Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Moral victories don’t count in the standings though so while it’s good to see the bears trying it doesn’t actually help the standings.

The jags rookie got his first TD.

    What’s the score now ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Atlanta will get the win but they made heavy going of it.

We had another possession with the score at 34-27 and 0:38 on the clock.

    Haunted again by clock management.

Atlanta should have buried us long ago.

You'd be furious as a Panthers fan having wasted > 30 seconds with two dump offs to Mike Davis for around 15 yards. Absolutely boneheaded.

Right switched to the chargers and raiders because I like justin Herbert and how he plays QB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    TD raiders.

    TD chargers.

Wow, some start from the new Dallas QB. Looks pretty good so far!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Pity that Dallas punt return didn't run for a TD, would've been an all-timer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

So the chargers will go to the half up 17-14. I missed the second chargers TD because my wifi had a moment and stopped but thanks to gamepass I was able to watch it. What is going on in Dallas ? I’ve not been watching it as I’m watching the chargers game but how are they leading ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

Defense has kept the Steelers in check for the most part, a long punt return led to one Dallas FG and a solid drive led to their TD.
Their new QB that played in the Alliance of American Football league, and acquired 2 weeks ago has been making some plays throwing and running.

I still expect Pittsburgh to make some adjustments and make things difficult for him in the 2nd though.

Steelers catch a break, miss the last second FG, get a false start penalty and make the kick from 5 yards further back!

Derek Carr - laying out for the first down - nice!

****e another TD for the silver and black. 28-17.

Herbert is such fun to watch.

    Great late window so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

TD chargers and Justin Herbert was a bit shaken up but is good. They missed the 2 point conversion with Tyrod Taylor in the game but justin Herbert is good to go.

    Great late window so far.

As I’m concentrating on one I’m kind of missing the other two games but the dolphins and Cardinals game looks like a great game and I might watch the condensed game on gamepass during the week. The steelers are four behind the cowboys and the chargers turned the ball over and the raiders are moving.

Hit the two minute warning in LA. Chargers down five and with a chance to come from behind and win a game.

I fancy the chargers to get the win here - they are moving the ball well.

    Some ending in LA

  • Registered Users Posts: 618 ✭✭✭Kev8360

    incomplete surely!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,085 ✭✭✭✭BonnieSituation

Criminal from the Raiders D to allow the same play practically 2 plays in a row.

    Poor Chargers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Well **** it anyway. I hate the whole control going to the ground part of the catch rule. Control and two feet down and that’s it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I feel so bad for Justin Herbert as he’s played brilliantly in his career so far and through no fault of his own he is playing on a 2-6 team.

It really feels very arbitrary sometimes. That was incomplete for me though.

Okay that was incomplete to you, and that’s fair enough yet the ravens get a INT earlier which was was a piss take and he barely held onto the ball, but it was argued he held onto the ball “long enough” by harbaugh. Why is there this time element to this ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Why are the Chicago Bears always so crap?? Even when they are winning they are always defensive and dull. They are one of the oldest teams in nfl but must be least successful with only 1 SB. I used to support them when I started watching in the early 90s but had to switch to the Green Bay Packers in the 00’s. Because the Bears are so crap.

Wow in Arizona, not often you see a kick come up short from 49 yards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,350 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

At least the cowboys will lose. At least the eagles bye week won’t leave me completely pissed off.

    I absolutely agree with you.

I would prefer a situation where the "to me" wasn't part of it.

Remember the catch rule issue for Pittsburgh v NE a few years back? Lots of those inconsistencies are bananas in a sport like this.

Yeah I remember that play and the outcry helped the eagles in the super bowl with a TD because the refs clearly were told to change the interpretation of the rule in the playoffs.

Ah, the ignore button, how I've missed our little meetings.

Okay I’m off but one last post about the catch rule. I’m sure I’m like many here who have read the nfl rule book, and at times I feel like I’m reading a legal document and not the rules of a sport. It’s written is such an overly complicated way that it loses something. I had a real life realisation of how overly complicated the rule is a few years ago when I was asked what a catch was by a newish nfl fan and apparently as a nearly two decades fan of the NFL it was assumed I’d know the rule, but I struggled to explain it in a way anyone would understand. It’s the catch rule not the third secret of Fatima lads.

It's amazing how much Michael Thomas means to the Saints Offense. There's always somebody open when he's in, it makes it so easy for Brees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

I never call games over in the 2nd quarter but this one is, and just as I'm typing it's a turnover. Saints 21 Bucs 0, Tom Brady is beaten by the clock. All old people go to Florida to retire.

I may regret this, but heading to bed at 28-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,946 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

28-0 now and still 8.45 left in the second.
Brady to this point is 4 of 12 for 27 yards and 1 int.

Brees 15 of 18 for 154 yards and 3 TDs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭MileHighGuy

I thinnk it safe to say this game over now, Buccs had a couple of chances to close the gap and blew both

Interesting throw from Brady for the interception there, very clever and very unselfish. 4th and 7, no one open so he threw a mini-hail mary. If caught a first down, if intercepted they gain a little field position. At least i think that is what happened. They not even bothering with replays at this point it seems!

    Brady getting swamped here :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

38 passes and 4 rushes from Tampa Bay, ridiculous lack of fight as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,946 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Bucs were lucky not to be beaten by the Giants last week. Daniel Jones making stupid decisions saved them.
I'm not sure they're all that.

NFL records; least amount of rushing attempts in a game 5, including a knee to end the game, by Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8th November 2020 Vs New Orleans Saints.

Longest streak by a player without being swept in a season by a divisional opponent, Tom Brady 2000-2019, broken 8th November 2020 with second loss to new Orleans Saints.

Every sport has a rule that has some stupid amount of details - the Offside and Handball rules in football have also gone beyond a joke , now no-one can explain either in plain english.

The catch rule is frustrating I agree for such a key part of the game and it does make it hard for new fans to understand what's going on. At least the US TV networks have made a better effort in recent years hiring on ex-refs to explain decisions that review looks at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,946 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I don't like the rule but it's pretty clear. I knew once I'd seen a replay that it wasn't a catch.
The issue I'd have is how it can be clearly seen at normal speed.
I looked at it in normal speed a couple of times and there's no way I could be certain about it.
In slow motion you can clearly see he loses control of it. As far as I'm aware all replays viewed by officials are done at game speed.

The difference he made was unreal. It looked like vintage Brees last night. Made such a difference.

I read the second record without "divisional first and I was all, "That's impressive" but then his divisional opponents for those years were mostly trash so it's less impressive.

The rushing attempts last night were even just 2 towards the end until Holl decided to go for a couple. Madness!
