My first shout for a name on the EP2020 line-up: FKA Twigs

Festival Republic love to rebook previous visitors, she's played EA before and starting to tour a new album shortly. Got to be in the running for 2020.

Has anyone had any success getting a stove or gel type burner in. This year I was in pink moon, tried to nab water from podpad area but it was closed. Queue in cracked pepper was mental. Had to trek out into main arena to find coffee as the paintball place was also closed. Would love to be able to just boil a pot of water.. I know they say no gas but I have seen ones that burn a gel fluid but would have no idea of they are any good!!!
I brought a spirit stove and methylated spirits into Pink Moon last year, was able to boil water for coffee. Took about 25min. It's grand, easy to hide under a camping chair so security don't see. Brought it to Eco this year, but coffee was quicker to get from stall so didn't bother with it

    And we're off!

LCD Soundsystem have no gigs announced for 2020. I thus see that as a nice-sized EP hole in their calendar.

Any of TCM Collective interested in a music whatsapp group for the year to discover new music via each others great taste ('music nerds' was the term Mrs B used) ?

PM if you are and I'll get one setup next week. Mute the notifications for a year and there'll be no incessant pinging!

No offence taken if you're not. I still love yis

I am interested in the idea Busher but hate WhatsApp for its incessant distracting messages. Why not instead use this thread for that purpose as we did last year? Any new music we discovered last year, or decent live gigs we attended fitted in with this thread as they were acts we'd have liked to have seen at EP. It was a more general music thread last year than ever. And all the better for it.

And if the WhatsApp group goes ahead good luck with it. I'd probably have to bite my tongue and join!

Anyone ever risk the single skin two man Tipi thing and did it let in rain? Add in the end-of-a-long-season to that and I'm thinking they could be ****e!
    t?
We did Pink Moon in a two man Tipi for three years. I can say honestly that we never had a leak. There would be condensation on the inside in the morning but I never seen a pool of water anywhere. As has been said before, don't push anything up against the sides as this stops the rain running off and just have a quick Check thst the ropes are taught and secure. We had a few nights of rain, most notably two years ago on the sat night, it was torrential!

Given it's Glasto 50 I wonder will we see one or two "legends" type acts at EP next year.

The Who did a one off massive show with orchestra at Wembley in July. Pete Townshend said they'll be touring that same show next summer.

Not sure that would suit EP, I'd love to see it but really don't think it's a festival type of setup.

    Could see McCartney headlining Glastonbury

He may do the Sun afternoon set, as big now as a headline slot. Fleetwood Mac will be the biggie, Coldplay again & The 1975 other possibilities.

Just as an aside, if there are any Cathy Davey fans out there who, like me, missed her the last 2 years in Stradbally because of her late Sunday night billing, she's playing October 26th in St. David's church Naas. Lovely, intimate setting.

Yeah I caught a few of her songs. Usually she doesn't do anything for me, but even so I think her set suffered from the crowd looking for later drink at the SD bar, which was thronged. They were just throwing out cans at that stage....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,637 ✭✭✭Mollyb60

Yeah she did a great set at SD even though she appeared to be sick. She cancelled a talk with Neil Hannon (not tennent doh!) in Mindfield earlier in the day I think which is maybe what caused the confusion.

Was emailing them yesterday because they made the mistake with my loyalty code.

    I have the disappointment.

Sorry to harp on about this, but I got a reply to my query today which makes me angry. It's as though Ticketmaster are really revelling in the fact that it sold out and that not all the loyalty purchasers got their tickets:
Tickets for Electric Picnic 2020 went on sale at 9am and have been snapped up in less than an hour, taking organisers by surprise.

Such is the demand for tickets that all Early Bird, Loyalty Tickets, Family Camping, Family Campervan and Campervan tickets have already SOLD OUT.

Picnickers snapped up the early bird tickets within one hour of going on sale this morning, yet again demonstrating the unwavering popularity of Ireland’s favourite music and arts festival – Electric Picnic.

‘Fans of Electric Picnic are a very loyal bunch and with it being a sold out festival this year, fans were even more eager than usual to snap up tickets. Ticket sales were due to end on 29th September but sold out before the deadline, as the Picnic continues to grow, so too does the number of loyal Picnickers that want to come back year after year.’ Melvin Benn, Festival Director
For fans of the festival who missed out on tickets today as they will have the opportunity to purchase tickets when they go back on sale, date yet tbc.

Electric Picnic is a STRICTLY OVER 18’s event, with the exception of children aged 12 and under who must be accompanied at all times by an adult. For more information on our age policy, check out our website.

    Subject to licence.

Please note: All sales are final. Loyalty discounts cannot be applied to your order.

Headlining makes sense but Emily Eavis dropped a hint about him doing the big legends slot. Unlikely they'd have both Fleetwood Mac and McCartney as headliners, just skews the festival far much to heritage stuff.

That afternoon slot often gets bigger crowds than any of the headliners. Dolly Parton there in 2014 was the biggest crowd I've ever seen at the Pyramid Stage in over thirty years of going there.

Ok, so today it’s all a bit ‘this time last week I was blah blah’ (insert whatever eye of the hurricane I was caught up in at 15:53 last Sunday here) but the Santa wish lists are making me fluttery for next year. With that in mind...I’ve been an awfully good boy in the main and as highly unlikely any of these acts are to grace EP, I would like to see (and any single one would do)

Heavy Trash (failing a Jon Spencer Blues Explosion reboot)
    Wilco
    Mariachi El Bronx
    Melvins
    James Leg
    Barrance Whitfield and the Savages
    Iggy Pop
    Meatbodies
    Ty Segall (in whatever manifestation)
Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs
    Todd Rundgren

But with a bit of sorcery...perhaps
    Fugazi & My Bloody Valentine

    Let a boy dream...

Ha ha. Yeah, that jarred with the rest though I'd have him ahead of much of what we've had in the last three years.

    My apllication:

    LCD Soundsystem
    Wilco
    My Bloody Valentine
    The Human League
    Fontaines DC
    Snapped Ankles
    The Selecter
    The Murder Capital
    Leftfield
    Aphex Twin
    SLF
    The Walker Roaders
    Supergrass
    The Kinks
    Kokoko
    Edwyn Collins
    Young Fathers
    Kila
    Seamus Fogarty
    Green on Red
    Tamino
    Slyrydes
.... and a few dozen more.

And since teen pop is guaranteed how about Camilla Cabello & Lorde?

What about a Boardsie buyout of EP?

Fair point , tbh the only way they will get Fleetwood Mac is if they reduce their asking price, Pretty sure Micheal Eavis has said the only reason they havent been booked for Glasto is because if their price.

If they got McCartney as the legends slot that would be huge , Yea i agree that slot usually gets massive crowds. Plus it will be a such a small set for Paul (since he usually does 2/2.5hr sets, well he did that last time at the RDS) because of his back catalog.

Although with it being the 50th anniversary they might want to go with the biggest headliners they can go with , E.g. Fleetwod and McCartney

The Delines would be a big hope for me next year. Americana not out in great force this year and hopefully that changes in 2020. They're basically Richmond Fontaine with a female singer and have made, for me, easily the best album of 2019. They've been here twice this year including at the Kilkenny Roots festival and are back for three gigs next month including Sligo Arts Fest. Superb when I saw them in Jan and they'd be fab at EP. Alas the stage they're most suited to is the defunct Other Voices one.

Yes! Agree with all of this! There is some decent trad in Hazelwood but I feel a lot of people miss out on it because it's a bit out of the way. And it's contending with all the other options out there. With regards to acts, why not throw in Paul Brady in there too? Perfect folk contemporary type crossover artist. Hearing Crazy Dreams or Nothing but the same old story played live would be tough to beat!

A great call. Played in 2010 but didn't see him. Time for another visit.

And not quite trad but Freddie White is back living in Ireland (Clare I think) after years in Sydney and New York. Gigging again and sounding good.

I've been depressed all weekend due to being too slow on getting campervan ticket Saturday morning.

I know I will probably (95% certain) get one the week before at pretty much face value, but it just gets me down. Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

    :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,501 ✭✭✭PabloAndRoy

I am going to bloody scream.:mad:

I asked a family member to log onto my account this morning and purchase 2 tickets for me using my loyalty code and pay for the early bird rate for 2 others on my card if she needed to get 2 for herself.
She tells me you wont believe it but I got 4 using your loyalty code.
    Alarm bells are now ringing!

I log in at 4pm and see I have 4 early birds tickets at €210 instead of 2 at €185.
is there any chance ticketmaster will refund me the €50 I am down.

On the bright side they probably would all have been gone if I didn't get her to log in for me.

I will take 2 early birds at face value if you still have them.

I like my Americana and saw them at Kilkenny roots (minus Willy) very good indeed.

I'd love some more soul acts next year like Durand Jones, Lee fields, black pumas etc.
