Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe I misinterpreted that comment, and maybe what I'm trying to say isn't getting across in text fully, but it seemed to me like there was a bit of snapping at anyone venting in the slightest at whats understandably a slightly frustrating situation.
I absolutely understand that things aren't under normal circumstances at the moment to say the very least! I'm fully aware that things beyond the control of Lenovo and UPS are impacting them, and I'm not blaming them!
But... it's still a very human reaction to be slightly frustrated/disappointed when you are told that what you were expecting to happen, will take longer, and that can then gets kicked down the road a few more times.
I won't drag this any further.

I think there is starting to be a bad trend of using the pandemic as an excuse for poor customer service. If there is a delay and this time it's on UPS part then fine, but an email to the customer explaining there is a delay and an apology I think would go a long way, not everyone is gonna be constantly checking a tracking number nor should they have to

Lenovo to their credit did advertise 2-3 weeks for the build and then apologized for the delay and the lack of in my case of a metal palm rest and compensated appropriately.

Everything is delayed though, in my job (I've been WFH throughout) all our orders with suppliers are delayed, especially the Chinese one's, nowt we can do about it, the whole pandemic has to be taken into consideration, it's not an excuse for poor CS, it's just a fact that things aren't operating how they should be for 90% of companies...

Not everything is delayed , I got next day delivery from lifestyle recently, I got 2 day delivery to parcel motel from amazon yet for some reason its taking 2 weeks to Ireland, and my point is not about delivery its about the lack of post purchase customer service, UPS need to be updating their customer about the constant delays, I have already had 3 different dates and no communication from UPS about it

So is this laptop just not available at all anymore regardless of the Discount? I can't seem to find it on the lenovo website.

Also, have people been paying Customs charges for these? What kind of prices have you been getting?

In fairness Lenovo handled this badly. As I said to them if they are having an issue with supply of a part I would happily take an alternative (plastic handrest). I got a terrible condescending response and they denied an issue. Eventually someone else with a more measured manner responded to me. Life went on

Then they admitted a lack of a part and offered a refund after the removal of funds and shipping of the product and gave a voucher code that doesn't work.
They should have admitted the supply issue before shipping.

UPS are a disaster, they gave numerous dates of delivery which never happened. They could have just been realistic from the start about the delivery date. Now the.package sat in Shanghai for 3 days after clearing customs. Then sat in Korea for two days. That is a disaster.
I have ordered plenty of stuff from Amazon, UK and Germany since this all started, they have all given realistic delivery dates and came on time.
AnPost have had slight delays, but again that is up front.
DPD have been rock solid for me here coming from England or Ireland there's been no delay. I know not everyone will have the same experience but this is mine.

People don't get annoyed if a company is transparent and practices acceptable customer service.
I don't know why people are defending huge companies over annoyances. People are not visciously attacking a small family business here.

    jesus lads

we know its a good deal. we ordered it.

lenovo noted a lengthy lead in time. we accepted that.

the dates kept hopping around right left and centre. annoying but not major.

    the units shipped. lovely.

since then, its arriving. its not arriving. the address is wrong (its right on the invoice). itll be three weeks. itll be today. now itll be friday.

your address wasnt complete and we couldnt get in touch with the driver all day to correct it. itll be tomorrow. or the day after. he didnt call your number when he was at the gate. we dont know why.

considering that if the ups man calls and i wasnt available to go out to get it its going back to the depot for another god knows how long, i dont think its at all fair to handwave away the above as "shrug, covid, quit whinging".

all lenovo/ups have to do is leave the dates blank until shipment/delivery is sure- instead its been a load of messing and ive been here two days going on three waiting on a delivery for no reason.

no excuse for any of that- busy means slow/delayed, fine, it doesnt mean "we have absolutely no idea what we're doing"

You could have always cancelled the order once the delivery was delayed.
When I ordered on 20/04/20 it was 2-3 weeks delivery.

After 8 days it was delayed.

After another 8 days the shipping date was brought forward to 08/05/20

On 08/05/20 it was delayed to 11/05/20

On 12/05/20 it was delayed to 18/05/20

On 20/05/20 it was delayed to 21/05/20

On 21/05/20 it was delayed to 25/05/20

On 22/05/20 it was shipped with an estimated delivery date of 26/05/20 as per UPS

On 25/05/20 UPS recalculated delivery as being 28/05/20

On 26/05/20 UPS removed any delivery estimate.

Not once was I presented with the information that delivery would be over 6 weeks. They kept inching up the delay by a few days at a time until it turned into 6 weeks. A decision on 20/04 of waiting 6 weeks is different from a decision on 11/05 when they promise it will ship in 1 more week.

Hi all, my laptop arrived today, I have installed my own version of windows 10 on it but for the life if me can't get it to connect to the internet, its telling me windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter, if you have an adapter you will need to reinstall the driver. I ve reinstalled the drivers, I've even reinstalled windows. Anyone encountering this problem, anyone able to help. I ve googled the life out of it and tried various fixes but no joy.

Look back through the thread, someone put up a link to download the WiFi driver that's needed. Download it to your phone or another PC and load onto laptop with usb cable or flash drive.

If you have a phone that isn’t an apple in the household , then connect it to the through usb using personal hotspot that will get you internet using mobile data.
Then go to the Lenovo site and download the driver for the WiFi card and that will sort that.

failing that, go into network & internet, status, and at the bottom of that page hit network reset, then restart the device.

that did the trick for me

folks, has anyone done any userbenchmark tests or anything? it might be good to compare- im a little disappointed in the gaming score i got, and id like to see whether i should just realign my expectations or whether i might need to go looking for more drivers (lenovo scan from upthread told me all were as they should be but im not convinced)

Thanks so much, sorted, I connected my phone, entered the serial number and downloaded the driver off the link here. Super, now when will I learn to start at boards for expertise rather than countless google searches. Thanks a million. I m delighted now.

You are comparing a laptop with integrated graphics to specialised gaming systems with dedicated cards though, so I wouldn't be too concerned. I have a few small criticisms: the buttons of the trackpad are a bit sh!t and my backspace is a bit mushy, it doesn't bottom out properly. I also notice dirt building up easily along the bottom frame of the screen. As it's a non-touch panel I wonder is there now a little extra space left over? An incredible laptop for the price though. The costs were saved in all the right places.

I think that's the difference in paying for no windows installed. You've the problem of not getting Windows with the optimum set of drivers included and instead have to deal with generic drivers

My Laptop arrived at lunch time yesterday!

Ordered: 12th May, expected delivery date more than 6 weeks.
    Shipped from factory 16th May.
    Arrived 28th May.

The laptop is a Ryzen 5, IPS, Windows preinstalled, 16MB, and better battery & charger. 128GB SSD +1000GB

My experience so far is all positive.

Have fully charged it once and used it for hours since, battery is still not gone flat. Seems to be very efficient at power use.
The set up took less than 20 minutes with no issues.
The IPS screen is wonderful, bright and clear, websites look much better than on my previous laptop (12 year old HP Pavillion).
I have not noticed any fan noise while charging or on battery, the laptop has only a bit of gentle heat from the base even after 3 hours non stop use.
Volume & quality of the sound from the speakers is very good.
One thing to noticed is that the SSD drive has only 75.5GB free space remaining after setup (I have not installed any additional software myself).
Keypad is very nice to use. All keys working well.
When the laptop is opened it powers on automatically and is ready to use very quickly.

All in all am very happy with my purchase.

Ideapad 3 Ryzen 14 now available with these new 4000 range chips https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/unidays-lenovo-newsletter-signup-ideapad-3-ryzen-4300u-8gb-128gb-1tb-3473393#comment-40909724

Is it worth waiting for the Ideapad 5 Ryzen 14? What would the difference be?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭Ryath

They're not a bad deal ~ €520 14" for €540 15.6" with 10% discount if you upgrade to 4500U, 8gb ram and IPS screen 15.6 has option of fingerprint scanner and bigger battery. No where near as good as the Ideapad 5 deal but saving €100 on OS was the big saving. No back-lit keyboard or USB C charging and battey is much lower capacity.

The 3 wont be quite as well built, will use cheaper components.

    https://www.lenovo.com/ie/en/laptops/ideapad/s-series/IdeaPad-3-14ARE05/p/81W3CTO1WWENIE0

Only played around with the ideapad 5 a bit last night but first impressions are very good. It's fast IPS screen is really good it's much better than an Acer 3 IPS laptop we have. It's very quick programs open near instantly. Keyboard is very nice, Well made no creaks and is pretty light for a 15.6.

I've been told 3 weeks ago that ideapad 5 will be available in 1 week. Yesterday I was told over the chat it will be 2 weeks.

There are barely any laptops available with ryzen 4000 series from any manufactures.

Plenty of articles on the internet how ryzen 4000 is Intel killer, yet you can't actually buy one.

Ryzen 4000 will be mainstream when intel 11th gen is out so I assume Intel with under preforming processors will not be overtaken.

I've new Dell laptop with i7-1065G7 and I find it to run quiet hot and wish I was not too late to grab this deal with AMD 4800U, but I wouldn't hold my breath until they are available again.

Interesting, thanks. Supply does seem to be an issue for now. Maybe demand has simply exceeded expectation and therefore supply or production capacity, but it is frustrating.

    Power up.
    Install windows.
Download network driver from Lenovo site to usb on other laptop.
    Install driver onto new Laptop.
Go to Lenovo site and auto-install drivers.
    Job done:)

Touchscreen is very good by the way, and the backlit KP is superb. Slight flex on the KB but easily overlooked at this price point. Battery (estimated) is superb. Very happy with this for sub €500
Next day...... get prompted to activate windows.

Forgot to buy a key. Doh!

Adverts for 7quid. Immediate activation. Sorted:)

I got a 10% discount for the delay. I ordered on the 26/04 and received it yesterday. It wasn't even really delayed as they shipped it after 20 days. I called their support number at 01 5628320, they asked for the order number and I told them that I was promised partial compensation due to the delay. Took about 10 mins from start to finish.

Its a very good laptop for the price of it. Touchscreen is good but I dont think the screen is that good - brightness and colour.

Screen brightness is set to 80% still my dell laptop screen is brighter at 40%.

Yeah, it’s a 300nit screen so not near the higher end machines in that area. That said. I’d say it’s Unlikely your dell is twice as bright, unless it’s a top of the range XPS or similar Which would be incomparable price-wise. I personally think the brightness is fine although I do have it Set at max.

If you go onto the AMD https://www.amd.com/en/support and download the graphics driver, it allows you to customise the display settings - makes a massive difference.

Once you download the driver from the link I posted, If you go to the start menu, you should now have a program installed called 'AMD Radeon Software'. Opening it will bring you to the homepage. In the top right corner, click on 'Settings', then 'Display'. It's here in the custom colour table you can make display changes.
I've attached what mine are as an example, you may hate it so play around with it to find what you like.

Its a dell latitude 7490, screen definitely twice as bright but so is the price.

By any chance is one of you Ray Charles and the other Stevie Wonder? How do you cope with the screen brightness so high? My eyes would be melted out of my head!

Such high nits are most useful for when using outdoors in the daytime. :)

Good waste of €7. Dont need a key.

Don't need one, but like myself, lots of people like being able to use things like small icons, custom backgrounds, and don't want a watermark on thier screens.

    Why?

You can use windows for free without a key and got almost toal functionality, you even get security updates, but you can't change backgrounds, can't use small taskbar icons, there are other minor limited functions, and there's a watermark in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Nope, I usually keep the brightness low when indoors. Keep it at 40% on dell but on Lenovo anything hardly visible at that. So have to keep it at 70-80%.

Bright screen is quite useful when you are using your laptop outside. Dim screen is very hard to see when you are out.
