I do admittedly find it very, very funny that there are people out there still obsessing over two isolated videos of people playing games badly two and three years (respectively) after the fact.

That Cuphead one is pretty funny, although I don't know if you necessarily need to be "good" at a game to review it or voice an opinion on it but you should at least be competent enough to finish or complete most of it.

On Polygon's part is absolutely dreadful timing, given everything going on with them. Even I thought it was absolutely ridiculous they get someone with literally no experience in the genre to review a game, and then upload that god awful video as their review of the game. Within minutes it was clear the reviewer had never really played an FPS.

It was worse than when the Verge built a PC.

Fun fact: That video was not recorded by the person who wrote the review nor was it posted as a review of the game.

You'd think that piece of information would be as commonly known as the video itself but alas, it got lost in the maelstrom of snark which accompanied its release at the time.

Plus the game got a really, really positive review from the site, albeit being one of the few sites to call out (IMO 100% correctly) the game’s substantially weaker back half.

Yeah, the videos in both cases were done by the guy hired to do the video, not the guy hired to review games and have knowledge of them.

Ah yes! You are quite right, and I'll admit I'd totally spaced on it. It was still a terrible video though :pac:

I mean, she did release some really dodgy content, and certainly stretched the truth. It's a shame because the initial idea was really good, but it became clear she had a very determined view from the outset.

I completely agree actually, I think the content she produced was really poor and I'd love to have seen the same thing done by someone who knows what they're at and better still, who's got no knowledge or preconceptions of games. If the "Ethics in Games Journalism" crowd had left her alone instead of making her famous, she'd have faded into obscurity and would remain a non-entity.

Time to update the women-abuser list. Is it finally a gamergater? Oh no it seems to be... JR Honeycutt? Remember him? Tabletop games dev who encouraged and justified violence towards The Quartering (right after TQ was assaulted by a woke freak) because he's got the wrong opinions and his videos are too long or something.
Punching Jeremy Hambley (The Quatering) is also a thing you should do.
    Also JR
I apologise to Victoria [snip] and for other times I've hurt her and other women in my life.
Full apology as recommended by his therapist.

    In other news
an Overwatch player has been banned for saying "Ok man" to someone who does not identify as a man

    Twitter thread discussing it:

And Valve shows yet even more bias against visual novels with another banning

If that dude got banned for just saying "Ok man" then that's pretty harsh on Twitchs's part but Id imagine its easier to ban him than take the backlash they might get if they did nothing so its a smart move in a business sense.

No its not its daft, there will be back lash either way, they should just ignore it, as now they will have to entertain all dumb **** like that from now on :(

Its difficult to know which side will shout louder though, you could see how some could paint Twitch as anti-trans etc. That's not a group you want to get on the wrong side off.

Call me a pessimist (or conspiracy nut), but I always felt the outrage around her and Fem Freq was a little to convenient. It was absolutely pushed along side the whole GamerGate nonsense by the very same sites decrying the abuse.

That's not to say abuse was in totally fake or even called for, it was disgusting. Even as someone who largely disagreed with Anita, I was baffled by the abuse that was aimed at her and others.

I don't know, personally I feel the outrage and drama did a lot to boost the clicks for an awful lot of people earning ad money at that time.

If the stakes hadn't have been as high and the death threats so legitimate (as I remember, she had to move house and go into protected custody with the police because they thought the threats were credible), I'd be inclined to agree, but I feel like in this specific case, it was a lot more than "outrage advertising" (which is a term I've just made up for this sorta thing).

Having spent far too much time on /v/ back in the day, the first time I heard about tropes v women was on that site. It definitely snow balled because of the abuse and weird rape comments people were leaving on her page, but that was just the side effect of a bunch of maladjusted losers who are just too precious about their video games being criticised.

Not that Anita's methodologies were very good. They often took the trope and made some fairly contrived links between them and popular games. Tbh I'm not keen on the way 'tropes' are used as a blunt way to criticise media in general, it seems just as lazy as leaning on the tropes in the first place (piece of media has 'X', therefore is problematic). I think there's meaningful criticism that can be made towards her, but that doesn't excuse the horrible, personal abuse (which definitely happened, it's not some false flag made up ****. I saw it. Everyone saw it)

But I think it (TvW) helped spark a conversation that was badly needed in the medium and plenty of people have taken on that baton. Talking about diversity in games doesn't have to be this adversarial conversation. It just became like that because some people just attach far too much of their own identity to the stories and representations in the games they play and cant handle that being undermined for some reason, or make room for different types of experiences that don't match their own

Sarkeesians content was poor in my opinion as a lot of it really felt like it wasn't researched properly. The outrage from sad lads over it though was kind of mind blowing and creepy, really creepy.

Wouldn't be quick to believe any claims of harassment she makes since literally just sitting in front of her is enough to be considered harassment to her. She once grabbed a screenshot of a harassment tweet and reposed it as evidence within 3 minutes which to anyone who isn't a gullible knobhead can tell it was almost definitely posted by herself. Then there was the whole boogie thing where she bullied him because he didn't show enough guilt for being white. These progressive types eat each other.

She's had one persistent creeper on her thanks to gamergate setting up a harassment patrol to see who in fact was sending her crap. Turns out it was game journalist Sousas, some irrelevant brazilian di*khead. But leave it to the clique to misreport this to keep the narrative going.
To be fair though she did have child porn posted at her once. I wonder if it was Dan Olson again.

When all is said and done she's just some opportunistic feminist who doesn't even play games anyway. Just another dime a dozen freak invading this hobby to push their agenda and gain fame.

They remind me of the flat Earthers but have mainstream approval for some reason which makes them dangerous.

I've been reading comics for well over 30 years now. What's the problem?

I'd sure love to know what "invasion" took place in comics given that they've literally never been more popular...

Comicsgate - kinda like GamerGate, but where the proponents never even *pretended* to be about anything other than harassing women, minorities etc...

The secret invasion - when all the skrulls were pretending to be various superheroes?

Are you saying comics are now pandering to women and minorities now? Strange, I thought their demographic were young males. I wonder what changed.
