Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    1986 finds M 177 in Ballaghadereen with a service to Sligo.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1972. It became a school bus for Bus Eireann in 1988 and was withdrawn in 2001. It has since been preserved, and is currently in the livery seen here.

    Expressway still serve this Roscommon town with route 22 which runs between Dublin and Ballina.

    1986 finds KR 129 parked at the bus and railway station in Galway. This bus was new to CIE in 1985. It was withdrawn by Bus Eireann in the early-2000s.

    It's a rare visit to Dublin for this week's Provincial Past. 1989 finds LVH 28 parked at "The Ramp' at Connolly Station.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1970. It was one of 10 LVHs (LVH 24-33) delivered to CIE in 1970, while LVH 34 - 46 were rebuilt from other coaches. LVH 28 was withdrawn by Bus Eireann in 1992, spending its final years as a school bus.

    2006 finds DWR 002 at the bus station in Drogheda, dressed for route 189.

    DWR 002 was delivered new to Bus Eireann in 2001. It and DWR 001 spent all their lives in Drogheda, and were withdrawn in late-2009. DWR 002 was sold on to an operator in the United Kingdom.

    Route 189 ran between Drogheda, Clogher and Grangebellew. It was absorbed into route 168 in November 2020.

    1987 finds KD 190 at the bus and railway station in Galway with a service to Limerick.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1982, initially allocated to Limerick where it mainly ran services between the city and Shannon Airport. Within a year of this photograph being taken the bus had moved to Cork. It spent the rest of its career there, and was withdrawn by Bus Eireann in the late-1990s.

    Bus Eireann still run services between Galway and Limerick today with Expressway routes 51 / X51.

    1989 finds M 202 at Wexford Station, with a service to Waterford.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1972. It received a DAF engine in 1979, becoming MD 202. In 1991 it joined the Bus Eireann school fleet and was withdrawn in 1995.

    Expressway route 40 still connects Wexford with Waterford today.

    1986 finds KR 59 at the bus and railway station in Sligo.
    This bus was new to CIE in 1985. Between 1996 and 1998 it joined the Bus Eireann school bus fleet, and was withdrawn after 2004. For most of its career it was primarily based in Donegal.

    Bus Eireann routes 64 and 480 still connect Sligo with Ballybofey.

    A visit to the capital this week. 1984 finds C 267 parked outside Bus Aras on Store Street. This bus was new to CIE in 1968. It was withdrawn in 1985 and scrapped in 1987.

    Bus Eireann still connects Dublin with Drogheda via route 101.

    1987 finds M 180 in Ballyshannon.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1972. It joined the Bus EIreann school fleet in 1989 and was withdrawn in 1999. It spent all its life in Donegal.

    The bus has a paper destination for Bundoran via Donegal. These places are still connected today to Ballyshannon through Bus Eireann Expressway route 64 and regular route 480.

    1985 finds M 191 parked at the station in Killarney.

    This bus was new to CIE in 1972. It was withdrawn by Bus Eireann around 1990 and sold on to the Irish Army.

    The bus is dressed for Cork. Bus EIreann still connect Killarney with Cork through Expressway route 40.
