Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hewett and all that.

She can quit if she wants but how can he quit as a senior royal ? In the not to distant future his father will become king and then his brother and nephew.

I don’t get this argument, the amount of tourism the royals bring into UK is massive. I would have thought they are well covering their costs.

They can move to North America and after a couple of months they will just be another celebrity. If they move to Los Angeles it will be a couple of weeks. It's a no brainier co spidering the constant abuse from the British Tabloid "media".

But not him. He’s now too far down the line to ever have a chance at being King.

They’re doing the right thing. William and Kate are the future.

I could see something like this happening or the marriage ending!

Can't listen to them since they gave the climate change lecture after stepping out of private jet.

He’s dead right, now he can go and live his own life.

It’ll be interesting if Andrew now follows suit, he’s even further down the pecking order than Harry and both Charles and William are in favour of a trimmed down royal family.

He looks way more like Prince Philip than he does James Hewitt.

I have to agree with you there. He’s very like the young Prince Philip.

Any suspicion that maybe this was a mutual agreement between the royal family and themselves? Recently the point was raised that since Meghan is a US citizen there are tax implications...

Good for them - the press never really gave Megan a chance and I'd say Harry's real calling is charitable work anyway. It's not like he'll ever sit on the throne.

I hope they're very happy in their new life away from the royal cesspit.

I know it's kind of funny to suggest that he's no relation to the English Queen, but apart from the red hair (something he shares with a number of Diana Spencer's relatives), he looks nothing like Hewitt.

The tourists see their palaces, from a distance, pretty sure they don't get to have a chat with queenie or anyone else.

The Palace of Versailles has coped quite well without an actual living royal using it for quite some time.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

'Financially independent' - will be interesting to see how that works out, perhaps all those private jet holidays can be paid for by signing up to an ad agency to sell cola or shampoo.
The uk taxpayers will still have to fork out the £0.6m annual security costs regardless, and so likely all those flights back and forth.
Unless it's remote Canada the press hounds will still be looking for regular photos and interviews.

Best idea would be to head off to some remote island e.g. off Scotland and start a low-cost, green, organic, self-sufficient (solar panels/wind) farming lifestlye (with just the odd weekly podcast/sponsored tweet).

He's punching way above his weight there. She's an attractive, successful woman and he's just a former soldier.

I presume they are going to trade on the royal titles to earn a living in the US. They definitely wont just be "another celebrity" and probably don't want to be. The US will lap up the royal connection, unlike the UK and even the royal family themselves who seem to be sick of their behaviour of going against royal tradition, snubbing functions, trying to "modernise" the monarchy etc. (Not that theres anything particularly wrong with that to regular people but to fans of the family and the institution itself there clearly is)

I await their appearances on Oprah etc and of course, they will still need protection which presumably will be funded by the UK taxpayers.

I didn't mean to quote that post.
I meant she's getting the blame for them pulling back ties from the Royal Family.

Always seemed like he bears a lot of resentment over what happened his mother. And does not want his wife to go through the same.

More power to him. Seems like a decent skin.

How does stepping back from royal life and stating a determination to become financially independent under their own steam make them "f*cking wasters"? Surely quite the opposite is true?

Harry didn't choose to be born into the royal family, and he's experienced a lot of downsides of that life, from losing his mother at age 12 to being hounded by the media himself.

They are within their rights to opt out and do what makes them happy. All the best to them.

He's never really been like the rest of them, has he? And I don't mean biologically. He has never seemed like someone who was whole heartedly into the royal lifestyle tbh.

    Probably wearing similar nazi uniforms.

After the Prince Andrew scandal, Prince Charles has already made noises about scaling down the whole operation, and reducing the numbers on the Civil List. So a move to Canada would make sense in this context. Not the USA: why swap UK tabloids for US tabloidsl, plus MM has friends in Vancouver and Toronto thanks to Suits.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

"after many months of reflection..." translate - Meghan told me

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

I could see something like this happening or the marriage ending!

She never looked comfortable being dragged around from one engagement to the next, forced interest and smiles all the way. Probably a case of Harry was somewhat used to it, having been born into and growing up with it but you’d be bored of your tits...”yes isn’t it a lovely day, ohhh you have the biggest and most diverse collection of plant pots in Britain, how lovely.. can I see your begonias ?” Can’t blame them for wanting to fûck off.

They arent opting out though. They are scaling back their duties but will still split their time between the UK and north america and are still members of the royal family. So they will keep their titles and privileges and earn off the royal name while not really doing many public duties. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.

I think after Charlie they should stop charging the public for the Royals.

I think the last ones are too 'not Royal' and not worthy or cost effective.

In fact besides Zara and her hubby they arent even likable anymore.

The money that is being spent by their 'pr' machines to keep ramming them down our necks by banging them in the papers every day is unreal.

I think that the Ginger and the social climber have realised that no pr machine is going to make them more likable or more attractive than his brother Prince workshy and Princess do nothing.

The whole 'financially independent ' thing will be interesting to watch.
    How will they make money?
Will she go back to being an actress, one with a lot more power to charge huge money, now she is royal?
Are they going to refuse all crown moneys from now on?

Given their huge media profile, it would be very easy for them to make a living, whether setting up something themselves or working for an established organisation.

It’s all part of the master plan.

They’ll move to the US, raise their child as an American citizen, push them in to politics and eventually become POTUS.

A member of the Royal family in the White House.

We will have our western colony back, sooner or later.
