Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yes, it's so depressing that some guy off a radio station that nobody listens to anymore has suggested that a swearword should be censored from a song.

It's one of the most discussed stories in Ireland today. It is depressing.

What specifically is depressing about the idea of radio stations treating the word '******' the way Boards treats it?

I don't understand why this guy doesn't just play the censored version on his show, and let the rest of the world get on with their lives and listen to what they want to?

Who gives him the power to say what I can and can't listen to?

Sinatra worked into the 1990s and an average Yank tank at the time that song was written would dwarf your average car for the Irish market.

It’s as depressing as everything else this generation of over sensitive imbeciles seeks out for offence. It’s viewing entertainment from the past through their prism of “wokeness” and political correctness, and deciding for everyone else what is or isn’t offensive. The lot of them and their hyper inflated sensitivities can go and absolutely f*** themselves.

i love the song. have no idea who eoghan mcdermott is and refuse to google.

people will always call others names - no amount of pc crap or whinging will change that

How could an "invention" the "internet", which was once a thing of beauty.

Turn into a global megaphone for every fcking idiot on the planet who thinks they have something "edgy" to share.

Still a lot of money to be made for the person who comes up with the way to stab someone in the face over IP.

RTE only hire people with McDermott's world view. They have alienated anyone under the age of 40 who is not a far left lunatic and they will reap the benefits in the future when their ratings fall off a cliff.

But the big problem is, there are cases when people like him, once he gets a band of people behind him, then an Internet mob, they could force a song you like to stop getting played.

That does happen. For me, that's unacceptable. If gay people find the sing offensive then let them complain, but McDermott can f+@k off complaining on their behalf.

Can't be arsed trying to explain your ludicrous and irrational post? Can't blame you, tbh. Hope your Christmas hasn't been completely ruined by the devastating news that some lad off 2FM wants a swearword removed from a song.

It's funny how none of the people who get angry about the idea (literally just an idea) of a homophobic slur being censored will throw their toys out of the pram in response to your blatant censorship.

And this is just the start of the millennials gaining power. In 30 years the Dail will be full of them and the rest of us will be all serving life in prison for saying something in passing that was overheard by a professional offence inspector making us WORSE THAN HITLER!!!!

Posting on a forum doesn't quite hold the same importance to some people as the most revered Christmas song of all time. Funny innit.

However the mentality whereby anything at all we don't agree with should be met with outrage and ridicule seems to resonate with some people.

Would removing/muting one swearword ruin the... "most revered Christmas song of all time"? The argument that it's just a word cuts both ways. Words are cut from songs all the time and people tend not to get their underwear in a knot over it. Unless that word is their favourite part of the song. You know, the part that they get a kick out of singing loudest at the Christmas party.

Ya, but on this occasion the mob appear to be completely against him. Look at the replies on Twitter. I bet himself and that Stephen fella (whoever he is) were hedging their bets on the fact that their legion of Twitter followers would back them. Looks like that has backfired this time, just shows how much Fairytale means to people. Delighted

Just give over lad. People love the long. Let's just leave it as it is. I've never used the word in question as a derogatory term towards a gay person, I'm sure it's not nice when it happens to them. I've got a gay sister. I know how cutting it can be. But it's all about context. In this context its not hate filled nor was it used to even describe a gay person. It's just people looking for outrage whereever they can find it.
