A park bench in Bristol was given an official postal address so doctors could register the homeless as patients.

In 1911 The Rigby family included their cat Tom in their census form. 'Tom Cat' was listed as being an 8-year old, married Mouse-Catcher, Soloist and Thief with 16 children. His birthplace was listed as Cheshire and he was described as being 'speechless' in the infirmity section of the form. :)

Mozart has a pet starling (bird) which could sing part of his piano concerto in G Major. He had bought it from a shop after hearing it sing a phrase from a work he wrote six weeks previously, which had not yet been performed in public.

Something to make you lose even more of your faith in humanity: Louis Vuitton burn any excess stock at the end of each year to main exclusivity, theft and avoid discount prices.

    and

Something to restore it: there are 23 floating-year-round boat schools in Bangladesh due to constant flooding in the country. Starting in 2002, these schools ensure year-round education in a country where heavy monsoon rains can submerge 70% of the land mass under water.

In 1443, King Sejong single-handedly created Hangul, the Korean alphabet, in response to the immense difficulty that common people faced learning Chinese characters. The publication date of the document revealed in 1446 detailing the new alphabet is now a national holiday in both Koreas.

A 1000 year old bronze buckle from East Asia was discovered in Alaska, showing that indigenous people in North America might have been interacting with the Old World earlier than previously thought.

Sea snakes can die of thirst and rely on rainwater to make pools on the ocean surface in order to survive.

Sequoyah was a Cherokee who could neither read nor write or speak any other language.

But he recognised that literacy was useful. So rather than learn English he invented a new system for describing Cherokee syllables using new and borrowed letters and symbols.

It's mostly a failure on the behalf of whoever developed the software they're using not to consider edge cases. You expect that from student code, but it's pathetic in commercial software.

I doubt it's just a system weakness, I bet there's some obscure bye-law, maybe set to prevent undocumented immigrants. If you don't have an address you can't get an ID Card or a passport, etc.

It's Mau/Mao in Chinese too. Chairman Cat doesn't sound nearly so dastardly. :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

style. Beauty. Grace. That’s what matters. If cats looked like frogs we’d realize what nasty cruel little bastards they are.

Frogs are beautiful and cats are misunderstood.

The mao meaning cat has a different tone to the family. It's as distinct a word to the Chinese as a different vowel sound would be to us, Wubbs.

This Is A On Gate Blocking Road Access To Some Cell Towers.

    609bbd95233bf_6HPTHPW__700.jpg
You can open the gate by unlocking only one padlock. The way it's designed means that multiple people can use the gate, and if one person loses their keys, only their padlock needs replaced. As opposed to one padlock with many keys, you'd need to give tons of people the new key.

In the 90s fugazi played a gig at the friary hall in kilkenny, basically a bingo hall. It was phenomenal.
