I got the non-LTE one on Friday going to crack in open today when I get a chance.

    Went for non LTE as
    • There’s no infrastructure and doesn’t look like there will be for some time
    • I wouldn’t be prepared to pay an extra €5 or €10 a month for the use I would get from that service (if it did become available)
    • The only time my watch and phone are apart are in the gym and I can be uncontactable for that time
    • I took a call on the Watch before and in my opinion I looked like a complete knob speaking into my watch so I wouldn’t be keen on getting into a habbit of it. Although I do admit it would be handy for emails and other notifications.

LTE cant even make calls here yet on the majority of networks, a use case for it is at least 18mo off and even then companion SIMs won't be cheap.

I used to go running after work but I'd still be on call. Because of that I'd had to lug a phone around. With such a watch I wouldn't have to.
I don't get why so many people on here doesn't get the whole cellular watch..is it a lack of technology understanding or something? Ever since the first apple watch rumoured people were looking for a cellular version.

The AR one is a future development.
Why on earth would you pair a watch to a phone to extend AR to glasses when either the watch alone will be powerful or the glasses themselves would be.

I do get it, I am not stupid but I don't think this is a good implementation of it.

An LTE watch that can only last an hour is not good enough.

Also, not getting a signal all the time is not good enough.

Just got dispatch notification .... Eeeeeeeeeek !!! *happy dance*

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Cloudio9

I’m a little confused with the silent, dnd and theatre modes. Which mode should I use if I want haptic for notifications?
If I want no notifications and no lift to wake up in bed which mode is that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    * silent will give you haptics but not ding if connected to wrist (my watch is constantly in silent mode, should be default imo).
    * DND will not give you haptics or dings if connected to the wrist.
    * Theatre will give you haptics but will not turn on the display with wrist movement, you have to tap the screen for it to turn on, perfect for say... the theatre.

First day with Series 3 (Non LTE) it’s much faster than the Series 0 I had previously and the battery seems to be vastly improved.

Up at 06:15 and just turned it off with 75% remaining

Year after first 48 hours with mine I had 45% battery.

Caved in and ordered the non Lte one which is arriving today.
Still miffed over it as I had promised myself the steel version this time around but hey it’s a new toy :)
Will hold off on the steel version until the carrriers support it which will probably be series 4/5 at that stage.

Thinking of doing the same. I might get the Nike one for series 3 then when lte comes to Ireland go stainless or ceramic.

Going non lte this time round will allow them to work on battery and perhaps size of the watch so that by the time I get one I reap the benefits of waiting.

My series 0 is practically unusable on watchOS 4. Putting it down with 20% battery at night whereas it was easily 50% on watchOS 3.

Hopefully the display will be improved as well. On the steel and ceramic since the glass is sapphire the display is not as clear as the sports watch which uses ion x glass. One of the mates had a steel v2 and I had the Nike one and mine was clearer and whites were white wheareas they were dulller yellow looking on the steel version. You would never notice it unless using at the watches side by side but I would always get a rise out of him when askin him about his yellow watch :)
It’s just a feature of sapphire as the light has thicker glass to shine through hence some distortion.
It’s only became noticeable with digital displays.

Is yours the original single core watch? Would explain the slowness. They were brutal slow at launch anyway.

Yup. Just checked I have enough air miles to convert to €420 on a prepaid card. that’s decided it for me, series 3 for me.

Ah I was going to get a physical card so that I could use it in compub and buy a band too. I don't think Apple allows you to split a basket over two payment methods.

I'm in no huge rush though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,452 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

Just as well, I’m not sure if compub are selling it yet? At least not on their website.
Also amazon for the bands :) way cheaper and just as good.

Did everyone get Apple Care +? Is it worth it?

About to pick up space grey

How much are they around? Is there much variation between shops?

    really depends on the model.

42mm sport series 3 is roughly €410~, like with all apple products - especially new ones - there's very little price variation to be had anywhere.

Absolutely , a fall of a foot or more will break the glass on the sport version.
You cannot get it repaired anywhere so it has to go back to Apple who send you out another one at nearly the cost of a new one. For me getting the watch without AppleCare is life crazy.

I think it’s 60 for the phone anyway, probably same for the watch but i’d check to make sure
60 days in the US but again check for Ireland.

Watch arrived yesterday... absolutely love it... got the space grey compared to the gold last time and its CLASS !!

Rang up and got AppleCare today after reading here and agreeing it would be crazy not to follow it up with aftercare due to lack of places to fix it.

Quick question all, how did you find Siri on it and did you set it up English (Ireland) for voice and does it work ok.

Siri has been excellent on the watch since day 1. I had the original version and used to transcribe emails on my way home from work etc and it worked perfectly.
Mine is set to Ireland and works perfectly.

    Series 3 38mm

Ordered the steel link bracelet (the 3rd party verison) and this charger which does phone/watch and also your airpods on the dock.

Only problem with Irish Siri is the accent. Seriously it’s woeful. You also miss out on some features like Siri translation. Also the quality of the voice isn’t as good. Sounds much more like a robot than the new iOS 11 U.S. Siri

I havent gotten my Airpods yet but that mount for the Airpods seems to show a recess for something other than a Lightening Cable. Of course i am likely wrong. The stand looks great though!:):)

It’s a recess that allows you to thread your own lightning cables through. None of these stands - or very few of them - come with integrated cars.

I understand what you are saying but my point is that it doesnt seem that any lightening cable would fit in that recess as shown in the pictures. It just doesnt look right for a lightening cable:confused::confused:

Its possible that there is some adaptor that you plug the cable into that's just not shown on the advert. Hopefully :)

    AW Series 3 space grey.

Anyone recommend a screen protector. Those who have had the watch for a while. Would you recommend a full watch cover or just a screen protector?

    Anyone got something like this:
Apple Watch 2 Case, [2 Pcs] Feskin Ultra Slim Lightweight Hard iPhone Watch Cases with Full Screen Protector Cover for iWatch Series 2 (42mm) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XPQVYVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bGq0zb8WA4FXA

Would prefer just a screen protector but if the watch doesn't scratch easily I'm happy to just use a screen protector.

Don’t put one on. They’re awful on phones but needed if you have kids the watch doesn’t get scuffed as much as you’d think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭Cloudio9

The cellular version could potentially make a great kids watch in the future at the right price for parents who want to keep in contact but don’t want kids to have a smartphone.

Hi can anybody tell me when I get a notification I don’t get image just circle with lines going through it. I have reset the watch from new and back up and still get no image when I get the notification.

Please see attached image this is just the small image taken from a screen shot but when the first notification comes from bbc news or Twitter it’s just a bigger circle with the lines going through it.
