Surprised so many seem to think Kyrgios will be some form of test for Nadal, I see Nadal winning comfortably. He'll drop a set at worst, imo. Kyrgios will obviously be fired up for the match, but so will Nadal. And anyway, all that's coming out from Kyrgios' press conferences recently is how little he's training, staying out till 4am, playing Fifa till 3am etc. If he's not even doing the basics right then surely he doesn't stand a chance against an athlete of Nadal's calibre? I mean he looked quite winded against Thompson at times today. A very rare moment for me, but I'm pretty sure I'll be rooting for Nadal on Thursday.

Agreed. The courts this year are really slow which hurts Nick and obviously helps Rafa. I don't think you can turn on a switch just because his opponent is Rafa.

What type of match do you expect?

To be fair I find some of the moaning about servebots at Wimbledon a little boring, not as if the serve is something any mug can master and the very few one dimensional servebots rarely make it to the last week and ultimately win **** all.

I know someone will say "Isner last year" but his game was pretty good last year and it took him years to figure out grass.

Apart from the servebotting, it's basically that we probably won't see a break of serve all match, and will only be decided by who can serve the best. Not that I mind it, just will be funny and a bit interesting to watch.

    Maybe not.:)

Isner v Raonic was a five setter at the US open last year and we had zero tie breaks.

    Winner probably plays Anderson.:D

Wouldn't Gauff just be out of school? Rikova should just remain patient and turn it into a marathon match and test her overall fitness.

It's fine to root against Nick, sport needs it's villains, but - I really don't understand a lot of people saying he's bad for the game. I personally love watching him play and having a go at the likes of Nadal/Djokovic. Makes the sport much more interesting and after Federer retires he's probably the guy I'll root for most, even if he can be an idiot the odd time.

I've defended Nick pretty much from the outset, but I think I'm through with him now. How can anyone get invested in him when he freely admits to tanking matches? He can post as many 'deep', 'insightful' Instagram/blog posts as he likes, but it's clearly all talk with no intention of changing. One of the most striking things about him is how he sees himself, referring to himself as "just a kid" on Instagram recently. I mean, he's not old or anything, but he is a 24 year old man now, probably time to grow up a little.

I also find it amazing how he basically completely separated himself from Bernard Tomic, went out of his way to state how different they are, yet his career trajectory and lack of potential fulfilment have been almost the exact same.

Was also reading his responses to journalists after his match against Thompson. He was just being straight up rude and unpleasant mostly. I know journalists can ask a lot of stupid/repetitive questions, but most of the time they're simply trying to do their job. I'm sure there are lots of other players they'd prefer to interview. And through all of this Kyrgios then has the audacity to play the victim, constantly complaining about how the press treat him and comparing his treatment to other players. I mean, does he really lack that much self-awareness? I've rooted for him so hard the last few years, but he can't keep explaining away his behaviour. The reality is, he's just a straight-up c*nt.

Preparation wise - completely depends on the person. We all react to alcohol differently, have different sleeping patterns etc

From an optics point of view not great if he was a top player with large sponsorship deals maybe and a devoted fanbase, but he could not give two fks

I understand but when Nadal is playing you into big Rally's on a grass surface waiting for you to ue he's in for a quick session

Few on here seem to be dismissing Kyrgios today. I couldn't disagree more. I know he was poor vs. Thompson in Rd.1, and his general play has been underwhelming coming into Wimbledon but, imo, he is not like any other player in that his form doesn't matter a jot. Most players need to play themselves into form, build up momentum, confidence, etc. Kyrgios is mercurial, his game is based on how he's feeling in the moment, and he can turn it on like the flick of a switch when he wants to. And apart from Djokovic, he wants to beat no player more than Nadal.

If this match was a later round in Wimbledon, I would probably side with Nadal, but with him still finding his feet on grass (and the fact that there is actual grass on the courts right now :pac:), I think Kyrgios will cause the upset. In 4 or 5.

    This.

People seem to be forgetting Nadals' almost endless list of struggles with big hitters in week one Wimbledon.

Last year he had a good campaign - so that may be clouding people's memories a bit - but he played no power player early on, and the courts were essentially a clay court all year last year with the extreme heat

Even the years he won it/made finals he had some very close calls, and early 5 setters. He is not at all comfortable on fresh grass - relative to other surfaces of course. A straight sets win for Nadal at SW19 is almost a rarity

I'd imagine he'll come through, but if NK is on there's every chance of an upset imo

It all depends on the Kyrgios that turns up really. I am hoping the one that comes out is one that wants to send a message to say how good they are. Kyrgios is well capable and has done it of beating the top players. If he actually put in the effort off the court he would be a top player.

And if Isner had a great return game he would no. 1. Kyrgios is not capable of putting in the work and keeping his concentration up to be a top player.

    Super!

How do they prove it though, I suppose they have to highlight a few particular incidents and the fact he's a repeat offender also?

Like he could very well claim he was just unwell on the day, so I'd imagine the fact he's done this repeatedly would not help his case

Bertens gone. Isner from a set down, to a set up to exploding and beaten 3 2

Bertens not gone yet on my screen anyway. In third set and looks like she should win comfortably from here.

I'm predicting Nadal to win in 4. Kyrgios to win a tight first, Nadal to win a tight-ish second, Nadal to run away with the third and Kyrgios to tank the fourth.

Juvan serving like a boss here

Yeah Nadal doesn't look in the mood for tolerating anything other than a quick victory.

If there's an early break for Nadal in the second, Kyrgios will throw the head up completely.

Nadal didn't like that improvised serve from Kyrgios one bit

Womens is beginning to look clearly like another barty party to me, serena doing nothing so far to suggest anyone can stop barty before the final anyway. Pliskova from other half the danger from what i've seen so far.

Cmon Nick! Getting into Rafa's head now :)

This is one player who won't bow down, and let you bend the rules as you please by taking half a day over each serve Rafa!

    Game on
