Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It would be good if icbf were able to pull forward the Oct proof by a week or so as might help anyone that might be short one or two animals to Buy the animal required to meet scheme targets

Maybe that’s why it was moved

I see the July proof is put to 4th August

No doubt the Coronavirus will be blamed for the postponement.

I see that the department have extended the 31th October deadline for qualifying for the BDGP to when the November run of ICBF figures come out.

A bit puzzled by this - When I search a cow or heifer on www.icbf.com on the laptop, I can only see the animals Replacement Index. When I look on my mobile phone, I can see both the Replacement and Terminal indices. Why is this?

I'm in the BDGP scheme, so I can search females on ICBF.

New proofs comming Tuesday maby that could be something to do with it

  • Registered Users Posts: 330 ✭✭GiantPencil

New proofs are out, I still see Female's not showing their terminal in the desktop app but showing it on th phone app. Salers are the top 4 for replacement, Ulsan being #1 now. Don't see much change on the Terminal side, lots of familiar names in the top 5 there that were there last update.

I have a pedigree Lim yearling bull here, who has now jumped up to 4 stars from 3. He's a fine looking bull. Would it be worth my while getting him Genomic tested?
If the scheme is going to end, is there any point?
If I test him now, won't it be 2 months before the results can be seen.

I expect we will see some version of the scheme in future.. with 5 stars farting less than 1star etc

I had a quick look on ICBF and lim society page, but they don’t look to be updated, I’ll look at the detailed ICBF page tomorrow.

I see the €38,00 Limousin bull Goldies Jackpot, now scores in the bottom 1% for functionality. He's also in the bottom 1% for calving. Dear, oh dear!!!!!!!

Anyone calves from goldies. How they turn out. Hard calving? I dont see him listed on progressive website anymore

How long does it normally take to go from Sire Verified to the full genomic evaluation? I've a lad interested in a weanling bull here.

Anybody else annoyed with the lack of a suckler cow report for over a year?

A far more useful report than the Eurostar report

You can generate a new suckler cow report on the icbf website whenever you want

Can you. I’d that on desktop because I couldn’t see an option on phone

    The phone apps are limited
ICBF needs you to use a computer, the phone is more for taking a quick glance

If your on the phone icbf, there is an option to pick 'desk top' version. That will show more extra bits, like bdgp. Dunno why they can't do it outright on phone without messing like that, but anyway

Interestingly one of my 2/3 star (varies between both over last 2 years) has now jumped to a 4 star. Looking through her figures to understand why as rarely i have this big of a jump, there has being a massive jump in her milk figures, calving interval and survival. She's not genotyped yet so will be interesting to see if that changes it again under the SCEP.

My best cow on the farm but worst under Stars with 2, has her calf again this year at 1.5kg a day, good bag of milk (negative under Stars) and calving interval at 366. Strange.

I’m not the biggest fan of the icbf star rating but if u take an example of one cow of course there is going to be outliers. If you have a herd of 5 star cows ,they will outperform a herd of 1 or 2 star cows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,077 ✭✭✭Hard Knocks

I think breeding (matching bull traits to the cow) gives better results. I don’t see the benefit in a 5 star terminal bull over a 3 star terminal either.
