    December the 6th 1981. The U.N. Post on Hill 880 was under threat from the Christian Malitia. As night crept in, the threat continued. In order to keep the area lit up, the Heavy Mortar Troop (stationed in The Glen) repeatedly fired 120mm Illumination rounds over the area. The Picture, taken by Keiran Keogh, shows the flash as a mortar is launched. Larry Concannon on the right.

    The heavy mortar pic has been hanging on my wall since 1982, the figure in the middle is my father(now deceased) Tommy Dorney. I have other pics from that night including the firing of the heavy machine gun which was used to destroy the engine of a truck the militia were using as advancing cover.

    Thanks for putting up those pics whydave, they bring back good memories of the stories my father used to tell me. I will scan and upload what pics i have.
