Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Easy to see looking at the Sat 24 imagery as to why they are calling this a 'conveyor belt' type rain event. Just keeps coming & coming. More intense now here in West Mayo in the last while.

Showers are turning quite a bit heavier now in Castlebar, up at over 15mm of rain now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,174 ✭✭✭pauldry

Over 25mm in parts of the West so far today

Heavier rain arriving in Galway now

Technically 615mm in Lough Eske in 1985 would be the current record.

Wow that is a huge amount of rainfall, I’m hoping Athenry doesn’t break any records this August. If the rainfall keeps up at this pace, the only outcome I can see is flooding..

A spectacularly sh*te day in Galway city today. Gravity defying sideways rain all day, with many more hours to come.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,693 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Sunny spells in Cork City with some clouds around, bit of a breeze but warm in the sun. We are meant to get some rain during the night, but looks like ME were spot on about the warnings (well by removing us anyway)

It will not break the record, but it is still an exceptional amount of rain for the month there.

After initial downpours in Tralee it's been a nice day.

A LEVEL 3 alert for flooding has been issued for Crossmolina due to heavy rainfall and high water levels in the River Deel and a Level 2 alert has been issued for the rest of County Mayo.

The alerts are in place for today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday).

Mayo County Council urge the public to remain vigilant during the duration of the warning and it is important that people within the affected areas are prepared appropriately for the anticipated rainfall totals with 30 – 50 mm expected.

There is a possibility that weather warnings can be extended or deteriorated conditions last longer than anticipated.

Once the weather warning has passed, please remain vigilant and exercise caution as the effects of the weather can last longer.

Mayo County Council will provide updated information on their social media channels where appropriate

Theyl obliterate it by tomorrow midnight.

    Gwan the 300mm

Only 21.8mm to go and tomorrows showery too remember

For Athenry you can effectively say Galway city as theyr so close.....but you cant. As the day I was in Galway City it was 21c and sunny but there was a 5.4mm thunderstorm in Athenry..

You know it's only the record for the station in Athenry and not the national record for August.

No real rain here for the last 8 days, since 22nd August. It's been fairly sunny here for the last while - clouding up a bit now. It's quite breezy too. It reached a high of 20.6C an hour ago. That's over a week now since the high's been less than 20.

Nice evening in north Dublin if a bit breezy

    It's about 20kms away.

Many days you see polar opposite weather. Wet and misty in the city, dry in Athenry or clear sunny day in Salthill/ Galway city and cloudy and dull in Athenry.

A very dry day in the south east. It is amazing how spilt the weather can be on this island.

Launching the Ark now in Galway what a day of rain and it's still lashing down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,238 ✭✭✭Oneiric 3

August 30th 2019, the day of the drizzle.

As I suggest out earlier, only to be attacked, the ECM and Harmonie both grossly overestimated the rainfall totals for today for my town today.

The biggest difference I have noticed between Galway and my 'satellite town' is the wind. Galway has to be the windiest city in Ireland.

Very light rain here near Tralee today with the front staying mostly off the coast and the mountains doing a good job of soaking up much of what made it inland around here.

The front edges closer this evening and will be drawn in across the country tonight. Rain picking up here now 3.8mm.

Should be mostly gone through by 02.00 to 03.00
