Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Unfortunately this was inevitable once the Covid-19 issue took hold, people simply aren't booking flights at the moment.

Hopefully though Aer Lingus will give first refusal for new contracts in future years to those who have been let down this year. It's especially unfortunate for those that have already quit their jobs to join EI, that must be a terrible situation to find yourself in through no fault of your own.

Yep that’s me, unemployed now. Family mortgage etc but look not a lot EI can do just have to roll the dice now.

Not being a smart ass as I know what it was like to be made redundant in 08, Did EI give people an actual start date?
Which then the prospective employees handed in their notice, Was talking to my mate yesterday who was telling me that their was lads who got direct entries into EI &BA only for the companies to withdraw the offer of employment.

Yes many people had a start date, I know of people who were due to start this week and it was cancelled a few days ago

Hey! Yes they had given start dates. They had also sent out training contracts to people, which automatically gives you a sense of security which therefore people had given notice & left jobs.
It’s a really sticky situation for everyone right now in all jobs, but I really do feel for the ones who had given notice & left jobs and now don’t have a leg to stand on.
We can all understand why our training was cancelled but it still doesn’t take away the worry some are facing right now!
Hopefully this will be over soon & fingers crossed they will give first refusal to us who have had our training cancelled but time will tell.
Hope everyone is doing okay I know it’s such a rough, worrying time x

Has anyone been paid the one week’s notice yet?

Sucks for you guys, hopefully things straighten themselves up quick enough in the coming months, though I am not hopeful, and you can take your jobs up riding round Europe / The World.

Hopefully they might recruit again before they end of this year and we may have some chance. Has anyone been told they’d be kept on file for the next recruitment?

Unfortunately I think the next recruitment drive could be a long way off. The recovery in aviation will be long and slow and will likely be years before we get back to what was until recently - normal traffic levels.

Hi has anyone received any contact from EI to see if they’re still interested in CC in 2022?

  • Registered Users Posts: 22 Coffeelock2020

They’ve a list of ex crew who they’ve let go they’ll be contacting first - might be another good while for anyone else

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭popers98

I was due to start in 2020 and it didn’t go ahead due to covid. I was contacted over the last couple of days wondering if I were still interested and available to start in the new yesr

  • Registered Users Posts: 37 Boeing651

Hi yes. I was contacted to see if still interested in the role for courses starting between jan and may 2022. No more info given just they’d be in touch in due course with next steps.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 Tiamcc

Hi, I was contacted too. They said they'd be in touch soon about training

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,504 ✭✭✭Jack1985

Great news! Best of luck in your training.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭popers98

A job post has gone live today for Aer Lingus cabin crew. Do you think those who got called will have to go through the process again?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

Sounds like that would defeat the purpose of them contacting you directly but maybe email to enquire!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,504 ✭✭✭Jack1985

Would definitely follow the above advice, you’ve gone through the process already and are needed. Gentle email to HR should see the process expedited for you, great to see hiring taking place again!

Not sure where you saw it, It says application process is currently closed on their website

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,611 ✭✭✭California Dreamer

What is the starting salary? Will they still get the same amount of people applying after so many retrained and got better jobs with better money in other industries?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

It was open for less than 24 hours which i assume means they were inundated with applications, hardly a surprise given the amount of people who’ve lost jobs in aviation the past two years

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

The job was advertised for less than a day, it originally said it would be open until the 10th of November but has been removed already. Was previously told before they’ll only look at the x amount first applicants and draw a line.

Basic salary details can be found in the Irish independent articles from this summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,502 ✭✭✭donkey balls

Not trying to derail the topic at hand but what you've mentioned with CC retraining and going to other industries.

I wonder would it be the same for other sectors like ground handling ops refueling cargo etc, I know that the likes of Pubs/restaurants and certain parts of the transport industries have lost staff and are struggling to re-employ or get new hires to work for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,611 ✭✭✭California Dreamer

I would have thought the wider airline industry would have problems getting new staff but as others have said the cabin crew portal was open for 1 day and they closed it. Probably a lot ex STK crew looking for work and some FR wanting to make the jump.

Apart from pilots, everyone else seems to be paid peanuts so no way management will want to increase wages regardless of a shortage of people. But as I have stated before, who wants to be accountable to anyone for €10.50 an hour?!!?

  • Registered Users Posts: 22 Coffeelock2020

    They’ve reposted the advertisement now

It was edited and fixed term contract was put in

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭popers98

Hi has anyone gotten a start date yet?

really disappointed with the lack of communication from the recruitment company having tried to contact them multiple times

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

Yeah I know 3/4 ex colleagues who’ve got course dates.

Are EI not doing the recruitment themselves these days?

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭popers98

I’ve gotten my start date already

The recruitment is now done through a recruitment agency called Nobox

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

The recruitment and vetting/background check process are now done by an agency. Nobox for cabin crew and Temple recruitment for ground staff. Interviews done by head office EI staff. Back to agency then for background checks and references

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

Have you rang them ? Might help! Worked for my friend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,502 ✭✭✭donkey balls

So EI have gone down the FR route using agencies, The downfall of many industries are the staff actually EI employed or on agency books.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

EI do the interviews and have the final say in who gets the job. The vetting/background checks are carried out by an agency.

All staff are trained by EI and directly employed.

    Hey,

I'm due to start my training on the 27th February. Anyone else starting that day?

Does anyone know how the rosters work?

I'm in two minds about starting to be honest. 2 years ago I would have jumped at the chance, but alot has changed since then.

I've been working in Contact Tracing for the last 18 months doing 10/ 12 hour shifts & I'm knackered! I'm also the other side of 40 now & beginning to wonder I'm a bit too old for a cabin crew lifestyle. I've been offered another job & it's Monday to Friday. My head is wrecked on what to do! One part of me wants to join AL cabin crew..it excites me & I know it's not the glamorous job that is sometimes painted when you hear about the cabin crew. But it's varied I suppose. Then the other part of me is (probably the older sensible part!) is maybe take the 9 to 5 job...weekends free..job security etc. And not that exciting!! I just don't want to regret not taking the Aer Lingus job because it probably won't happen again.

Contact Tracing is boring as hell but it's a handy number at the same time but I need to get out of it for my sanity.

Sorry for dumping all this here. I just need a bit of advice as I'm just all over the place about what to do. I got the email about uniform sizes yesterday & that got me excited 😆

I suppose for me it all boils down to the hours & roster. Someone was saying you could be working 6 days in a row. And newbies tend to get the raw end of the deal when coming to shift's which is fair enough. It is a total lifestyle change & I suppose I'm just realising that but I don't want to make a huge mistake by not taking it.. Confused.com🙄

Anyone else feeling the same?? I hope I'm not the only one😬😬👀

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

I think newbies do get the raw deal, it’s based on flying hours available and as a new crew member you’ll have none so you can be used a lot. If it’s something you want to experience and feel you’ll regret it then I’d say try it. 9-5 jobs will still be there if you don’t like it in a year.

I know a lady, definitely older than you! She flew in the early 90s for a few years, left it while raising a family… she still misses it and is going back this year. It’s not for everyone but some people certainly love it

  • Registered Users Posts: 98 ✭✭suzycat

    Hey.

Yeah I think I'll give it a go & see what happens!! Life is about having no regrets!!

My best friend (now deceased) was recruited at age 57 as cabin crew. He absolutely loved every single day he worked there and would never have said a bad word about the work. Sadly he was diagnosed with cancer and passed away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭popers98

    Hey,

Just wondering does anyone here know what size heel do most crew go for? The mid or high heel? Afraid to get the high heel if it’s too high? Anyone have any recommendations please?

    thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear about your best friend 🙏🙏

    Life is too short sometimes.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,187 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

I don’t think the high one is actually very high, also you don’t have to wear them all day as you may change to a flat shoe for onboard the flight

Hi, I totally know how u feel, its so scary but exciting too!!! I'm in exactly the same place as you. On the other side of 40 and doing this for the first time. Im looking at it like a whole new chapter about to start. It will be fantastic, your gonna learn new things and meet new people and if its not for you at least you've given it a go and You'll definitely have a friendly face to find you on your first day at the end of February as we have the same start date xx

  • Registered Users Posts: 100 ✭✭TheShepard

Do what your gut says. If you think you'll regret not taking the job well then I think you have your answer. IN saying all that I hope it works out for you regardless of what you choose, also age shouldn't have to play a role in my opinion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Chester100

Anyone know how many courses are planned & have they contacted everyone thats successful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 HappyFace22

I applied to the second round of EI cabin crew. Had my interview with Nobox last week. Does anyone know how long it was between doing their interview to being contacted for the height and reach?

    Thank you

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 HappyFace22

Yeah I am, I only had an interview last week so still waiting to hear. I think they're hiring a few groups but I'm not 100%
