Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What TD? Try Adams and Munster. I'm from Drogheda as I think you are, luckily I don't have this problem but I dare say if it was happening on the Dublin road the gardai might so something!!

Yeah I am. I do get the impression that sometimes there is a rational in the Garda logic that if they just ignore X activities in certain estates, then all the scummers will go to those estates and leave everywhere else alone.

So people in rathmullan, finians, moneymore, ballsgrove, etc. will be tormented, but it's for the greater good as those are the scumbag estates and at least it keeps the nuisances away from the 'nicer' areas around the town.

And i can kinda see the logic, the unfortunate thing being that the vast, vast majority of the residents in those areas are decent genuine people and are not at all scumbags. There are about 1,000 houses between rathmullan, ballsgrove and finians park, and I'd say if you evicted about 10 of the families the whole place would be different.

I see it has appeared on DroghedaLife's website though as the main article: https://droghedalife.com/

I help out a fair bit with some of the older people in my estate, and run little errands for some of them or pop around to make sure they're okay/still alive, and they are terrified of the noise of these bikes. I genuinely don't know if the scummers on the bikes are aware of that impact they have or not. Not that I'm saying it'd actually change their behaviour.

Unfortunately, I don't think SF have the same power they once had, to deal with this kind of thing. Their 'army' doesn't seem effective or realistic anymore. I'd have no issue with a few lads calling around to these 'motorsport enthusiasts' and breaking their arms. Would cheer me right up.

The Guards are a underpaid and unmotivated police force. They are not going to bother with these scummers.

I think an Garda Siochana has had its day in its current existence and needs a complete overhaul. The brand is toxic. Summers have no respect for them.

Absolutely blown away by the people bending over backwards to excuse it too.

There were a couple of posters a while back doing the same to justify how horses were appropriate pets for housing estates too.

Here's a few paragraphs, from an article on the Yamaha PW 50, from the current edition of Bike Buyers Magazine. I don't think Super Dad paid much heed to it though.

Can you quote these people to give examples of this ?

Unless and until people start taking proper precautions when buying and using scramblers and stop doing stupid things like buying them for children they should be banned.

My main issue with them is the noise. Slide under the wheels of a truck and kill yourself for all I care, just don't annoy me while you're doing it.

You'd think that they would be regulated in that regard, though, anyway. Crazy how needlessly loud some of them are.

Because they are for off road use, they are not subjected to as much noise regulation like a road bike would.

I'm not excusing them, just explaining why they are so loud compared to a normal motorcycle.

They are, but this thread isn't about the those who obey the laws (that are already there).

Is it the community in some areas that's at fault or what?

These scramblers are available to everyone but I've never seen any kids terrorising any neighbourhoods near me with them.

Plenty of bike crazy kids around but there are proper events on that seem enough to keep them happy.

    .

It's the destruction that bothers me. Where I am I rarely come across them but plenty of times our rugby pitch has been wrecked .

Certain areas are prone to it but it doesn't stop them going through let's say better areas.

There was a guy going around Ballinteer and Churchtown few years back... He was a nut job altogether and was all over the roads....

See them nearly every day in Dublin city centre over by Amien street etc.

to be sold to people, any found ridden on the road unregistered should be confiscated and crushed, no questions.

Enough with the insults. I only asked a question.

We have adequate laws in this country to prosecute people breaking the law. You think banning them is going to make any difference? The issue here is enforcing the law, or to be more precise, not enforcing the law.

It has been posted by someone already on this thread that proposals to help Gardai deal with this issue, specifically to do with seizing these machines, has been blocked by certain political parties. Abusing me isn't going to help, is it.

We already have laws to do so. Enforcement is what is required.

And just so you are aware, we had to move from a certain part of Tallaght due to severe anti social behaviour. Scramblers were part of that so I'm certainly not making any excuses for them.

But look past your outrage and figure out what can be done to stop it.

The LM of Dublin spoke about this briefly on the Adrian Kennedy phone show yesterday morning. They are going to continue this morning. Currently, the Gardai can seize a bike from a young lad flying around on it. His parents can then arrive at the station and reclaim it. Current situation is a joke. He agrees that we need legislation to be able to crush them when seized.

The bikes are supposed to be for Motorsports but aren't being used such afaik. I thought that was pretty obvious what the poster meant.

Stolen, they're a particular target and these thieves are willing to travel to get them, hardly it's intended use/user.

Just reading a few more reports about this and none mention the scrambler is stolen. Of course that can't be known right now but the opposite is also true. A xmas present from Mammy and Daddy, I would bet.

I watched an Australian documentary once where bikers killed the wife and child of a traffic cop. He unmercifully hunted them down in his V8 interceptor and killed them all.
Maybe the solution is to have leather clad Gardai in V8 powered death machines hunting down the scum.

    🙈🙉🙊

I see a guy in cork killed himself on a scrambler.
At 8pm on a public trail he crashed into a tree.
At least no one else involved.

I see people posting on social media, RIP, he was only trying to get fresh air etc. We're all being told to stay at home, don't think going out on a scrambler counts as either an essential journey or exercise.

You are worried it can't be revived?
    Isn't that a good thing?

Loads of kids used to ride then where I live but very few now a lot of them got robbed. My nephew is 8 and has a dirt bike difference is he has 2 fields to ride it in. Doesn't have any neighbours so I think that's fine.

Letting kids ride dirtbikes on the road is a danger to road used, pedistrians and them selves. In my own opinion if a kid gets killed on the road using a dirt bike his parents bought him they should be prosicuted for man slaughter.

All illegal of course, shouldn't have been on them and a park is no place or an estate...

The mother should be answering to child neglect.
Was it the dad showing off most likely too.
