Did the Ring of Kerry over two days last week, in the glorious sunshine. Took a break in the middle to get out to Skellig Michael.

Is that the one just outside Portmagee? I came out from Killarney, heading into my last 10km of 110km, and this bloody road just kept going up and up and up.

Had to stop to wash out the sweat and sunscreen from my eyes. Painful.

Coomakishta is the high point on the Waterville to Caherdaniel road - the carpark with the holy statue and loads of tourist buses. Nice views towards Waterville on one side, and down over Derrynane on the other. I think I know the climb you mean tho!

If the other climb is a wall into Portmagee, then it is Coomanaspig.
If you got up in one go then chapeau.

Coomanaspig! That's the one. I'd like to think I might've managed it... if I hadn't been carrying a bag, and washing sunscreen out of my eyes with the content of my bidons. Good times! :D

The locals informed me that races in the region usually take it in, including Rás na Mumhan.
edit: odd, was just reading Ryan Sherlock's blog, and looks like the route didn't go over Coomanaspig, they must've meant Coomakishta.

I had some free time during a work trip to the San Francisco Peninsula area so hired a bike and headed for the hills.

The junction of Tunitas Creek Road and Skyline Boulevard after climbing up Tunitas from the coast. An absolute killer of a climb, 8.7km @ 5.5% for the worst part, with long sections > 10%.

Surfaces are pretty bad, but more bone rattling than wheel buckling, hence the newly acquired sprung Brooks saddle. Extending the loop to Wellingtonbridge adds a great little roller coaster section, and going via Tintern abbey will give you some great photo ops.

A few from the several hundred I took on last weeks trip across Andalucia, Spain. Most of these were taken fairly early in the morning which was a really pleasant time of the day with a somewhat irish summer climate, before the clouds parted and the heat of the afternoon descended. Most of the roads were in really excellent condition, extremely hilly though, almost always climbing or bombing down a mountain side. Great trip, great people, great place. Highly recommend it for roadies and mountain bikers alike.
