    Hi all,
    Im a carpenter and am looking into doing a project managment course in limerick, but dont know which course is best to get started and which ones have the better qualifications at the end of it.It would have to be evenings or part time. Also does a PM have to be concentrated on one particular industry or can you adapt to different areas of industry once you know your role as PM??Is there good job oppertunities from these courses?

    Any help would b appreciated.

    I also came on to post something similar. If anyone can help that would be much appreciated.

    Looking to do a part time PM course in Dublin but like the OP, unsure what to do and what is the better qualification on completion.

    Hiya,

    I am currently studying 2 courses in Project Management.
    The first course I found was on Springboard @ The Dublin Business School.

    These normally start in October and courses for 2013 should appear in early summer. Do search the site for courses that work for you.
    It is good, but we only have 2 classes a week with an exam in April and results in July. It is a long time to get a certificate, but worth it

    The 2nd course I found, only yesterday is run by FAS eCollege.

    So, I figure I can get a CAPM certificate in about 3 months.

    The Project Management Institute (PMI) who award the qualification.

    They set out the parameters for the Qualifications.
    So, for the CAPM it is 1500 hours of experience OR 23 Hours of PM education.
    They have other criteria for the PMI and PMP credentials.

    PM is a way of thinking. It makes you co-ordinate processes so a goal can be achieved and completed well.

    It shouldn't.

    What is as important as qualifications if not more so is proven experience as a project manager to be honest. That's in IT to be fair, but I imagine it's the same in other areas.

    Im currently pm my sisters house, but thats not a contract or anything, so how do you get experience when your starting out at it? qualifications first and then what?

    Try to get a role as a junior pm and move on from there.
