    I was standing on my head to get a better view. Passing motorists thought it was slightly odd.

    @velopeloton

    Is that the famous monument in the back of the truck or just a very big cyclist?

    Preety old ones. Taken on a road called the Horse Shoe on Truskmore in Sligo.

    Road goes up as far as about 800 foot. Summit is nearer 2000 where the RTE transmitter is.

    Yes. It is taken down in October to protect it from the extreme cold and to stop skiers climbing up on it, or skiing into it. It is returned on the first Saturday of June each year for the summer. There were 1200 cyclists riding up with it, it has become a local tradition. Only a few hundred made it up to the summit, it was very cold and most turned back at La Mongie. I rode up there again today on our club ride, it was much warmer today.

    Lovely little loop that, only 10km! It got a mini-writeup in the Irish Times just before the Tour of Sligo was on this year, so I went out of my way the day before to give it a spin. Some of the most dramatic scenery in Ireland right there.

    Obligatory shot from Coomakiste on the Ring of Kerry, Saturday of the June weekend.

    Great day for a cycle, and the coffee and cake at Siopa Chill Rialaig in Ballinskelligs was the business (no connection!)

    Breathtaking no matter the weather conditions! These scenes are the reason I love cycling so much.

    Is that including the warning signs to trespassers.

    :D

    I start of in Sligo Town when doing that run and crank it up to a 60 to 70k plus cycle. The Horse Shoe would be about the half way point.

    I love the long shadows when the sun is going down, not another person around and all the little flies trying to climb inside your face through ears / eyes / nose / mouth
