That's hilarious, did you record it by any chance?

No unfortunately not. At the time, it was only my third time playing so I thought winning would be a common occurrence...i haven't won since :o

Came 2nd and 3rd a bunch of times in squad games but the second win has eluded me.

Although I've got a lot better, i still have monumental F'ups. Last night for example (only 3 teams left); there is my team of 3 of us in a fort and a team of 2 that has just charged our fort and the 3rd team that is far away and out of the action.

The 2 enemies are charging us and trying to shoot down our fort. They blow a hole in the wall. My two teammates charge out, one gets killed instantly and the other teammate kills one of the other enemies and runs out after the other enemy. I start to revive my fallen teammate. As i'm reviving my teammate the other teammate is killed by the enemy. I'm hearing the footsteps of the enemy and it must have been 9.9 on the revive clock and i start to move early to get out my gun! Fcuk! I messed up the revive and i start again. I get to 3 seconds and the enemy comes around the corner so i pull my gun out and stop the revive. I hit the enemy a couple of times but he's got a shot gun. I'm dead and my team's dead. I damaged the enemy enough that the storm has just arrived and he's dead within seconds. The third team wins without having to lift a finger!

Two major f'ups! I stopped the revive probably 0.1 seconds too early, if i was able to revive the teammate we would have probably killed the enemy easily. The second f'up was not running out with the first teammate to kill the last enemy 2 v 1 and then just come back to revive the fallen teammate.

Still learning. This game is so much fun sometimes and other times its sends me into complete panic mode when you randomly get attacked or when it gets down to the last few people.

I've 18 solo wins. I've never played a squad or duo match. I've been playinng fps for 12+ years and I had a serious counter strike source addiction when I was a kid so my aim is pretty good but I'm not so fast with the building yet. Haven't played in a week or so must get back into it. It hasn't really hooked me like other shooter games have though.

Just back into gaming after many many years away. Prob close to 10. Never got into fps was always sports games or RPGs. I absolutely suck at fortnite but like the game. Think I'm at huge disadvantage from a) being so long away from consoles and b) not having played many shooters before. Have managed a few seconds mainly from playing stealthily. I'm a rivals dream for heads up. Can't shoot can't build :-)
Hey if anyone fancies carrying me on ps4 version my gamertag is celticbhoy27 (same as here). Could do with some pointers in duos or squads

Totally forgot to check if there was a Fortnite thread. I play regularly on PS4 with a friend. Usually as a duo but would be great to play as a squad.

Downloaded this last week. I'm pretty sh1t so i play squad games so the other teammates can carry me and it gives me time to practice and get better. Squad play is either great fun or extremely annoying depending on the team of randomers you get. If you end up with a good team and you last a long time and get down to the last handful of teams its good fun. If you end up with a sh1t team, you quickly find yourself on your own running up against squads of 4 and you are basically fcuked, you can't even get a kill because their teammates will just revive them after they kill you.

Funnily enough I won on my third time playing squad play in the most ridiculous way as i didn't have a clue how to play (i've never played first person shooters before not to mention battle royale-type games). Basically i landed with a very good team and the first time i died in this game, i thought it was over, i didn't even know teammates could revive me lol, they end up reviving me 2 more times. At one stage in the game, i was trapped on the bottom floor of a fort my guys had built and i didn't know how to get out. I was trapped for at least a few minutes while my teammates were in what appeared to be multiple battles. Eventually as the storm came, i figured out that i could use my pickaxe to smash through the walls.

Anyway the team survives to fight the only other team left despite carrying this idiot who has 0 kills, died 3 times and was trapped inside his own fort for a couple of minutes. All 3 teammates got out and charged at the opposition team (i follow a few seconds later as i had trouble jumping over a fence). Two teammates die but not after taking out all but one surviving enemy. So that leaves me and one teammate against one enemy. The teammate and enemy go at it, trading shots and i while standing still, miss every shot as the enemy guys jumps around. The enemy eventually kills my teammate and starts unloading on me, i get one fluky shot to land and i win! (i had only 10% energy left) My first ever kill and it won the squad match!

My favourite part of all this is you missing a fight after having an intense battle with a fence.

Used to be big into online gaming a couple of years back but found myself drifting away from it over the last number of years. Both myself a Playstation 4 two years ago, advice from a friend, and really had just been using it for Netflix after work.

When Fortnite started to be spread over social media I heard it was free. Then was in touch with some of my friends I used to play with and 4 of us downloaded the game and fell back into the occasional game. Now I was never a brilliant gamer but normally could have held my own, when I started off however I was awful. Couldn't hold my own at all.

With work can be hard to find time and for the first 2/3 weeks of casually playing every now and then I had failed to win any games. Came in top 3 a number of times but no good.

Closest we had come in that period was when I played squad with one of my friends. The two others in our team dropped to separate locations and got eliminated very early, so we thought we had no chance. Somehow found ourselves scraping any encounter we bumped into. We were running to stay out of the storm late in the game when we saw people building in front of us, I was sniping while my friend ran in shooting, and by God we won the encounter outnumbered 3 to 2.
Had a quick glance at the remaining players as the storm was closing in at this point, only 1 other person was left. Save to say we both couldn't believe our luck, we were looting the recently conquered team and laughing at the thought of this one person left hiding. We got sloppy. Up in the mountain beside us someone must have been watching our previous battle my friend was taken down with one shot. We we're stuck out in the open. He pipped me with a shot while I built around myself, I needed to bandage up. I could hear him building down to us closing in on the kill. I hadn't time to heal, got him with a shot before being blown apart. We were devastated.

During the snowstorms it was great. Played a lot with my friends. We've improved too. Not brilliant like some people here but got 3 wins last week which I was happy with. To be fair it's not even about the winning now for me. It's just great to be back playing and having fun with my friends who I used to play with. Especially now since I've moved abroad and don't see them in person as much.

May be a free game, but it's lit up the gaming flame in me again and helped me keep in touch with friends so it is definitely down as one of my favourites.

I think I've about 14 solo wins out of 190 matches and that's it. I've only played duos 3 times and a couple of dozen in squads but we've never quite made it there.

I need to start building more, but at the same time I get great satisfaction out of going full-on stealth and not giving my position away. That doesn't mean I spend all my time camping, I do like going into scraps, I just like the more stealthy strategic element of things.

I'd love if they introduced a game mode without the resource gathering and building, it think it would be interesting to see how things develop with that. That would likely mean that some parts of the map will be off limits, but if they could work around that it would make for a very different game.

I had one very quick game, it's a total turn around to how you usually play, you land where the team goes and hard to get a gun st the start. It was fun though, these temporary game modes are a great idea.

I played a few games of the new mode last night.

If you get a decent gun early and land with your team its pretty good.
I think the zone moves faster though

Yeah it's fun. Think they could do more to distinguish your team mates though the little green arrows over their heads are hard to make out at times. Thankfully there's no friendly fire

Yeah it’s near impossible to collaborate with your team. Only 2-3 people show up in your team similar to Squads and everyone else is given the green arrow.

I had a game where I was the last 1 of my team and the other team still had 15. They eventually got me as the circle shrank. 15 Lara Crofts running towards shooting and then all doing the loser dance. The only time I’ve lost where I’ve laughed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,330 ✭✭✭fixXxer

I've had this downloaded a while but only really gave it a proper go doing four player squad with a mate last night.

1st game landed in a prison, dead within 45 seconds.

2nd game landed in a Japanese garden dead in 120 seconds

The 3rd game we actually won. I couldn't believe it as we not only got separated from our team mates straight away but had spent a good chunk of the last part of the time building an elaborately fortified house with traps on top of a shopping centre that ended up in the dead zone as soon as the circle shrank :-/

While we were running from the storm we got caught in the open and shot by the last enemy team, leaving us crawling around like a mini human centipede while they danced. That was until our missing two squad mates appeared and killed the last of the enemy team, giving us victory :D

Bloody good laugh so it was, but the PS4 contols feel a little clunky. Must go on later and give the 20 vs 20 a go.

Man I love it when that happens! :D Even when it's not in squads it's a beautiful thing to witness... I was eliminated in solos, and the guy who killed me immediately started doing that annoying arm-swingy dance move thing, and about 2 seconds into his stupid dance he was one-shot killed by a sniper from 160 metres out.

Even though it was of absolutely no benefit to me, it was sweeter than if I'd had killed him myself. How I LOL'd! :D

First time i played it, i think nearly all 20 teammates landed in Retail Row. Heard a couple of gunshots in the first few minutes, then nothing for ages. Luckily we were in the center of the circle so we didn't have to move, so i spent my time gathering resources and building a giant for. After a few minutes my team had 17 people left and while there was only 7 enemies total left. A minute or two later, we won...i didn't see one enemy lol. Kinda of a weird first game so i didn't know what to think. After playing it a couple more times it became obvious that that scenario was the perfect scenario for an easy win.

One of the funniest things to happen because its very hard to distinguish who's on your team is that in one of my games when we had a squad of about 15 all bunched together. I noticed there was one guy without a green arrow in the middle of the squad. I trailed him for about a minute or two, he wasn't shooting anybody, he was just chopping down houses like the rest of us in the squad, moving with the squad, going in and out of forts so nonchalantly and just mimicking everything our squad was doing. It was hilarious that nobody noticed (or maybe they did notice but nobody had the heart to tell he can't be part of our squad). He was intermixed with or team for a least a minute or two before some insecure teammate who was probably jealous of our new friend, shotgunned him...bastard.

Overall i love the 20 squad game. Its a ton of fun if your terrible like me as you get to be way more aggressive attacking enemies as you know you have a giant squad to revive you so i get way more kills than in a regular game. Not to mention the giant battles can be madness.

What's interesting is that if you put your marker on the map first as you wait for the bus to take off, 90% of the time nearly all your teammates will follow your decision.

Sweet justice. There was a guy on my team who threw a gun on the ground for me as he had two and I had none. When I went over to get it he picked it up again and did the loser dance. :( I may or may not have accidently run past him later when he needed to be revived...

Yea that can happen unfortunately. We had a random. Not only did he Rob my scar from in front of me, he waited at every chest as teamates opened them and took best loot.
He was downed whilst acting the eegit so I built around him and built a ramp over him to keep him safe. So safe we forgot to revive him.

The 20 team game mode is gas craic, everyone just seems to gather round and mass destroy all standing buildings at the start of the round.

No if you're on the winning team, you get the win. Doesn't matter if you fire a single shot or not, you'll still get it.

When did you get those wins? There were days in December where the wins weren't counting for everyone. It happened also last month iirc. I had 2 wins last month that didn't count. Epic said they would add them later, but don't get your hopes up. The wins in December still have not been added to accounts.

No, not at all but the special modes do not count.

They've changed that a while ago. LTM wins now count as squad wins.

Looks like it's still not fixed. 4 wins over the past week. Only showing 1 in stats. Got a win today, yesterday, one at some stage during the week and one last weekend. Last weekend was 1st win ever and got the umbrella for it so I'm guessing that is the win registered in my stats. So possibly since then no wins have been registering.

Ninja averages about 70k a stream, the kid is mental at the game to be fair.

As far as I know the highest viewers for a single streamer was set by the doc a few weeks ago, that was at just under 400k.

Finally cleared out the first 3 weeks of challenges so I’m fresh for week 4.

Best way to get good at this game is kind of counter intuitive. You feel like you should learn to be stealthy and hide. In actual fact you should land in busy locations and fight.

Played 30 games in 1 night by landing in a hot location. Died lots (obviously!) but my ability to take out opponents sharpened fast. While I’ve had a couple of squad successes in the past I’ve never felt deserving as my kill ratio was low. Now I’ve a higher kill list per game.

Of course I’m probably preaching to the choir by saying this here! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭Joeseph Balls

I'm thinking the trap one will be hard. Best do it in solo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭jamescd

You should still be able to do the knock down trick in duo/squads for the trap kill I think. Knock down somebody with any gun (AR, shotgun, etc.), then build a 1x1 fort around him so he can't escape and then place a trap on the floor. I'm pretty sure the trap will activate and finish off the downed guy. That way you don't have to sit in a house praying somebody accidentally runs into your trap.

I got the pistol and crossbow kill challenges done that way. Knock somebody down with AR/shotgun, then finish them off with pistol or crossbow.

I heard after I completed the crossbow one that that works lol

just playing the game normally will complete the challenges i find, no real need to rush them unless you want something attainable that week but when you get the high tiers it's slow going gaining tiers through leveling

I never give a fcuk about challenges in games. Winning games is challenge enough for me! Only 19 wins in well over 300 games :( All solo though

Well, give the laws of probability, given other factors as equal, you're doing better than average, which theoretically is 3 wins out of 300. ;)

Thats the style of the game though. If you want realism, try PUBG. I quite enjoy both, but I find myself getting annoyed because im **** at building and it doesnt play out like a standard shooter.

I find that a lot of jumpers tend to whiff their shots anyway. I would say 6 or 7 out of 10 jumpers that I run into miss a few shots, which allows me to kill them first. Of course there also some people who headshot you twice in 2 shots while still jumping aroud, but thankfully I don't run into them that often.

In fact 2 days ago, I won a game because the guy jumped and whiffed his shot. It was 1v1 and I built a ramp up to the platform the guy was on. But my character got stuck on the base of the stairs that I just built. I tried jumping, moving forward and backward, but I just could not move. The guy looks down, aims his pump at me and hits me for 120 something damage. I was left with 38 HP.

At that point I gave up on moving and just fired back while standing completely still. Headshotted him with a tac for 90 something damage. The guy panics and jumps in the air, shoots his pump for a 2nd time and completely misses. I line up the shot while he's in midair and hit him for 64 damage, which kills him.

I was literally standing there motionless with 38 HP. It was probably harder to miss me than hit! The guy only had to hit me in the arm or something and I would have been dead. But because of the panic jump he completely whiffed his shot :pac:
