Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just got the following message on my Publicjobs.ie portal from the PAS recruitment manager:

"I am pleased to inform you that you are being assigned as Information and Communications Technology (EO ICT) Specialist, Infrastructure and Operations, with the Department of Agriculture and the Marine – Co Laois.

The Department of Agriculture will contact you directly with regard to your appointment.

Please bring your relevant Academic Qualifications, Driving Licence and Passport with you, for verification, on the day that you take up duty for this post.

I wish you every success in your new position."

Do you guys think I could hand my notice in now or should I still hold out until someone from DAFM contacts me?

Depends on your notice period. If you want to start asap or you could wait till they contact you and arrange a start date with DAFM.

Did you get your starting pay confirmed or did they more than likely say they'll get it sorted after

My notice period is one month, I definitely don't want to start ASAP as I would like a two or three week gap in between as I have to relocate to the Irish Midlands from County Derry. The starting pay will get sorted afterwards but I think they will be able to take my many years of public service in the North into account so fingers crossed won't have to start at the very bottom of the scale at least.

I'd be onto DAFM straight away and get that sorted. What you think and what they think may not be the same thing, better to get it officially.
Were you planning on taking the position and then bringing it up?

Sorry, it was the 2019 competition I was asking about. Has there even been tests or interviews for 2020 yet?

Any tips on the interviews people, have one scheduled soon and includes both Infra and Networking , but was lucky to be placed well on the OOM
Will the interviews be based on the EO competencies or a technical interview? For any help or advice, thanks in advance

There was a position in Cork for 'ICT Specialist(GRADE V) Infrastructure' where you could apply directly.

Would this have been separate from the online competition? Would it be a more senior role?

If it quoted a grade in Roman numerals, it was for a public service position, possibly in a county council or the HSE. The grades, leave entitlements and salary are different in the public service compared to the civil service. This thread is for the civil service ICT Specialist competition, (Executive Officer ICT).

Interview last week, went ok, but got flustered on some of the technical questions, brain freeze 🀦*♂️
So I think I will be expecting the don't ring us, we'll ring you message in the new year from PAS, maybe next time 😀

I got placed in top 10 in Dublin and am starting in a few weeks.

I have tried each year since 2017 to get through this competition and always fall slightly short usually with situational judgement...can you tell how you managed to pass?

Hi there, any chance you could inform me on how the interview went. I was recently contacted for the 2nd batch of interviews from the comp last September. I'm aware of the EO competencies, but any specific area they seemed particularly interested in? Any help would be massively appreciated.

Yesterday I received an update on my publicjobs.ie profile informing me of my interview date for the week after next. It could be stream dependant (I'm in the Software Dev stream) so I'd say there'll be an update for you soon enough.

    Thanks a lot for your reply .. I am both in software development(rank 71) and infrastructure(rank 56)..
All the best for your upcoming interview.

Does anyone know what sort of technical questions are asked during the Infrastructure interview?

For my upcoming SW interview, I'm preparing a high-level overview of what I'd consider my best work to date. I doubt they will try and catch you out with specifics. I'd suggest knowing what you've worked on and have a conversation prepared for it. E.G. Overview, struggles, outcome/results. Not knowing a particular tool is not a bad thing either, just say how you'd approach learning it and give an example of where you applied that approach and how it worked.

Had mine on the 18th May, still waiting to hear back. Hoping it will be tomorrow as it's usually a Friday announcement. Otherwise next week.

Had mine around that time and got the results yesterday.

You should hear back within the month, IMO. 1 is the starting point, so 8 people will be placed before you.

I received my OOM. Anyone else receive their OOM? More importantly, does anyone have any idea how many positions they're looking to fill?

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭Hydration

    Hi,

I received my OOM also. Don't really know how many positions they are looking for but I am guessing they will call many off this panel. I know some departments have huge shortages of IT staff at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,182 ✭✭✭chrissb8

That's good to know thank you. I received an OOM of 21 so hopefully will be in the next few weeks hearing back.

    Hi,

I received an OOM of 54 will there chance to get call ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

I was racked 47. is there any chance of a call?

    Thanks all.

I know someone who got the Software Dev stream and was placed in a dept where he does absolutely nothing really IT related. They have him opening boxes and putting monitors on desks etc. The civil service is such a joke.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 sryan5966

Hi all, i just received my interview results. OOM place 8. What exactly does this mean? Also no mention of where i would be placed if excepted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭Hydration

Software or Infrastructure? Your OOM means Order of Merit. This means that there are 7 people ahead of you that will be offered a position before you. OOM 8 is really good. Congratulations.

Thanks Hydration. In Software. Any idea of a timeframe after receiving the OOM or is it just a waiting game now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭Hydration

I think its just a waiting game really but I would expect you to be called quick with an OOM of 8. The results were only released last week so I would expect you to be called very soon. Let us know if you hear anything.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 SVT

My EO ICT specialist software interview was on May 19th, 2021, and got an OOM 9.

Revenue offered me a position in July and I started in September.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

I have a 47 OOM, do you think I will be called?

  • Registered Users Posts: 20 alannm37

To everyone who has been placed in OOM, it is just a waiting period but all will be called for a position at some stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 sineadmcc1981

I emailed PAS today and they have reached 39 on the EO Dev panel

     Hi all,

Have questions relating to eo ict software development stream.

Do new entrants get trained into a specific area when they start?

Also are they working from home or in offices in general?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭scotchannie

Hey does anyone know what the salary scale is for the EO ICT specialist role is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 105 ✭✭Hydration

Same as normal EO scale. 31,698 first point on scale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭JoeSexton

Anyone else heard back about this? I was informed the other day that I'm 13th on the panel for the Software Development stream (HEO). No idea how many people they might be looking for...

  • Registered Users Posts: 156 ✭✭mtb_sends

When was this competition run and how long was the panel expected to last for? Any ideas when they might recruit for ICT Specialists at EO grade again?
