Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It seems a very selective boards policy - allow illegal stuff if it suits

I am pretty sure that using VPNs and fake library card numbers is not exactly legal - again - why not just torrent them or similar?

VPNs are completely legal, most people have library card numbers posting here just an odd person using the fake number but since anyone can easily get a Library card for free what difference does it make if they have one or just use the made up one.

Where would you torrent an Irish newspaper, I don’t believe there is any where to do so.

Yep. But the number of contributing newspapers have dropped ie Indo.

Then again, it's only the Indo.

Yep, per instructions at post 311 - was reading Indo on the website today using USA as VPN location in case it makes any difference.

    Thank you for sharing,

This is excellent, works fine with VPN via NZ

    .

I don't buy that its just the 'odd person'. The opening post encourages using a random number.

The difference is with how the newspapers can track the service users and work out how to monetise. Very few decent newspapers left and violating the terms of service (or content theft) is another (maybe small) blow to journalism.

My point about torrents - If I were to post about how to access usenet trackers or torrents to steal content as a 'bargain alert' - I would probably get banned.

There is a difference between accessing geo restricted content and downloading pirated material. Using PressReader to access the newspapers and magazines is legitimate. Using a VPN with the service is more of a grey area, but I’m not aware of any illegality. For example, there are various threads on boards showing people how to bypass geo restricted content (Netflix, Amazon, Nintendo).

Torrents generally come from an unverified source and so it cannot be determined if all of the content is legal.

I fully understand his point and he is right it is a double standard. Having said that the experience of using a vpn to then access the very poor viewer is such a crap experience IMO it won't be undercutting any monetised options. Great if you want to do it a couple times but nobody is cancelling their subscription to a physical paper over it

I’ve noticed that a lot of Irish newspapers have disappeared since I re-signed into my library account. Same for anyone else?

For sure slim pickings indeed now. Was getting used to reading the local paper where I'm from but it disappeared along with the test.

If you log out, download a VPN and activate, then sign back into your library or use press reader, papers should re appear,

I think a number of local newspapers have closed down in recent weeks. Maybe check the newspaper is still up and running?

Could be - times are tough.

I wonder if it's got anything to do with a decline in sales and advertising revenue?

Went into the library yesterday, connected to their Wi-Fi, downloaded the Indo and Sindo no problem, clicked the "auto download new issues" button while I was there and today's version of the Indo was sitting there this morning

This is how you have to do it now but it's only for 5 days. Once the 5 days are up you've to go back and login through the library WiFi again.

That's actually not too bad, I could easily pop by to the library once every 5 days just on the chance

Just did a test and it appears available and lets me download it (Cork City Library). There are a few options (Europe, Asia, North America), I just tested with Europe.

Out of interest, I also checked what Irish papers are left now. There are only 3:
Irish Daily Mirror, Irish Sunday Mirror and Sligo Weekender.

Using Hola as above, I got access to IT / Independent / Examiner etc also.
The didn't appear in the list of min-page display icons but were from the menu

Yes, parked outside Cabinteely library, logged into their wifi using my (valid) library details, Indo & Examiner appeared and downloaded, still downloading 4 days later. Waiting to verify if it stops after 5. At my first try at Stillorgan library, the wifi login page said my details had expired and needed to be renewed. After emailing Stillorgan library, they renewed it immediately and it worked next time. I hadn't used my card in person in a couple of years.

I didn't try the "hotspot" thing.

What part failed? Were you unable to logon to the wifi, or did you get onto the wifi but the Indo didn't appear in PressReader? If the latter, maybe kill PressReader before trying. When I was using a VPN, the Irish Times wouldn't appear unless I restarted PressReader after starting the VPN.

The Irish times appears to be intermediately available without VPN, must be a glitch.

The app certainly has some location tracking which appears to work even when you have not allowed it for the app.

It knew I had moved from Kerry to Dublin.

Huh? I don't have a paid Pressreader account.

    The steps are simple:
    - Load http://library.pressdisplay.com/pressdisplay/viewer.aspx on a desktop
    - Download Hola (free) and switch to an non-Irish country
    - Input 900000000 as your library card.
    - You have access to INM and Irish Times in the Ireland section.

Hi Guys is there any free VPN for the iPad ?

    Any response appreciated
