Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rumours in the town suggest something a bit more serious happened at the Gleneagle than a unexplained tragedy.
I have no idea and can't understand why you would want to know and why you would want to ask a stranger on the internet if he was.

I am sorry, I am curious i.e. nosy and there is rumours swirling

So your plan to correct the rumours is to ask a total stranger on the internet what their version of events is?

    Are you for real?

The Failte or Scotts will both have the game on and food is decent in both. Obviously book anything beforehand cos itll be busier with the game on.

Alternatively, I've heard McSorleys is open as normal. No need to book and no need to have food although I'm not sure how true that is as I dont live in town any more. Massive screen out the back too so may be worth a look in.

    Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place, but myself and my o/h have 2 nights booked in Killarney next week -arriving early Thursday until Saturday. She has never been to the kingdom before and I haven't in years. Just wondering what the main attractions we should try get to are? I was thinking of trying to fit in Muckross/Torc/Gap of Dunloe on the Thursday. Is this feasible or should I break it up between the Thursday and Friday? Any recommended restaurants-come-pubs to grab a bite to eat and a few drinks in?

Planning on heading to Dingle/Dunquin early on the Saturday. Open to any suggestions though.

    Thanks.

Muckross / Torc can easily be done in one trip, the waterfall car park is just a few km down the road from the Muckross house carpark.

As for timing, it really depends how long you want to spend at each place. You could spend 20 minutes or 5 hours, there is plenty to see. Same goes for the Gap of Dunloe. It's about 15 minutes outside town, if you want to drop the car in the car park and stroll up to the first bridge and back, you would probably be done in an hour, taking a Jaunting car trip in or to any of those locations would likely be multiple hours (It's been years since I was on one).

Depending on how early you arrive, and what you actually want to do in the locations, I would suggest hitting Torc first, if you just want to see the base of the waterfall and not actually climb up to any of the viewing points, allow for 20 - 30 minutes, longer if you want to go up the steps (There are some beautiful views up there)

Then on to Muckross, allow for an hour or two minimum, park in the house car park, go around to the other side of the house and there are some lovely gardens there, a rockery, and then some more opposite that. You can go down to the lake shore from there at Dundag (A little rocky beach) and come back via the walk by the lawn outside the house. Muckross is huge though, so you can spend as much time there as you want to.

Off to the gap then, maybe walk to the first bridge if that floats your boat, if you wanted to make a longer trip of it (And assuming they are running), you could do the entire 11km of it (Walk, or jaunting car) and then get a boat from Lord Brandon's cottage to Ross Castle, but that would be a much longer trip. Assuming you are just there for a stroll and a look, you could head back to Kate Kearney's for a bite to eat.

As to places to eat in town, plenty going on at the moment, you quite possibly want to book ahead as town is very busy at the moment. Places I have eaten in recently and had a good meal (At the cheaper, more casual, price point) are The Porterhouse, The Whisky Bar, Scotts Hotel, The Lane Bar & Ktown, and (At the more expensive, 'treat', side), Treyvaud's, Malarkey and Lord Kenmare's.

When youre going to muckross house make sure you stop at muckross abbey first.

Beautiful scenic walk in to an old abandoned abbey that you can explore. 100% worth a look. Its about 5 minutes before the entrance to muckross house

Get the boat from Ross castle to Lord Brandon's cottage and then walk down the Gap to Kate kearneys. You'll have to get a taxi though but it's a lovely trip

Plus the walk down the Gap is easier on the legs!

K-Town on Beech Rd. is a good spot also.

Yes, actually! And better than my suggestions. Not sure why I never think of K Town as I've been there a few times for matches, pints and food and all 3 are very good. Big screen also.

New viewing platform at the Blasket Ctr in Dunquin, great spot for a walk too.

This might be a touchy one, but has there been an increase in vagrancy around the town in the last 6-9 months?

Definitely more visible. Especially in College Square and at the bottom of Chapel lane (near Sheehan's Centra)

Personally cannot remember it ever being as visible as it is at the moment and I live in the town. Sad to see.

Hi Guys.... can anyone recommend a GOOD plumber.???

    By 'Good' - I mean:
    1. Tidy in his work.
    2. Knows what he is doing
    3. Reviews the situation BEFORE starting job (NOT looking for water switch-off valve AFTER water is pouring out!)
    4. comes out at the time you arrange

As you can see.... I have had some bad experiences with 'a friend of a friend' so am looking to try a new plumber.

I have a leaky toilet needing new parts installed which is beyond my DIY skills

    Any recommendations???

Anyone know what's going on there?

Don't know what the story is. There was a sign up on the window a good while back saying they were making some changes and would be reopening. But nothing seems to be happening there now. The downstairs part was all self service but upstairs always had table service.

There would not be enough space for adequate social distancing to probably turn a profit would be my thinking.

Been out in Muckross Park most days with the dog, they've been noisy enough but haven't seen anything yet. Front entrance to the Park is usually a good place to spot anything though.

The house beside Daly's Supervalu was demolished in the past few days. They must be progressing with whatever expansion they got permission for. I hope it includes some better system of entrance and exit.

Ya they're looking to make where that house was a SuperMacs drivethru. Looking to expand the floorspace of the shop then.

Does anyone know if the recycling centre will be operating from tomorrow onwards? (Closed today). I have refuse bins but I have a massive amount of cardboard and old washing machine etc. to get rid of. I know for the last lockdown, they were only letting people in who had household waste to dump and only if they didn't have any refuse service.

New coffee shop in Tralee called Park Gate opened last week, they know what they're doing, not as far a drive as Dingle either for a good coffee as there is zero places to get coffee in Killarney, pathetic at this stage there's nowhere in town

curious Cat? Black sheep Hostel? Lis? Petit Delice? Cafe du Parc?

I find all of them can be good, depending on if the barista either knows what they are doing or gives a crap....

To be honest none of those are really good, they are barely average, but they are not specialising in coffee so no hate there, it's just not their goal.

If you want to try good coffee from proper coffee shops dedicated solely to serving coffee then give Park Gate in Tralee a go also Bookshelf, Bean and My Boy Blue in Dingle. And if you're in Cork then try Soma, Filter, Alchemy, Nector. Once you go beyond Cork even the level of quality coffee roasters in Ireland is really high!

99.9% of places in Killarney use terrible beans and don't have the passion for coffee to do it right. You'll see a major difference if you try these shops!
