Rygge is now a signifiant airfield for the RNoAF.

On another note, ARN is consistently the cheapest destination of the three capital cities that SAS fly to, and the least popular for "locals" to transit through.

Rygge was always a RNoAF airfield and they still own that whole chunk of land. They just leased out a small bit of it to a civilian operator to open & run Rygge Airport. Once you pushed off the terminal on your plane, you were on RNoAF's base, and using their runway :pac:

Compared to other Ryanair hubs I've been to, Rygge wasn't half bad and would sometimes be the option I'd go for to get back to DUB (if the price was right). The terminal is right on the side of the motorway meaning that bus would get you there from Oslo city fairly quickly (Nothing compared to the trip to "Oslo" Torp, and not that much longer than the trip to the main OSL airport)

But Oslo folk do tend to go for DY & SK, and sometimes Ryanair's prices were not that competitive really. I remember a couple of occasions where DY's price from OSL to DUB was good deal less than Ryanair's RYG to DUB. Rygge was mostly popular with people lived in the surrounding counties and towns of Moss, Fredrikstad & Sarpsborg. I guess that wasn't enough to coax Ryanair to stick with their base (and the mentioned taxes).

They are still in Norway though. They operate in "Oslo" Torp and also at OSL (some limited flights there).

EgyptAir starting Cairo direct 4 days a week over summer starting June 5th.

So I started a new thread four days back for announcements only, but it promptly dropped off the radar :)

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=112239307

FWIW, these flights are not loaded yet; as of the present no schedules have been announced. I could see myself using these flights if the times are sensible; it'll depend on what happens.

(Separately, I've noticed that Egyptair's booking site doesn't work in either Chrome or Safari. I wonder if they lose much business because of that...)

Are you sure? I've just tried on my phone (had been using the computer until now) and I can't select a departure city. It tells me to use a popup that never appears, and clicking on the plane icon next to the box gives me three empty popup menus.

Doubtful given Stobart own part of MME, they won't want to let the fox into the hen house.

    32.9 million pax in 2019!!

Technically, it has now exceeded the maximum capacity of 32 million pax that it has planning for!

What are the December figures? There was a slight decline in passenger numbers in November.

Based on my calculations 2.3 million travelled through the airport in December which was the same as December 2018. I'm happy to be corrected on that though. I'd expect figures for January and March to be down about 1% with February flat due to the leap year. Then growth again from April.

Great achievement for 2019. Onwards and upwards!

It's an achievement but the airport appears to be in flat line at the moment if no growth over 2 months.

Air traffic is down across Europe due to the collapse of certain airlines and the scaling back of flights at others.. Also the lack of Max aircraft in the skies is further hampering the ability of many airlines to grow.

Probably should be eight busiest from Saturday! ;)

as said, the max issues and delayed deliveries arent helping. Uk traffic was still up one percent last year... I expect similar % growth this year, assuming it was closer to 5% growth, than 4%?

That area of T1 is grim beyond belief; so anything at all to make it a bit livelier would be good.
