Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was Kimi going too slow or Hamilton going too quick under vsc? Kimi lost nearly 2 seconds on Hamilton before pitstop.

Hamilton came flying out of pitlane there. Looked like he slightly overcooked it into turn 1

I think di resta made a good point tho. Bottas came into play if kimi pitted and we know how he likes to intervene in other people's races

Ferrari have to make a 1 stopper work now

    Hamilton 3.6 behind Kimi now

Hamilton seriously gaining on RAI. Going to be an interesting few laps.

    Hamilton about to get DRS...

If Hamilton outscores Vettel by 8 points today. Hamilton will still win the F1 WC if he get 2nd place behind Raikkonen.

I suppose all Hamilton has to do is wait for Kimi to pit if he can't just cruise past

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭CFlat

Kimi has to go in to the pits

Great camera work on the battle between Kimi and Hamilton. Loved the alternating onboard shots, the sense of speed from Hamilton's onboard through the 3,4,5 section was awesome

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,543 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Sainz has a 5 second penalty for gaining advantage on the 1st lap.

Hamilton is now in the lead. Raikkonen is now 5th. Vettel is now in 4th.

Kimi did extremely well to hold him for that long. Hopefully it counts for something

Disagree personally. Use of onboards annoying as makes it hard to see the 2 cars overall position in relation to the track so very hard to see if a move has stuck

Good for Force India, should give them an opportunity to squeeze another couple of points on Mclaren

Ferrari have to let Kimi by Vettel so he can win race.

Great work and strategy by Red Bull and Verstappen there.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    Assuming Hamiltons puts again

Verstappen is in the mix for the podium now, great work to make that undercut work

They need to use the movable cameras they use in indycar/Nascar.

Great move by Verstappen. He is now in for a shot at a podium.

Vettel is now in 5th. He is now on soft.

Be very surprised if Lewis has to pit again - can be very gentle on these tyres all the way to the end

Gap is at 17 seconds. Could be risky if tyres fall off cliff.

If its marginal as apparently pirelli think it is then i think he might put his championship hat on, pit again and have a go at the end but be happy with a solid podium

As long as he finishes ahead of vettel all is good. If he comes home second and vettel stays fifth he will be champion

LeClerc is now out of the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,394 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I think being the USA race Hamilton will want the win

Would be good if he had to pit again and pass on the track, but that might be difficult

    Kimi closing gap, backmarkers helping

Merc seem to be shítting the bed with Hamilton's strategy here. Too many laps left and he is Haemorrhaging time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

    Wow, Lewis' tyres are shagged.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Mercedes could blow this now. Too late to pit now.

But new ultrasoft versus used soft might do the trick

Be risky trying to pass Verstappen though if he pits. I think Hamilton will probably get by him and finish second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,543 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Raikkonen's gap in the race is now 10 seconds. Hamilton is probably going into the pits. His rear tyres are getting worn out.

So having only seen the od race here and there because most of them are on Sky Sports. Today the race is on 2 channels that I do have. Sky1 and Channel4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Dear racing gods. Please let Hamilton's rear tyres blow up

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,172 ✭✭✭EPAndlee

    This shall be interesting

Well that makes it more interesting

His rears were like melted cheese, they had to pit him again. This could be a cracking finish if he's determined to fight for the win

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,806 ✭✭✭CFlat

    This should be exciting.

You were saying? 18 laps on softs might not be enough.

Think max wants payback for his lost podium last year. Best race in a good while

    Come on Vet!!

Bottas is nearly a roadblock for all the other drivers at this stage .... letting Hamilton passed twice in one race ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,498 ✭✭✭Harika

If Hamilton catches verstappen and vettel stays fifth he will be champion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,543 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Hamilton is now 3rd after passing Bottas. Raikkonen is now in trouble with his soft tyres.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

    Hopefully Kimi's tyres can last!

  • Registered Users Posts: 81 ✭✭jaapbond

Would there be any chance of Hamilton being happy with 3rd and taking the championship or would he want to win at all costs ?

If it stays like that he would need to finish just once ahead of vettel to win the championship in the last three races.

Hamilton to finish second. Vettel in Forth. Everyone celebrates Kimis win. That's best scenario all round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 409 ✭✭strawdog

Think kimi needs max and lewis to squabble a while to take the heat off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,394 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

I'd say there's a high probability of somebody being a bit sulky on the podium ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Hamilton is going to win championship either way. Just let Kimi win!!!
