Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have you ever seen a bird eat? Messy as sin.

Do you know the menu which you can chose from?

No. I just thought I would ask them what i should have?

And no I don't know how to use the multi quote feature. SUE ME.

    I have a job. -_-

And I probably earn more than you too! And I don't even NEED to work!

And the irony of you someone like you talking about etiquette.

Hmmm. Educated enough and soft skilled enough to achieve a good job but independently wealthy at the same time. An unlikely person to be uncomfortable in a classy establishment.

Heres a tip though, the truly independently wealthy don't give a shyte what fork to use and what topics of conversation may be taboo in polite company, the fine establishment needs such people far more than the other way round.

If you know my background and story you would get it. Not that i am like ROLLING in it. Just comfortable. I couldn't go wild with money etc.

Umkay! :) I will just be nice!

I thought the top establishments act like they don't need customers?

Portions are small but it’s still a struggle after the 15th course taster menu.

    Did you enjoy it? :)

Why not put her on ignore? She seems to overly bug you for no sane reason.

Money can’t buy grace and good manners. I expect you have both, so don’t blow it out of proportion.

Just order what you’d like from the menu, ask the waiter for a recommendation of a well suited wine, put the napkin on your lap and remember to rest your cutlery on the side of the plate, handles on the table and put your cutlery together on the plate when you’re done.

And your phone should remain silenced and never be in your hand at any point once you walk in the door if you can help it at all.

    Enjoy the evening.

There's different menus, Dinner, Tasting, Chefs, Friday Lunch, they are all different. If it is just you and one other on a Wednesday night, it's most likely the Dinner or Tasting menu. Tell us what you had and if it was any good ;)

    PRAISE THE LAWD!!!

Well I would just wear suit pants and shirt but not a tie, or nice jeans and a suit jacket with casual shirt. Dress shoes with both outfits. A dress for the ladies, if they wear dresses. Smart casual I think would be the way. Depends on the company on the night.

I wouldn't think about it too much. Wear what you are comfortable in. A lot of people who go to these places are in the same boat as you.

    What do I do?

    What do I wear?

Is it ok for me to ask the other person what I should order???

    How should I speak?

    I am most discombobulated !

There isn’t a formal dress code in Chapter One, but elegant casual would be the way to go - your favourite little black dress, some fine jewellery and not too heavy on the makeup.

It’s perfectly ok to ask the other person what to order, but you can also cast your eye over the menu here, plenty of variety -

    https://www.chapteronerestaurant.com/menus/four-course-dinner/

Speak as you normally would, it’s not that pretentious. I’ve got an accent somewhere between a bogger and a city knackcent, and as long as you’re not loud or drawing attention to yourself, you’ll be fine.

Lastly, speaking of not drawing attention to yourself, this is obvious for most people, but for Gods sake don’t go getting all affectionate with each other at the dining table. Save that for afters :D

Tasting menu is always good, if there's something you don't like someone else with you is bound to want it. If I just want a big feed that I already know I like I end up in Iskanders or Zaytoon.

You gotta watch them fancy restaurants they'll try and shaft you every time if they think you're an imposter

    You need to assert dominance.

Start with Gazpacho Soup - warn them that if it's not pipping hot you'll send it back

Steak Tartare - insist on getting it rare, not medium rare. very important.

now that you've established control let the waiter recommend the wine , agree sagely , but demand that it's corked , after all half the fun is uncorking it

I am more worried about covering up the fact that our HR director is acting head of sales right now and we have no idea what we are doing.

But maybe this will help distract them!

Reminds me of the time the wife sat for ten minutes wondering what to choose from the menu.

Eventually I had to step in and select, "Play Movie."

Does it take that long to decide between the 7 inch and the nine inch pizza with pineapple toppings?

Smart casual, if the person/people you're dining with are familiar with the restaurant then by all means ask for recommendations, its not considered rude not to adhere to these recommondations, especially if you're eating with a party of three or more. Speak the way you always speak, but be mindful of other diners. I.e, if you've a large hearty booming voice consider toning it down a bit. This is just a suggestion, if yer in good form don't let me dampen your evening. Its the height of importance to be especially nice to front of house staff. They are the ones who can make the difference between a potentially great night out or a pricey, damp squib.
If however all these efforts on your behalf fall flat, and food and service are sub par, then its acceptable to defecate in the sink. Staff will take no offence, as its a subtle hint for them to smile a little more the following evening. Worst kept secret in the industry. Have a shyte in the sink and you'll be treated like a god if you darken the door again. Trust me.
