Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I like Ranelagh, if it weren’t for the traffic it would be brilliant.

    In this order:
    1. Howth - feels more like a little coastal fishing town than a city suburb. Amazing location and scenery.
    2. Ranelagh - so close to town, very intimate feel with great character.
    3. Chapelizod - nestled in the Liffey Valley beside the Phoenix Park, again an intimate village feel to it.
    4. Dalkey - Oozes character and a great coastal setting.

    5. Not a suburb proper as it is inside the canal ring but Stoneybatter is Dublin's inner city village. Has the feel of a rural market town at times. Indeed until the early 1970s it had a huge cattle market, animals paraded down Manor St, abbbatoirs and tanneries. Now of course super "hip."

I'm a big fan of the phoenix park.

Not a suburb as such but its a wonderful facility.

Ii love spending chill out time there

Fact: it's larger than Monaco, Vatican City, and five times as big as Hyde Park.

Drumcondra. Close to town, Croke Park and the Botanical Gardens. Lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants. A train station, a nice park and some great sports clubs. The men are that bit better looking and the women have bigger jabs than elsewhere.

Rathmines - walking distance to town. Loads of good pubs. On one of the busiest bus routes, with a luas stop close by too. Lidl, Aldi, Dunnes and Tesco. Two cinemas and a Swimming pool. I might be biased as I've lived here for ten years, but I love it. 😀

Nodding agreement with prev posts here, Ranelagh is excellent, quite central, great facilities, village atmosphere, decent architecture and super transport.
    But so much traffic!

Rathmines much the same and also shopping centre and a swimming pool.

But best of all is Blackrock, has almost everything including the beach.

Northside I don't know as well, possibly Howth or Stoneybatter. But Phibsborough has many loyal dwellers too.

    Mount Merrion

Commanding views over the city. Great on clear nights.

    Lovely houses

    Strong sense of community.

    Tree-lined avenues

All this is true, but loses one point for cr4p transport: you really need a car to live in this otherwise charming leafy suburb.

Do you? I mean the n11 bus corridor is literally a 5 minute walk away from it.

I’m very fortunate as the wall of the Phoenix Park is literally 30 feet away from where I live. :)

Why is the poll not public?

A longer walk than that, for an OAP: or there's the 47 which runs a few services middle of weekdays, or the N11 for town, etc. Or for any less-radial destination. It is awkward.

*what's your favourite place you could never afford to buy in because you're peasantry.

Seriously though, I don't know the southside very well so can't say much about it, but I think my very favourite is Howth, followed by Clontarf and Drumcondra.
If I'd move to Dublin and money wouldn't be an issue I'd probably choose Clontarf to live.

A fair point. That's one area that would do well with a load of Dutch style ebikes for a lot of the residents

Ranelagh as a place to visit

Dalkey is so distinct and ridiculously beautiful, almost feels like a different city to the rest of Dublin

Hmm... not sure if Howth should really be in there... feels like more of an adjacent location than a suburb to Dublin.

Don’t go blabbing to the internet about the blue light. It’s busy enough already.

Voted Raheny, but meant Kilbarrack. I love living here. Nice big house for an affordable mortgage, DART station on my doorstep, St. Annes Park, Dollymount. Great neighbours and can hear a pin drop at night.
