Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Quick question about injuries

    I tore my rotator cuff around 2 years ago and still havin trouble with it , I’m finally going back to the gym today to see if it will hold out lifting light weight.

    But as I’m going up there I also have a partial tear on my ACL (waiting to be called to hospital to see if I need surgery), are leg extension / leg curl machines of any benefit to me or should I steer clear? My knee isn’t too bad most of the time but still hurts at times, I cant really run etc. Thanks In advance

    There are so many factors at play you would need someone to assess you in person and tell you what you can/should do and what you should avoid. A good physio would be your starting point.

    Thanks alf, I’ve been to a good few different physios but unfortunately I don’t think any of them were much good

    I've had something that has proven to be complex and it could very easily have been missed (and was) because it's a relatively rare issue and took MRIs and sports medicine specialist to get to the bottom of.

    Whereabouts are you based?

    Tore my one playing a match last aug.Was in hospital, physio etc.

    Think it took 5 months plus to heal. Can lift exact same again as before tear now. Was slow and steady buildup. No pain anymore. I suppose everyones different.

    Santry probably have a good program. Their knee surgeon there is or was a BJJ competitor and knows a few things about ligament tears. In general they seem to have a progressive approach, read about their back injury rehab lately and was impressed. Mainly strength based. If it were me I would try there.

    Layman view, but prehab and rehab of most (all?) knee ligament injuries are about a quite aggressive volume of single leg work that progresses in load. Use tools as needed to recover ROM at the beginning. In some cases you might be better off with the right strength coach than a physio. The ligament is buggered but the muscles around the knee can save the day.

    Whereabouts are you based?

    Ya I got an mri on the knee myself, was going to do the shoulder aswel only didn’t realise I’d be charged twice for it.

    I’m based in Kerry not far from Tralee

    I had a good chuckle at that. You’re not being charged twice - you’re being charged once for each joint.
