Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just checking around as my insurance is up next month. We changed to a diesel a few months back and now all the quotes are very high. Has anyone else experienced this with diesel?

I had a 2008 BMW 320d (2L diesel) last year and got a quote for renewal of about €1250. I happened to be looking at a 2008 325i (3L Petrol) so got a quote and RSA quoted €950.... never made sense to me as both cars were identical bar colour and engine. Only way i can explain it logically is a reputation some diesel models (golfs, passats, 320d's, etc) have with young lads?

No no claims bonus because of an accident or no ins in your own name ?.
Surely the names driver experience can be used ??

None in own name, lived abroad a few years ago. The three years named experience got me a quote but still dear. Without the second driver on the policy it would have been much dearer again

My insurance last year with Liberty was €1,000, got my renewal quote this week, €1,800!! No claims or penalty points or changes to my policy. Got a quote with liberty having my car at my home address in a different county to the one I currently live in and the premium was €800.

    Absolute madness :(

I have since gone to a broker and got a quote for €870 with axa, delighted!!

To illustrate the insanity of our system, my 23 year old daughter just got a quote.
    Brand new full license.
    No driving history
Car will be brand new Polo comfort line 60bhp
    €1437 Comp with AXA
I was quite €2,700 by Aviva for my car, 2005 Mercedes CL500
I'm 51, driving forever with no points or claims

They seem to be looking after new female drivers again. To add my missus onto my 530d was only €7, but bare in mind she only has her license a year and now only 1 years no claims

That's nothing to do with her gender. Pretty much every single insurer has an insured and spouse discount which is outweighing her lack of experience. If she was an experienced driver you would have been getting money back

I'm 100% certain it is, as I reversed the quote and to add me on was €750 bringing the total quote to twice the price of what I got it for :)

Just can't get anything sub €700.

    2012 BM 520d M Sport

    Licence: forever
    NCB: forever
    Points: none

Best so far is €722 with Allianz. Fully comp with all the bells and whistles. 123 (current insurer) sent me a renewal notice for €889. Ran an online quote and got it for €750. Surprise, surprise, on follow up call to them, they will match the €750:rolleyes:

    AIG - 1152
    AIB - 1012
    BOI - 735 / 800 for prestige

Just got my renewal letter in the post.

    29 years old
    10 years full license
    10 years ncb
    Ncb protected
    Fully comp

    152 VW CC R-line DSG 177 bhp

Last year it was €775 with Aviva and quoted me €602 this year

    Age:52
Car type and engine: 2013 Leaf
    years driving: 10+
    any claims:0
    Price and provider:€612 AA

    AA charged €498 last year
After seeing a increase of over 20% to €612 -- I said sod this
    And looked around
Best quotes being BOI and Zurich
Went back to AA and said I am not renewing and just send on the no claims form
After a bit of this and that
AA went down €150 --approx 20 euro more then the other 2
I am away for a few weeks so did not want to mess around too much

But saved 150 this time and next year will definitly move if not the lowest

Make sense of this for me!

Details: Male, 37, full licence 10+ years, NCB 10+ years, 0 points
    Car: 2004 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi

Got my renewal email from 123 which quoted me €811, fully comp, NCB protection, etc. which is about 30 quid cheaper than last year. I've been with them for many years, always found them to be very competitive with a high level of cover, but always go and do the usual shopping around online for other quotes, just in case. Most places coming in around the same price for similar level of cover, so was leaning towards just renewing again with 123.

Had a look through the renewal policy details and I see the vehicle value set at €5000, which is obviously ridiculously overvalued, so I went back on to 123.ie to get a new quote with the car value at €1000. This gave me a quote of €593. Result!

Then, just for the craic, I decided to get another new quote, but using all the same details as from my renewal quote, ie the car valued at €5000. This gave me a quote of €490!

So getting a new quote using exact same details, with the exact same company, somehow works out the best part of 50% cheaper compared to renewing my current policy. I'm totally baffled

You should bump the value up to €20,000 and you might get it cheaper again. When I was calling for quotes for my 2004 Corolla a few years back I was actively encouraged to bump up the value of the car considerably to get a lower premium. When I suggested I was doing the same to a guy doing the same the following year when calling for quotes he snapped the head of me.

The likes of 123.ie are cheap but will fleece you if you are making a change to your policy part way through. Also they definitely wouldn't be the best out there to be dealing with if your making a claim.

I'm currently with its4women but my renewal quote didn't arrive yet despite only 21 days left before my policy expires.

I was looking around for quotes and Liberty gave me the best quote. I ringed them and they knocked 50 euros off the price. I'm now happy with the quote but still curious to see its4women's renewal quote. I tried getting a new quote from them and the price was more expensive to what Liberty is offering me. I guess the renewal quote would be the same or renewals are generally cheaper compared to new quotes?
