Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This exact topic must come up on a fortnightly basis at this stage.

I'll polish off 4 pallets of Beamish and a crate or two of Bushmills every week if I'm going well.

Bit less during the summer, usually.

I would have a shoulder of vodka once a week

It’s easier for me to say how many units a year I drink....12 to 20.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 32,688 ✭✭✭✭ytpe2r5bxkn0c1

It'll be a sad day when I start counting units. A few G&Ts or a brandy per week at home. No two weeks would be the same. A red wine or three now and again.

    Anyone else a nightly drinker?

I crack open a bottle of wine most nights to chill out, and even though I know it’s not the healthiest of habits to have I just love a good drink..

Or just divide that number by 52 to give a weekly unit. Not too complicated...

I’d only drink (binge drink) 3 or 4 times a month, I would usually have atleast two naggins or sometimes I’ll have a naggin and six cans, I’d never drink on my own though, that’s just sad

none most weeks , then maybe 4 or 5 pints if I take a fancy . Really enjoy a few when i get em

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,262 ✭✭✭✭Autosport

    None as I don't drink alcohol :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,073 ✭✭✭Rubberlegs

I would drink a bottle of wine a week but over 2 or 3 nights. I'd rarely drink more than that.

A number of years back for the duration of about 2 years I'd finish a six pack per night at home.
    It was a real habit.
Circumstances changed and I just stopped doing it.

Now based on another posters and use to divide by 52 my weekly consumption is not a whole number.

When I am on the ground after pissing in my pants and choking on my own vomit I know its time to give up the units and go on the shorts

Zero units so far in 2018 ... I'm a recovering alcoholic. Must actually add up how many units I'd have drank a week back when was drinking alcoholically ... I'm amazed I still have a liver. :o

Why do you care how much I drink ?

It’s got nothing to do with you.

    Or the state.

why is it sad? do you ever eat on your own? or drink a cola on your own?

i occasionally like to have a beer at home at the end of the week.....when kids are in bed... watching tv with the missus. she doesn't drink so i'm drinking on my own.

i like the taste of a nice cold beer at the end of a long hard week. dont need to be going out for a night out to have one.

0 a week. Maybe a very rare beer once a year.

Think I’ve had about 3 drinks in 5 years.

On average, maybe a bottle of beer Sun - Thurs. And then a bottle of wine over a Friday / Saturday.

Not mad by any means.. and then a sesh with work probably once a month.

Alcohol is the most overhyped business product in this country.

I really wish Irish people would grow up and stop this retarded romanticisation of a drug which causes enormous damage to communities and families across this island.

Used do that myself religiously. Can't beat a bit of chat and a pint. I'd have a whiskey most nights to settle down for the day.

Yeah ... about 3 bottles of wine a day, and if you're drinking that heavily, it's not even like you can take a day off here or there or you get the DTs. And they're ZERO fun.

True but drink causes a huge amount of damage. Huge amount. However prohibition failed and would fail again unless you shot people dead for drinking.

80 units is like 5 or 6 pints Monday-Friday- Friday, 10 pints Saturday.

I know people who drink at least 200 units a week. U notice it a lot more in the country pubs than citiy pubs.

    Its not that much.

    That's just your opinion.

I love drinking alone with Lyric FM on beside me and a good book.

If I'm in the mood for something to eat I'll take my book to my local for a few scoops and a bowl of hot chicken wings and a basket of chips.

After 25 years nixxering as a bouncer and barman this is pure paradise for me.

Theres nothing wrong with nightly drinking so long as its 3-4 units, its the amount that is bad not how often or when you drink alcohol!
