it now though

Windy and cloudy here now it was a half decent day...this morning was decent this afternoon less so.

The grey came eventually to Dublin and has been cloudy for a while now. Hopefully tomorrow fares better.

Waterford has been practically dry for a week. I'm shocked!

Sunny morning but clouded over and a bit blowy this afternoon.

Same to your north, constant deluge since around 1pm, lights on all evening and will be drawing the curtains soon. Definitely a night for the fire

Radar looks unreal for rain. Bypassing us here so far. Meath. Warm dry morning. It attempted to rain an hour ago but passed. Very breezy now.

it was nice here till about 2pm then the cloud rolled in and the breeze picked up and feeling fairly chilly now and fire lit. Should be warmer from tomorrow for a few days.

It was a beautiful sunny morning here in NCD but cloudy from 1 on + chilly aswell but it is autumn so to be expected.

The most depressing thing is the dark evenings. Its pitch black now and only 8pm.

I'm now back in work + no longer wfh so in another few weeks won't be able to get out for walk in evenings before it gets dark.

Its going to be a long winter. I think the clocks shouldn't be put back this year for everyone's sanity. Its not a normal year anyway so they could make an exception.

Got a great day here in Kerry today, Sunshine and passing cloud much of the day and increasingly clear towards evening. Wind picked up throughout the day and quite breezy this evening, I see the W Got up to 94 km/h earlier.

Got up to 17.9C and still relatively mild at 16.6C.

Surprised at how windy it got here earlier this evening. A warm wind through and not unpleasant to be out in in just a light teeshirt.

Marine gale with the deluges here. Non stop all the long loud night long. Water lying on the drive.
    West Mayo offshore.

Balmy this morning in Swords. 16c at 0530 on the way to work with a decent wind.

Looking forward to some decent spells of weather this week.

Loud South west gale still raging. Autumnal weather west coast style.. The rain has eased for now.

Beautiful here in Meath, plenty of sunshine and 20C, one of the best days we've had since June the 2nd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭appledrop

Stunning day here in NCD. It is fairly windy, here in Newbridge house so I wouldnt advise going to coast, much more enjoyable to go to park.

Enjoy it while you can! Barbecue this evening. Last one of the year.

    Windy tropical day in Kildare

fingers crossed Tuesday might be another day just as good as today. Tuesday will probably the last day we will reach 20C until next May or June. Definitely make the absolute very most of today as there is no guarantee of sunshine tomorrow or Tuesday.

Cooler air takes over from the east from Wednesday and it could be quite cool by the weekend. It does look reasonably dry over the next 7 to 10 days.

Once again, it seems the south east of the country is under cloud while the north is getting warm sunshine. Should rename it to the rainy south east. :D

Stunning day in Dublin 23C. Was in Wicklow earlier on the beach and it was the same. As posters above said, definitely make the most of today!

22C now at Dunshaughlin combined with sunshine, a rare treat this year.

    23C reported at Phoenix Park.

On the west Donegal coast today and haven't seen more than 5 minutes of sun all day, satellite is a bit misleading. Dry and mild at least so still one of the better days this month

amazing day overall today in Meath and Dublin, went to the Phoenix Park and the place was packed with people enjoying one of the few warm and sunny days we've had this year. Today is probably the best day overall we've had since June.

  • Registered Users Posts: 56 ✭✭Shepards Delight

A very cold day in claremorris due to the strong wind
Any sunny spells were few and few between
It was more like proper autumn day as the leaves came flying off the trees . At least there was no water falling from the sky .

Best day since 8 August for me. Spent the day at Laytown and Dún Laoghaire. Very little cloud and perfect feeling temperature with a nice coastal breeze.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,066 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Sunny start here near Tralee and cloudy in the afternoon with a bit of mist near the mountains and brightened up very nicely in the late afternoon.

Got up to a very decent 19.8C here and still mild at 15.4C

Pics taken mid afternoon from the Kerry cliffs near Portmagee in S Kerry, visibility not great but with the bracing wind and crashing waves below made it quite spectacular. Skelligs in the background of the third picture.

high pressure pretty much for the next week, pity this didn't happen in July or August. Low 20's in mid September would be more like mid to high twenties in July and August. Looks like i'll be able to continue the gardening work that I abandoned towards the end of June.
