Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Three of my favourite aircraft of all time, A-10 'Warthog, F-16 'Fighting Falcon', AH-64D 'Apache Longbow'

Hate to get all pedantic about this but isn't that just a 'normal' Apache as opposed to a Longbow, the Longbow having a large dome above the main rotor assembly.........sorry:o

In Afghan society, a full beard is a mark of maturity. You simply don't get any respect as a man without one. Many of the SF units tasked with outreach missions to the remote areas have grown beards because a) they can, and b) it encourages the tribal elders to take them seriously.

Beards are also allowed in some of the regular Scandinavian forces.

You are absolutely spot on, I was so enthralled with the pic I failed to recognise that the most obvious D upgrade was missing, the FCR/RFI dome. Doh!

One of the other D upgrades was 'tactical internet comms', is that what we are doing here on boards?? :D

December the 6th 1981. The U.N. Post on Hill 880 was under threat from the Christian Malitia. As night crept in, the threat continued. In order to keep the area lit up, the Heavy Mortar Troop (stationed in The Glen) repeatedly fired 120mm Illumination rounds over the area. The Picture, taken by Keiran Keogh, shows the flash as a mortar is launched. Larry Concannon on the right.

The heavy mortar pic has been hanging on my wall since 1982, the figure in the middle is my father(now deceased) Tommy Dorney. I have other pics from that night including the firing of the heavy machine gun which was used to destroy the engine of a truck the militia were using as advancing cover.

Thanks for putting up those pics whydave, they bring back good memories of the stories my father used to tell me. I will scan and upload what pics i have.
