Took a stroll out in the autumn sunshine to get the game. Cider is chilling in the fridge, wireless headset is all charged up and my console is waiting for the disc to be installed.

Enjoy the game folks, because I am.

Loving it. Still on Chapter 1 but totally absorbed into this little town with already some tricky decisions to make. Quite proud of winning the jukebox game :) Also the arcade games are quite addictive. Alex is such a well written and acted character, can't wait to get stuck into more.

I'm loving the music in the game.

I'm actually jealous TPP, I would love to just sit down with this and not get up until it's cleared. After the first meeting with Steph, I already can't wait for the dlc. I'm so glad this is getting good recognition from the critics. Deck Nine were written off as a B studio working a fan prequel for LiS but Before the Storm is on par for LiS 1 for me. Pity most comments in social media are writing off the game because you have the 'power of empathy' but that's social media for you i guess.

Took me 2h 40mins to complete the first chapter. My plan is to play a chapter every day.

Deluxe upgrade showing up on the store now for 13quid. Might be only way to play the wavelengths dlc if you've just bought the base version of main game

Yupp, basically 3 euro more than buying the digital deluxe edition but only option for people who bought physical copies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

2 chapters in and loving this so far. The emotions you feel are probably the strongest I can remember from any game, and I include the original LiS in that. Characters are excellent, and the music (as always in this series) brilliantly adds to the atmosphere.

I didn't win the jukebox challenge but I am foosball champion :-)

Just finished chapter 3, Jesus I love this game. Couldn't stop playing since the start of the chapter, had to finish it! One of the main decisions has me truly nervous for what's coming up. Its actually refreshing to see so many 50/50 decisions in the stats at the end. In LiS 2, most people were choosing the same options, this is way more divisive which is a great thing.

Half way through the chapter, i got a green screen and and my PS5 shutdown. Had to repair storage when i rebooted it, thought it was bricked there for a minute. Not being able to finish this was more of a worry than not having a ps5..

As for the stats, one in particular is a bit strange. It's saying my playthrough is at 0% while the other possibility is at 100%. Spoilers below just about that stat..

Riley found out about Eleanor's dementia - 0%. I have no idea how she found out about it yet but it looks like something i did/didn't do affected it. Will probably find out about it soon anyway.

I did help her that day, Jesus what a fantastic use of her powers :( Eleanor even made a point of thanking me multiple times for that day. It's weird because i thought then when i talked to Riley at the bar, i would get an option to spill the beans and i had been thinking what will I do but the option never came up. I must have missed something but i can't Google it in fear of spoilers :).

Actually, I've made it a point to click on absolutely everything i can. I remember giving up on LiS 2. I'd see a Look option and think 'i don't care what his thoughts on that are', i just wanted to get through it but with this, I want to know absolutely everything!

Finished the game a few days ago. Played chapter four and five back to back as it was something I had to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Ah I just read the chapter specific discussion on reddit and same happened to a lot of other people. It looks like she found out because I didn't tell her about Gabe, I didn't want to bring her down any further but maybe I should have reminded her. Theory is that Riley finds out in the background as she brings it up and Eleanor doesn't remember.

Aw I was grinning like an eejit all the way through

Alex & Steph > Max & Chloe. There, I said it!

Just finished, yupp, Magical is indeed the word. Absolutely loved it. Now to wait 2 weeks for Steph's story :)

    Ending chat below..

So i got everyone to side with me except Eleanor. I'm not 100% but i think it was down to not reminding her Gabe had died which may have led to Riley finding out about it on her own and taking that major decision away from you. Didn't like how she didn't show up to the bus at then even though every scene before it, bar the vote, she couldn't have been nicer with me.

Yeah, decided to hit the road with Steph. Felt like I already got the Stay ending just with Gabe giving me the flash forward and it was perfect, time to see the other side. Disappointed, it had nothing to do with the postcard destination, where's my Ocean trip damn it!

Felt really bad when it showed Ryan on the rooftop alone :(

It was a much better game than 2 but 2 handled the long game way better. The account of endings and variations that had was amazing. I really wanted to hear one of Alex's original songs like she had been jotting in her journal.

Anyway, i can't wait to play the DLC in 2 weeks. Alex and Steph are on par with Max and Chloe as the series best characters, didn't think they could ever be matched. Sad it's over now.

So Ep3 done. Have to say, disappointed me a bit, way below the (very high) standards of the first two episodes, in particular the 'game' you are playing for the majority of the episode was very meh, not my cuppa tea at all, I just couldn't wait for it to end.

Having said that it did pick up again in the last 20 mins which sets things up nicely, I hope, for the last 2 eps.

Strange that I have no drive to buy this.

I remember playing the first one and thinking "This is absolutely cringeworthy" after the first episode but at the end I was like "That was absolutely cringeworthy....but I loved it." LiS2 didn't grab me either. I think I was only into Max, Chloe, the Rachel mystery and the brilliant soundtrack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

Done and dusted. Ep4 was brilliant, possibly the best of any LiS game. Couldn't resist diving straight into 5 then, was just so immersed into the story, happy enough with the ending I got too. Some cracking characters in this game, didn't think I'd like Alex that much from the trailers but she's written and played fantasticly well, Steph not far behind, and Jed was well done too. The highlights for me in this series (which was just as evident here in TC) always come when they link the story seamlessly with a banging tune, it really does give that magically feeling of you drifting into the world they've created.

Overall, highly recommend, especially if you've ever played one of the series before so you know the type of gameplay/experience to expect. As said before, i did find ep3 a slow burner (which would stop me putting it on game of year pedestal) but the payoff that followed is well worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Thought ep 3 was one of the best of the whole LiS series. I'm not into LARP or D&D but Life is Stange has managed to completely absorb me into it. Same as Before the Storm, Steph runs a D&D game that is optional to take part in and it's absolutely brilliant. Steph was so good on this, I'm looking forward to my replay of BtS and LiS 1 when the remasters release next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

It's great how different folks can get different things from the episodes, more credit to the devs for that. I found ep3 of LiS2 one of the better ones of that game, but most didn't like it, different strokes for different folks.

I won't bother with the remasters as only played the originals in the past year, but looking forward to Wavelenghts DLC

Fully agree how great it is that they can make a scene or chapter that garners such opposite opinions. HA, ep 3 of LiS 2 is my least favourite of the series :D

I felt LiS 2 went on too long but even though TC had a good length, I could have easily done with another chapter or 2. Felt like the ending could have been fleshed out more as well looking back at it. LiS 2's endings were so incredible, in comparison and set the bar imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Wow....what is my favourite episode of the whole franchise.....You know what, I think it might the Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. That free prequel episode to LiS 2 managed to capture the absolute essence of a LiS game in 1 episode. I remember finding the hidden treasure and putting together the name of his comic villain, just had me speechless.

Also, the way LiS had me rooting for Max and felt Chloe was dragging me down and then BtS completely reversed my feelings on it, again, just incredible stuff.

As for Ep 3 of TC,

I only fought the wolf and end boss, thought it was class how you could avoid the fights. Although, I had found 4 coins to bribe the troll and accidentally bought troll dust not knowing what it did. Was a nice surprise :) In all of this, the acting was just amazing from all the cast. From Ryan playing multiple parts to Alex and Steph flirting with Ethan grinning at the two of them and then reading Steph's emotions before heading out. All that topped off by a scene that just had me staring at the telly wondering what to do and then thinking about how my decision will play out. All top notch stuff.

bought it and downloaded it there . quit out game and back in but can't see how to play it !?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

You get it working Brady? I finished it, about 4 hours long and some nice moments but it was a bit lacking. No big choices, all fluff really. Some really nice throwback to the Original and Before the Storm. Some great use of Pride month and how it was dealt with on calls and memories. Overall, I think if you're interested, just watch a Youtube playthough. I think the only differences are what you choose at the very start, how the 1st game ended for you.

I was hoping for more interactions between her and other characters, hope she returns in future games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭brady12

Played over a hour this eve. Tend to echo everything you just said there . Don't think I could be arsed playing anymore just seems like a waste of my time when Iv loads to play !

Finished LIS:TC last night. Thought it was excellent. A fairly decent story with some great choices throughout, and well thought-out characters. The last episode was really well put together. The performance capture of characters was fantastic too, especially Alex and Steph. The little inflections in their facial performance was incredible.

Some elements dragged a bit, particularly episode 3 which was fun and a bit different, but went a bit overboard.

The entire town shut down to try a cheer up one kid, who is also the only kid in the entire town?

As for the ending and story:

Saw it coming from episode 1 that Jed was a bad guy. Poor writing to make him out to be such a lauded hero and such a good guy to Gabe and Alex that it was obvious he was always going to turn out to be the bad guy. It was handled pretty well though. Most of the town sided against me in the meeting. Took Charlotte's anger which I immediately regretted and even tried to roll back by reloading checkpoint but couldn't, so she sided against me. Then didn't take Pike's fear. Jed's son didn't side with me either, nor did Eleanor. Only Duckie and Steph backed me up. Got Jed to break in the end, but presume he would have anyway as all options seemed to lean that way. Ended up skipping town with Steph, as she wanted to leave even though she said she'd stay.

Finished this tonight after completely avoiding all reviews and coverage before playing it so I had no idea what to expect, other than being a big fan of the previous games in the series. I really enjoyed it. Way better than LIS2 and up there with the original and BTS, I'd find it hard to choose a favourite.

Everyone sided with me in the final meeting other than Eleanor. I wasn't sure what I did to annoy her as I thought I'd been super helpful, but it turns out after googling it was the fact I didn't tell her Gabe had died, which led to her not coming to the funeral and Riley realising she had dementia, which Eleanor then blamed me for. I thought Riley just found out because of the stack of medical letters in the flower shop!

Anyway, aside from that it did feel like I had fewer meaningful choices to really think about compared to previous games. It seems the culmination of all your choices is just who sides with you in that final meeting, and then Jed breaks down anyway so it ultimately doesn't really matter? I went touring with Steph afterwards, which felt like the only reasonable thing to do rather than forcing her to stay in town again, though the game seemed to kind of be pushing me towards staying. The end scene after making that choice was pretty short and inconsequential compared to the picture Gabe painted of what staying in Haven might look like before it.

But overall it was a compelling story, wonderful setting and extremely well realised characters with great writing, acting and animation. Even characters who weren't too central to the plot like Duckie were great, and it was always a pleasure just exploring the town and interacting with everyone. I really enjoyed the LARP section too though I can understand it's not for everyone, and the main plotline with Typhon kept me motivated to keep pushing throughout. And of course the music and tone were absolutely spot on all the way through.

Next up is the Wavelengths DLC!

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭SamStonesArm

Yeah it was defitnely about as enjoyable as 1 and BTS , I didn't enjoy 2 at all , it was a chore to finish it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭quokula

Wavelengths DLC was disappointing to be honest. Felt like there was a lot of pointless busywork and filler which is something that I never felt with the main game. It had its moments with some fresh perspectives on the consequences of LIS1 choices and Steph is a great character but I think it was a bit of a wasted opportunity on the whole.

Played chapter 1 last night, already enjoying more than LIS 2 or Tell Me Why. Bit of a shocker there at the end. Wow.

Up to chapter 4 now, certainly feels shorter than the other games but it doesn't feel like a bad thing. The story seems pretty straight forward for now but it's kept me engaged and wanting to play it unlike some of the other games which had me rolling my eyes and thinking ffs get on with it a few times. The larp and festival were great and better than a lot of stuff in previous games and the characters are likable enough.

Honestly for now I think Deck Nine have made a better Life is Strange game than Don't Nod.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Before the Storm was definitely better than LiS 2, Deck Nine were a great fit for the franchise.

Was not expecting a Violent Femmes cover from Alex and Steph. Wow TUNE!!!!

Just rolled credits on chapter 5. Found this so much better than life is Strange 2 where I spent more time trying to make sure the younger brother doesn't go psycho

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

I know the series is a bit cringey but the LARP section in chapter 3 is taking me days to get through as I can only take so much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

That was a real marmite chapter. Dome loved it but I really hated it tbh, but loved the rest of the game so well worth powering through

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,270 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah I enjoyed that chapter more just because it was something a bit different and a bit of variety, even though the implementation and writing of it was pretty awful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,906 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I have no interest in actual LARP but chapter 3 was one of my favourite gaming moments of that year. They nailed the cheesiness, the kids story and above all else, Alex and Steph's interaction her shop, which only some people would have seen depending on choices.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

The LARP thing I just couldn't get past the guy doing wolf noises and how stiff it all felt. The premise of it reminded me of Fable 3 when you get shrunk down into essentially a D&D game.

Finished this tonight, the last 2 Chapters felt short though I believe they were aiming for a more compact game. How it all gets resolved just felt very sudden as what seemed insurmountable early on ends up being resolved at a pub in front of 10 people but I just didn't like the curveball that you get at the end of Chapter 4 after going back to the mine & the stuff with her Dad was too convenient to throw in late on like that. It was better than LIS Season 2 just barely but I expected more for what was a full priced game at launch. Still haven't topped Season 1 imo even though Before the Storm came closest. The rewind mechanic is easily the best power and the main ingredients of the series as a whole still can be traced back to Arcadia Bay.

Did anyone else cry near the end of chapter 4?
